I don't understand this dichotomy. You think Skyrim fans are the type of gamers who are by definition fond of objective XP? Skyrim has fans? Who knew?

I'm going to ask again is anyone actually getting their wizards butt shot off at the start of combat due to this issue with casting speed vs ranged attack speed? I know I have not ever seen this in any of my adventures in the BB...???
-
Pretty sure this is already on the list - just offering some anecdotal info for conversations sake...
-
Yes had a similar problem with a single character in that particular area I think this is a known issue with BB 301 - was able to finish that area with a new group by carefully avoiding that specific spot. (save reload doesn't solve this either for me once someone is "caught" they are apparently stuck there)

You may want to factor in phases of the moon and sunspots as well Ineth - you know leave no stone uncovered...

I know - they could call them the Lion KIng! -
Just like they do with any sort of statistics - they are really meaningless out of context yet people mistakenly consider them as facts in spite of the fact that they can often be used to argue either side of an argument equally well when manipulated.

Quoth the Raven "Nevermore" -
I'm not sure where this argument about ranged attacks being faster than casting times and how it apparently takes out casters before they can get any protections up is coming from. I have not seen this occur in the BB at all. Is this actually happening to people or is it just conjecture that it might happen/could happen due to the difference in attack/casting timing? My caster types are typically not in the front line and generally are the last ones to be targeted by enemies in the BB at least until they do some significant damage to some enemy that is not otherwise engaged.

Actually the problem with most forum polls IS the skewiness of the OP - have you seen the crap polls that have been posted in the general forums? this one is actually light years beyond most of the pack it's only real flaw being the lack of an "other" option As for statistics my old buddy Mark Twain handled that nicely when he said " There's three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics"

The quests/lore/writing in the beta - likes and dislikes

I agree that it feels like some things should go farther - The bard mentions the hidden staff but has nothing to say about it if you find it and speak again - you learn things about the missing daughter but it doesn't open any additional conversation with the father in spite of the fact he opens every conversation at that point with the line "have you learned anything yet" (or something along those lines) Hopefully the gnomes in the dungeons below OE are busy writing more stuff fo add before release... -
You don't see the difference between getting paid when you show up at the job instead of getting paid when the job is done? The loot you find won't just be given to you when you walk to a certain spot. You don't get Quest XP just for activating a quest. The issue isn't simply player finding optimal paths, but the nature of Exploration XP in conjunction with it. I assure you, the devs have been thinking about the replayability of the game since the start. It's not some additional burden on their plate. Adding new XP sources would be an additional burden, though You get quest experience for discovering information during a quest how is that different from exploration experience - why is it a bad thing to reward the player as he finds his way through the quest or world gathering information and/or items and/or NPCs etc it's all part of the adventure and doing so makes it possible to level up as you go instead of having to wait for the big payoff after the quest is completed. If you discover a chest or stash the loot is indeed given to you when you get to that spot why isn't finding and recognizing some special area or person or ruin or whatever just as worthy of XP? I'm sure the devs are thinking about replayability but I doubt they are trying to design the game in such a manner that players that have completed it are unable to use the meta game information that they gained by that playthrough.

Depends who does the hanging... And who gets hung (and why) -
Which is precisely what's wrong with 90% of polls posted on boards like this - they become skewed to the opinions of the person posting the poll - there should always be some form of "other" option - even in the case of a simple yes or no vote there is room for a maybe. I voted for 4 out of the 7 or 8 options.. I think many of the stuff up there is stupid (Lock XP?).. but not as stupid as letting people who have no opinion voice an opinion.. it's just white noise.. Go make a fanboy thread somewhere else where you and your waifu pillow of J.E. Sawyer sip tea and talk about how Obsidian can do no wrong. This thread is for big boys who have an opinion on the game and want to discuss it. Or I can remain here and continue to inject my opinions into the debate whether you agree they are valid or not -
-
Not seeing what the difference is here whether exploring gets XP or loot of some kind or both the same thing happens doesn't it? Once you know where the good stuff is you are going to create that optimal route anyway and the same goes for the "easy XP" vs the "toughest XP" - or getting this companion vs that companion - Frankly I think the devs have enough on their plate balancing the game for first time players without worrying about what people may decide to do on later run throughs - I'm just hoping there are going to be enough meaningful choices the game reacts to that will fuel the desire to replay again and again.

And by doing so (rebalancing to accomodate prebuffing advantages) would more or less force you to prebuff...I too would vote no on that...
-
Hey just like congress - what could possibly go wrong?
-
Ditto...
-
I think if you need the sort of boosts that pre-buffing gives you it should be available in some other manner - enchantment - better gear - whatever - it shouldn't require spellcasters to be buff-bots that start every day casting long term buffs on the entire party. If you DON'T need them to progress through the game then it becomes an easy button

Or maybe check out upcoming game projects if you're interested in them. Ahh, the power of "or." Unless you only have one in the water... ... I'm missing something here, o_o... *be's blond* One oar in the water, a couple bubbles off plum, a sandwich or two short of a picnic, a couple bricks short of a load....

It's a way to reward the use of a non-combat skill - would be my guess... -
I would disagree - why shouldn't it matter to OE that in addition to the number of people who wished to choose which items they felt were justified there was another group of people that really didn't care about that - those people are expressing an opinion as well - (I believe this whole side discussion came about because someone mentioned that there was no option offered for don't know don't care or "other") That is in fact my point that in the interest of including as many backers as possible there should have been such a choice and that it has some significance.
-
The number of people who cared enough to vote but didn't care enough about the outcome is important, statistically speaking. While we're at it, so is the number of people who refused to take the poll at all (not that we can expect to get that number from a straw poll). This exactly... And I did vote... for everything except combat...
-
Not so much - if you don't vote you don't exist in the poll - not caring where the experience comes from and/or whether it's justified or not is still a valid answer to the polls question and a valid opinion to add to the conversation whether or not the poll designer chooses to add it - accept it - or poke fun at it.
