No immunities
InfiniteEternity replied to Cronstintein's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
My biggest issue with combat is, that (atleast on path of the damned) that 90% of the fights with a challenge its designed around standing in bottle necks and door ways. Why? That is nor fun, heroic or exciting in the long run. And this also favours a ranged party setup..which I dont like either. -
Can you respec?
InfiniteEternity replied to PBJam's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Really? I find that doubtful, since it's fairly well-established in CRPG circles that respeccing is the devil. Oh you mean 1 out of 1000 who are the vocal minority "because lore forbids it"? -
Yup 100% agree. if you want to have the slightes chance taking out the Adra Dragon on POTD or any other tough fight Gaze of the Adragan makes everything a joke. The moment i got the spell on my wizard I lost a part of the respect for the game mechanics. Same goes for abillities like priest Salvation of Time, prone Seal spamming and wizards' AOE Sleep/Slumber (another aoe prone). Obsidian needs to nerf certain abillities in the game and same time HGUELY buff all the ones people never use to bring out the fun and variety in the gameplay mechanics or it will get boring real fast.

Salvation Of Time was already out of my mind the moment I read the spell description. I completed poe on potD a few days ago and I used it once. Why would it be a fun thing to cast a spell to...extend your buffs? Some times I swear devs arent playing their own game lol. I agree with all the rest people had to say in this thread though, some really good reflections

Pathfinding, scouting mode, no threat mechanics (only proximity/damage), lack of wizard summoning spells were my biggeste issues...everything else in the game was a beautiful ride and it got WAY WAY WAY closer to Baldur's Gate epic sensation than I had ever expected...if you let yourself be drawn in. Everything Urquhart touches gets my attention.

The problem with the threat system is that - there is none. Its based on melee Engagement ( I like that idea dont get me wrong) but there should be more to tanking that just scripts turning around/ retargetting and proximity based approaching. I havent mentioned the spell system and the stealth in my review either. They really could use some help too. Its a bit sad most of the fights boil down to fireball/Toxic Cloud spamming and maybe an occasional mind control. The stealth system...ugh...not my cup of tea to spam it to find hidden objects/traps/important quest items tbh.

PROs: - Great classes overall. good character creation /level up (customization isnt tho) - The story in most places felt as if you wanted to hear more in most scenarios. - Combat is VERY fun and its both deep and challenging in some places (talking potD here only tho) - Many quality of life improvements have been made vs BG which I really liked (but also set backs) - Gear and items are mostly well made but some stats on weapons and balance is way off. During my playthrough I found ONE good robe for my casters vs +20 melee weapons/armors for my fighter/rogue/barb. The Disposition System is ok...atleast its more fair being Evil in PoE compared to BG where being Evil was pure HARDCORE mode and not worth it at all. And poes system is more diverse although there are still conversations I remember which didnt make sense. CONs: - The stat system is very bad and nonsensical. Might gives ranged +damage% Wut? Intelligence gives +melee aoe% Wut? - The threat system is non existent. I know its the way the old Infinity Engine works but I hate it. ATLEAST give sword&board Fighters a 1/2 per rest aoe taunt or just 2 encounter single Taunts or...atleast some threat producing aura. Ive had a few times where I got really frustreted because scripted mobs suddenly turns around after being tanked SOLELY by the tank and the script goes after lowest health partymember and theres no way stopping it. Poor design. - Most dungeons are way too short and the puzzles are a joke. - The campfire Ressource system needs to go and we need free resting in ALL places instead with a chance of being waylayed, like in Baldurs Gate. -The backer souls and the tombstones over the world made me feel like the world was less plausible and...not *real* ...way too excessive. I wouldve given it 9 but its an 8 overall. I must say I enjoyed PoE through my play and Id love to come back in a while making a full Good Aligned party when balance/bugs/designs patches are implemented. Thanks Obsidian!
