  1. Downloading now - on my bargain priced internet it should be ready to play in the morning Thanks Obsidian!
  2. Agreed I really hope we get the save (export) /load functions for all the characters we create.
  3. am gonna need see actual implementation, but please note that your suggestion were not the way the ie games worked. even in games such as dragon age that attempted to balance 2h and dual-wielding more fairly ended up working in favor o' dual wield mostly 'cause o' the functional stacking o' magical equipment. many weapons in other games is capable o' being wielded one or 2h... such as spears. admittedly, am not recollecting if spears can be equipped 1h in PoE. nevertheless, such stuff is another possible balancing issue particularly where player crafting comes into play. the ability to stack and choose how to stack 2x the magic equipment is a significant advantage. *shrug* ours is simply guesswork, but we do recognize that frequent dual-wield ends up being advantageous 'cause o' load out benefits. an inherent 2h benefit to compensate does not strike us as unreasonable approach. HA! Good Fun! Spears can indeed be equipped one handed in POE - one of the character choices starts with spear and dagger with certain background choice - barbarian maybe.
  4. Still slogging though the options myself but letting the fighter draw the mob while the cleric keeps the party alive and having the others hang back a bit - rogue with bow/hobble (have no clue if hobble is doing anything), mage with occasional "safe" spell in combat or opening salvo, Ranger marking then shooting while animal attacks same foe is standard. Was extremely disappointed to see my entire party take damage from that stamina drain spell the mage has - nothing in the description led me to think it was an AOE.
  5. Does Sensuki get experience for his successful sneaking attempt? I don't think the quest has been completed yet but when it is he will...
  6. Some (smart) weapons already come with two damage types and are somehow able to discern which type will hurt which enemy more...
  7. Ummm did you mean to post this someplace else? Not seeing how it relates to the topic of this thread?
  8. There's supposed to be a hidden staff at the Inn - so far I've had perception up to about 14 and not found it so maybe it doesn't work that way - it seems like it should tho
  9. Yes I'm sure that's the issue a lot of folks have with the concept the trouble is I think it's an unrealistic expectation - first of all every Tom **** and Gwendolyn that played these games have different ideas of what worked and what didn't and secondly just because a mechanic worked back then in the Infinity Engine doesn't mean it's your only option today. Really? I can't use the short version of the name Richard? In that case you find out the aspects that most people liked and keep those instead of guessing them or just ignoring them because you think you know better. Thinking you know better failed for D&D 4e and made Wizards to farm information from their players to get best from all previous editions and create 5e. J.E. Sawyer should have done same. Of course you do because as great team of accomplished developers you should scrap all your own ideas and read tweets & posts on the internet to decide how to make your game. Take some polls have a contest or two..... If you actually understood my post the D&D 4e team was also experienced people who managed to **** up their own brand by thinking they know better than people they are making it for. #1 - according to whom? #2 - LOL
  10. I tried attaching a crash file to a post in the Bug forums a couple days ago and always got the "you are not permitted to attach this sort of file" message (or something similar) - left a post there about it but so far no replies

  12. Perhaps even less time if they used characters that the devs have been playing (which is what the teams were in IWD2 - each team was from a different dev)
  13. Ok color me tech challenged but after a crash I got some error info on finding the crash folder containing a file named error and one named report and a suggestion to send it to the devs - However when attempting to attach it I get the notice I am not permitted to upload this kind of file... Suggestions?

  15. Superficial or not they ARE similarities and the point is that we were never promised a clone of the IE games where every feature you loved about game X Y or Z will be present perfectly in it's glorious '90s form and maybe just maybe we should wait until we've seen a little more than 2 weeks of the first beta build before deciding how much IE "feel" the end result will have or not have. The IE games represent probably 60-75% of my total gameplay since BG first appeared and I have played with all of them just this year so don't count me in the IE games sucked category but don't count me in the "any game thats not a total clone of IE can't be a spiritual successor" either. Then again I'm 65 not 16 or 26 or even 36 and I might just look at things a little differently. (Oh and I didn't get the whole "bucket" reference)
  16. Why is it that almost every advocate for combat xp is an irritating zealot on the issue? You're not more of an IE game fan for preferring a certain XP reward system so stop trying to monopolise the right to define what is and what isn't a spritual succesor to the Infinity Engine games. PoE isn't a spiritual successor because the core mechanics of the games that we loved are not there. That is something that happens when the lead designer hates the game he is supposed to be making a spiritual successor to. Obsidian promised us an Infinity Engine experience (Baldur's Gate to be specific) and what we got was an RPG with a casualized character system, always-on super stealth mode, quest only XP where you must do the bidding of villagers to get XP, pointless and unrewarding combat, lack of choice (all choices matter equally), lackluster music, no exploration, the itemization appears to be lame, HP bloat and so on. It probably wouldn't be so bad if it was actually good, but it isn't. But at least the writing is good. lol BTW we are advocating for ways to get XP other than by doing the bidding of villagers, for example by exploring or engaging in combat. You know, like in the IE games. Really? You mean other than the isometric view, the companions, the tactical group combat and engaging storyline that reacts to your decisions/actions? Which game are you talking about? Arcanum? Darklands? Fallout? You have to be more specific and describe the core mechanics of the game. OK - 1) the isometric view like all the IE games 2) the companions (with minds of their own) like BG series and PST 3), the tactical group combat like all the IE games 4) the engaging storyline that reacts to your decisions/actions Like BG2 (with what should be even more reactivity we've been told) 5) the class system thats very similar to the D&D classes of all the IE games 6) the weapons, armor, and other basic equipment that are similar to those in the IE games 7) the quest and task system which is similar to the IE games the artwork that is similar to the IE games 9) the leveling system which is similar to the IE games 10) The ability to create a full party of your own choosing with the adventurers guild similar to the IWD series. 11) Great music similar to that of the IE games 12) A forum where some people can't seem to do anything but complain - like the IE games...
  17. Because of Hype Machine? EA can afford loads more of hype. And PoE is a more niche game too. Avoiding it, no matter how much you want to pretend that DA3 is NOT an RPG, can increase the attention of potential buyers that otherwise would be "distracted". Call me crazy but the idea of linking a lack of arrows in PoE to devs worrying about DA:I seems exactly like comparing eggnog to motor oil...
  18. Aw come on man what about Hopalong and Gene and Roy?
  19. Ahh, so now even the advocates of this borked design are also admitting that this game doesn't resemble the amazing IE games. Good, very good. We thought we had backed the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate! Really? You mean other than the isometric view, the companions, the tactical group combat and engaging storyline that reacts to your decisions/actions?
  20. Based on what? It's well known that 85.4% of statistics are made up on the spot ... ^This is supported by a 92% correlation with forum debate technique ... Edit: And 9 out of 10 cats prefer Druids Mark Twain noted there are three kinds of lies - lies, damned lies and statistics! nuff said...
  21. A related question would be what actually happens if you dual wield weapons with different reaches, where you are only close enough to hit the enemy with one weapon? One of the barbarian options starts you off with spear and dagger!
  22. Unfortunately you can't access your inventory in combat in PE *dies inside* Can you change weapon sets via hot key?
  23. one o' our most common requests has been for a more dynamic character record sheet and/or inventory screen. being able to see valuable numerical differences depending on armour and/or weapon load-outs strikes us as something that would be added to a crpg by default, but is conspicuously absent from PoE. HA! Good Fun! Well I am hoping they just have not YET provided this as they want to make sure the numbers are all nailed down into their final form before doing so.
  24. Personally what I got from the devs from Kickstarter to present was not that Eternity was going to be a clone of the best of the IE games - it was that it was going to be an isometric view RPG with numerous classes & companions featuring tactical group combat with an engaging story that reacts to your decisions/actions. Nothing I have seen thus far indicates to me that this is not what we are getting.
