  1. On a side note (but regarding the RP aspect of playing a priest). The gods are fabricated. And the Watcher is well aware about it. Has conversations w. them on a regular basis, corpotate CEO stand-up meeting style. Where come the Watcher-priest spells from? Could one really preserve his belief in a deity as a higher power under such circumstences? Could strong belief in a mundane person or organisation grant spells?
  2. And, well, all D&D rules variants are TT games, ment to be played w. a GM to mediate things. Inbalance of classes included. Not so much in a computer game.
  3. Those, I think, are the perils of creating RPG rules from scratch. Wording, comprehensive descriptions, overcomlicated solutions, all that stuff that gets better with time spent polishing.
  4. Early-mid casters suck, now that's new! Never has it happened before in any game ever! =PTell that to the BG1 wolf! Once the ungodly power of "sleep" has been unleashed the darts would do the talking!!!
  5. On your part, I say. It's an optional battle, and it's called "mega-boss" for a reason. If you could beat it with any setup, anytime, no effort, that would be a trash mob, not a mega-boss, no?

Never has it happened before in any game ever! =P Nope, casters are not just weak early in the game like it happens in dnd games until they get some good spells. They are useless throughout most of the game because of accuracy. I haven't had a worse time using magic in any game so far - this one takes the cake. They can be powerful only late in the game, but even then the most popular wiz build for example, is the melee wizard. BG/ToEE/IWD/P:K/NWN - casters were a blast to play even if they were weak early on. After a few levels magic felt impactful, saving throws in dnd games are actually more forgiving than the miss/graze fest here and the spell effects were powerful enough to justify their limited use. Not to mention their meh defense buffs that are easily expended and don't stack, the possibility of a CC lasting for less than a round and their huge casting times (even with the talent). Spells shouldn't go through the same attack resolution in the first place. There should be a differentiation from normal attacks. Here, spells feel like cheap parlor tricks or colorful aoe attacks which are limited and when you expend them all you are left with is a squishy, useless character. And it's not like I haven't experienced the system fully. I've finished PoE 1 and 2 both with a full party and solo characters casters included and I've tested most spells. Not arguing the *feelings*, they are a persons objective reallity and don't need justification (one either likes or dislikes something, no point for discussion), but from a technical point of view, casters in PoE are beast from start till end. Only times they struggle to meaningfully contribute are endurance run battles like in SSS or the mega bosses. But that's true for other classes w. limited recources too.

  8. Mine favorite is the tavern in Port Maje. The bartender greets you with a drink, tells the story about the proudest moment in his life... and when I stole the kraken eye I felt so bad about that! Never touched the thing in next playthroughs. =)

  10. The implementation of a TB mode would require an overhaul equal to designing a whole new game. So, no, just a test. Or there is a whole design/prog/UI team at Obs that has nothing better to do.
  11. So, let's say one wanted to bring to Eora the most painful DoT's ever, what would work best: a SC Ancient Druid, all about PL stacking, or an Ancient Druid/Helwalker multiclass with caped Might and over 30 Intellect?
  12. Or some way to upgrade the abilities you've gathered, after hitting level cap. Put all this excess exp to some use.

I think an interesting thing about the slavers in this game is that there is a legal regime for slavery; iiuc outside of the Deadfire slavery is legal, and so the legal loophole that slavers and some factions in the Deadfire use is to only trade in slaves obtained from outside the Deadfire. and I might be wrong, but it's a little ambiguous whether or not the crookspur-aligned power interest think they are actually breaking this legal regime (Wahaki allege so, but aspects of both VTC and Principi think they the slavers are being legal or at least parts of the VTC/Principi are very willing to believe that their wares are procured legally). Meanwhile in games like Fallout 2/3/NV, slavery is illegal or at least nonlegal (e.g. evil anarchists oppressing people because no one can stop them). It might make one want to more carefully press the point to involved parties that something that is legal is not necessary the same thing as that thing being ethical. Now that's heavyweight. Than, there is the idea that free trade brings peace. And progress. And those basterds are kinda just trading totally legal assets.
  14. Those are a gem. My grandpa laughs his head off over them. =) Translations by talented people sometimes do wonders, that's true.
  15. Come to think of it, there is no prominent antagonist in the game. No Big Bad Guy. No one is evil for the sake of being evil. The slavers and fapyrs get kicked in the head 'till they are totally dead in my playthroughs, but I guess they have their understandable motives too... No one is really nice, but I could sympathize with all the major factions. And the god of collateral damage. That should be one of his titles. And I think that's great!

  18. yes, strangulation is a well known and common martial combat technique. men and women with unnaturally large and strong hands has been known to forgo a sword or spear in favor o' bare hands as they maneuver 'bout the battlefield waiting for the moment they can pounce on a bare-necked opponent and slowly squeeze the life outta 'em. insert eye-roll am knowing the current implementation has munchkiny appeal, but people is being funny. sure, is hundreds o' ridiculous things in deadfire and this is hardly a gamebreaker, but glowing wolverine claws as a stand-in for a garotte or strangulation is ridiculous on multiple levels. a defense based on anything other than rule o' kewl is silly. is wolverine inspired cestus summoned weapons as a stand-in combat weapon for strangulation anything other than eye-roll worthy? then again, the size o' the deadfire morningstars is similar comical. so yeah, is loads o' funreal (intentional spelling) stuff in deadfire and the wolverine claws might be just another example. fine. even so, am thinking sceptre makes a whole lot more sense. simple as that. sheesh. HA! Good Fun! IRL reach is king. Nothing comical 'bout two handed morningstars for the infantry. Come to think of it – what happened to the cavalry of Eora? No mentions whatsoever. Hmm. An Orlan wolf-rider would be a thing.
  19. He is "from Rivia" – "iz Rivii", the land by itself is "Rivia". But why the change in the German translation? Wael knows. Edit: "Lyria i *Rivia* to dwa królestwa leżące w Dol Angra połączone unią personalną." – Lyria and Rivia are two kingdoms lying in Dol Angra connected by a personal union. I'm not making it up to fool with ya phone. =)

  21. So, my dead-drunk nalpazka/troubadour named Osbourne was rocking a Junk called "Black Sabbath". Then there's been a series of "Watchers Blitz" for the faster ships of my other Watchers. The one that made it to the end of the game, also a monk, got a "Shangri-La" Junk.
