  1. Who is their new one? I heard Rick Rubin was going to produce the new one, but there's rumours about Rick Rubin producing everything these days. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd produce a new Beethoven. I'm curious about Rob Trucan'tspellhislastnameio's bassing.
  2. I can't decide, but it's either EElS, Modest Mouse or Pearl Jam.
  3. Where did this Trivium craze all of a sudden come from? Left and right I'm hearing people claiming Trivium as the saviors of heavy metal and whatnot. Listening to the leaked version of Godsmack's new record. The good news is, they don't sound *exactly* like a bad Alice in Chains ripoff, now they sometimes sound like a bad rip off Tool(Livin' In Sin) and Metallica(Mama) too! Man, I keep hoping Godsmack might actually write music.
  4. Fade To Black is exceptional but I think Disposable Heroes is their best song. I point you towards the past tense in my sentences, 'wasn't' and 'was'. It is irrelevant to bring Rob into this because he hasn't done anything yet, the producer played bass on St. Anger.
  5. Out of the choices given, either Zep or Sabbath. I think you'd like Deadsy. Also, for the person who asked what Orgy is like, that depends on what album, mostly. Candyass is a little too industrial for me, and Punk Static Paranoia too nu-metal, but I really enjoy their album Vapour Transmission. It's a bit like a cross between industrial and just plain fun rock, with lots of electronics. I can feel a bit of David Bowie inspiration in that one.
  6. Great album. no matter Truenuetral says. What are you talking about? I love At War With The Mystics. Modest Mouse - Cowboy Dan Just switched to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Gimme Some Salt
  7. I disagree. I think songs like One, Fade To Black, Eye Of The Beholder, Disposable Heroes(personally, my favourite Metallica song) and For Whom The Bell Tolls display a lot more maturity than songs like Fuel, Better Than You, Ain't My Bitch and The Struggle Within (which I have dubbed 'It Cuts Itself'). During their trash metal period, with the exception of Kill 'Em All which was mostly about... well, killing 'em all, they wrote some of the deepest, most personal songs. From the Black Album and forward, a lot of them became incredibly trivial. Songs like The Unforgiven II that have no value are way too common now, Sad But True and Slither (which might as well be called Enter Sandman Too) make it seem like they can't think of new things to write songs about. That doesn't mean to most Metallica isn't still better than what other bands have to offer, but compared to their earlier work? There's just no contest. Also, Cliff, goddammit. Cliff brought so much special stuff to early Metallica while Newsted is just another bassist. Newsted wasn't terrible like some would have you believe, he was a good bassist, but Cliff was exceptionally great. Besides that, the guitar in post Black Album is too much rhythm. Kirk is horribly underused. Especially on St. Anger, where there are no solos whatsoever. It's too bad that Cliff had to die and they never worked up the guts to tell Ulrich that HE.CAN'T.DRUM. Otherwise, they'd probably be just as epic as they used to be. Off the Metallica subject - If I hear some **** scream Freebird at another show, I'm going to throw a hissy fit and then shoot people at my school and blame this message board. The media will eat it up.
  8. I liked it all up until Voldemort. He was... underwhelming, to say the least. I never say the least, though, and as such I will reveal that I was hoping for the nurse to come along and take him back to the cancer ward where all the other kids on chemotherapy were resting. No offense meant to people with or relatives/friends with cancer, but that is seriously the first thought I came up with. I saw The Brothers Grimm. Not as good as I expected, but still pretty good compared to non-Terry Gilliam movies.
  9. Master of Puppets and One are before The Black Album, jackass. And yes, all of those are better than Enter Sandman, Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, etc. will someone please explain to me how a band that hardly ever gets any air time is a sellout? they sell albums but get next to no air time. why? quality. they are a touring band that sell records based on word of mouth. it is easy to overrate excellence. and if Metallica is overrated, so be it. No air time. Right, because I don't have the videos for Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters and even the recent Frantic memorized. You have absolutely no idea about Metallica. They 'sold out' (god, I hate that term, but it is absolute applicable here) not because they got more air time, but because every album they made after ...And Justice For All is more bad grunge ripoff than well-written trash metal epics. Save St. Anger, which is n
  10. Yeah it does. Someone told me The Mayfield Four were better than Alter Bridge because Myles didn't have such a terrible backing band. Apparently they're just as bad. And you're very clever, pointing out how ironic this is. I had never, ever thought of the mere possibility that it was ironic. ... If you still don't get it, it is, in fact, meant to be ironic. Pearl Jam - Release
  11. Godsmack is underrated, but Metallica is overrated at best. At least, from the Black Album and on, anyway.
  12. Sufjan Stevens is really overrated. When he can make one good album with really good material he opts to make five instead, spreading it too thin. That doesn't mean he isn't a good songwriter, though. Feel the illinoise is a great album! Besides, we're talking about art, your judgment is purely subjective. Gold Mine Gutted - Brighteyes Did I say it wasn't? That's the most annoying thing anyone can say. "That's just your opinion", well, no ****, because it was me who said it. The Mayfield Four - Suckerpunch
  13. It's about as funny as Maddox (speaking of overrated). He's just saying "yeah, this is bad, so here's some swear words". Where's the funny? EDIT: Also, didn't Chris Cornell say he would only join the remaining members of RATM if they weren't political? Oh yeah, he DID. Do your research, ****er, at least Maddox had that much decency.
  14. Disturbed, KoRn and Orgy are actually some of my guilty pleasures. I know they mostly suck, but I like them anyway. I guess I just like a lot of stuff. Got some classical and J-pop scattered across the hard drive, and my playlist just switched from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to Opeth. I like where Disturbed is going, actually. Bands like Disturbed and Slipknot are making the first steps back towards good songwriting. They're still not actually doing it, but they're trying, at least. Complete with solos and everything. Bad solos, but solos nonetheless. People love Slayer and Kerry King can't ****ing solo for **** either, so big deal.
  15. Yeah, but never as blatantly as Nirvana did it. Only their first album sounded remotely like any other grunge band. Save maybe The Melvins, but only because Cobain robbed them too. Although really, there is no such thing as grunge. Every grunge band can easily be classified into another genre, and probably fit in there better. The only factor that sets them apart is because they all came from the Seattle scene. I'd hold Nirvana responsible for killing guitar music if the Hair Metal scene hadn't done it first. Sonic Youth - Shadow of a Doubt
  16. He did it on the same day too. April 5th. Except, I don't like Kurt Cobain at all, and Nirvana is horribly misclassified as grunge. I mean, listen to Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, and all the other grunge bands. They're mostly rock and metal influenced. On the other side, Nirvana was more punk-oriented, right down to ripping punk artists like The Pixies off. Also, when I started playing guitar, my dislike for Nirvana grew incredibly quickly in short time, because basic scale excercises were more difficult than all their songs. Why people say Kurt Cobain is a good guitarist is beyond me.
  17. Sufjan Stevens is really overrated. When he can make one good album with really good material he opts to make five instead, spreading it too thin. That doesn't mean he isn't a good songwriter, though. Currently listening to: Temple Of The Dog - Reach Down Rest In Peace, Andrew Wood. And for that matter, Rest In Peace, Layne Staley, since I just finished listening to Mad Season's Above. Heroin is both the best and worst thing that ever happened to grunge. Without it, Alice In Chains' 'Dirt' would never have been made. Without it, Alice In Chains would still be complete with Layne Staley.
  18. Pearl Jam - World Wide Suicide. I like their new single. It's catchy.
  19. It didn't bother me this year. Then again, I was suffering from insomnia.
  20. Oh, so that's a fact now? Have we actually found an actual, tangible soul? Or are you just saying that because mom and dad indoctrinated it in you from youth? Bah. Electrons and chemicals.
  21. Except, the damn thing is poisoned. Tough luck.
  22. Pearl Jam - Footsteps Still a loyal Pearl Jam fan. I can't wait for their self-titled release.
  23. Do snuff movies count? No, of course I'm not serious.
  24. I don't quite remember which band, but there was some power or hair metal band which had an album cover that was pretty much kiddy porn because they wanted to prove their masculinity or something. No, even if I did remember, I wouldn't post it. It's completely tasteless. And would probably get me banned.
