Which would mean that the firetooth wouldn't be an awesome reward anymore, because it wouldn't be as special anymore. It would just be another bow that doesn't require any arrows just like the rest of the bows in the game. How do you know? Maybe different bows can have different elemental effects. You can still have a unique fire crossbow but what makes an item desirable shouldnt be it subverting poor game design. Having bows with arrows and (more or less powerful) bows without arrows is poor game design? Wat. xD Anyway, I know because I played BG2 and that game has the best itemization to date. You don't need different types of bows, just different types of arrows. Yet both games in the BG series did in fact have different bows along with crossbows slings and darts or are we to ignore that part of the best itemization to date?

They were also able to be recovered (provided you won the battle) but if they did that then we would have to have the fletcher ability to repair them as well...alas nothing difficult is ever easy...

I too enjoy the inventory "mini game" probably because I enjoy playing at a more relaxed pace - I'm in no big hurry to get to the next major thingamabob - oooh look mushrooms - and so I'm finding the lack of ammo unsettling as well - I suspect adding several types of firearms may have had something to do with this decision now we need bullets and powder and other whatchamajigs to make them work properly and the whole ammo construction job became just too cumbersome and the resources needed for it could be utilized better elsewhere.

How exactly do these different options function in PoE? It doesn't appear to me that any of the stats shown in the inventory screen change at all regardless of whether you equip a two hander, one hander, dual weild or even a ranged weapon. Are there differences in accuracy, speed, number of attacks or anything else outside of the damage stats of the weapon itself?

It rewards your accomplishments because all those activites, killing monsters, lockpicking locks, and so forth are done so you can solve a quest. The only way to win this or any similar game is by solving quests. Except that here in the Beta, there's an entire map (the what's-it-called Gorge) filled with monsters, and lock picking, scripted events and a dungeon. But since there's no quest tied to that map, there's no XP to be had in it. Or because of it. Or in reference to it. none at all. I wonder if the reason that area exists like that in the beta is because the quest related to that map is tied to the main storyline or something else they don't want to spoil? I would not expect to find a map not tied to any experience giving event in the full game (given the manner in which they plan to award experience).

Icewind Dale portraits for Pillars of Eternity
wanderon replied to Tartantyco's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Go into the portrait folder ctrl-A to select all ctrl-X to cut Go into steam PoE females folder ctrl-V to paste ? If you haven't extracted them yet - to extract - if the folders are named 'male' and 'female' like in the archive, just extract to the folder one level higher - it should then merge the folders So extract to: Public Beta/PillarsofEternity_Data/data/art/gui/portraits/player ? Thanks - this worked for me altho it appears that just having the folder itself (with the portraits inside) in the proper male or female folder works also - (the BG portraits are working fine from the folder within the folder) - -
Icewind Dale portraits for Pillars of Eternity
wanderon replied to Tartantyco's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Ok I seem to be technically challenged here - I can't seem to figure out how to extract the contents of the Bg or Iwd female file into the steam female file - it puts the folder itself in there instead of extracting the contents of the folder - do I have to move each portrait individually ?? -
So then the advantage would be you could set them up for different situations and swap one for the other based on who/what you were fighting? So if I used a couple of each level in one then switched to the other I would still have used a couple from each level but could have different spells available to choose?
-
So does having more than one grimoire mean you can have more spells available per day and/or encounter than you would with just your "main" ? That would be worth some extra money (at least until they fix the respawning loot bug )
-
It appears you should be able to add spells to your grimoire from scrolls (if you right click on existing spells you get a screen saying you already have this spell) but I can't figure out the mechanics of how this is done???

Characters disappearing from party
wanderon replied to Douglas H's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
I had similar issue today cleric (and portrait) disappears at end of lion battle (may have died) - explored further without her - transitioned back to town where cleric and mage are now "stuck together" cleric portrait still missing and cleric is not picked up by gathering party - managed to separate them by clicking individually and moving and after entering tavern noticed mage portrait was replaced by cleric - mage still standing around outside. (no save available - sorry) -
Fill the note sheet with what exactly? the same phrase? different phrases? (because it allows you to do either) fill just one sheet (A) or as many as you wish (A B C D etc) do you get to choose between sheets in combat once they are filled or do they play in order A B C etc
-
I have yet to figure out how this is supposed to work - I can clickity click phrases on to the "music sheet" but have no clue what I am doing with it - do I need x number of phrases to make one work is it the same phrase 3 times or different phrases the (music staffs) seem to go on endlessly if I keep clicking the next (lettered A B C etc) and I can apparently put as many phrases in whatever order I please on each. Totally lost here...

Update #84: Welcome to the Backer Beta
wanderon replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Some excerpts from the manual or basic FAQs about how things function in the game in a sticky someplace would be very cool! Just played for a hour or so and had some issues figuring out how the chanters stuff was used in battle - going to have to go looking for the posts that explain the armor and weapon stats and that sort of thing to figure out exactly what I'm doing but at first glance this is exactly what I was hoping for (and exactly what I expected!) -

Backer Beta: Coming August 18th
wanderon replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
The real question is will I finish my current PST run before the Beta comes out and if not do I care -
Awesome - I'd say there is an 80% chance I'll be playing one of these two classes first so great to see some of the ways they will work!

What does "mature" mean, anyway?
wanderon replied to Endrosz's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
So do I actually have to BE mature to experience the matureness of the game or can I fake it? (sorry I am an old man with poor memory and I had to post something to see what my Order of Obsidian title was... -

Update #56: Paladins and Wild Orlans
wanderon replied to Darren Monahan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Great update - I would love to play a "Have Gun Will Travel" style paladin - sadly without the printing press I'm guessing there is no chance for the great business card with the chess piece knight logo to hand out to perspective clients... Like the Orlans as well - awesome work - please carry on!- 200 replies

Update #47: Odds and Ends
wanderon replied to Darren Monahan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Once again I am totally impressed with the latest update - especially the opening panel showcasing the option of choices - awesome! I do have one issue tho - it's beginning to look like I'm going to have some back problems to deal with from sitting on the edge of my seat until this game is released!- 131 replies
