  1. I'm not too far into the game-about 15 hrs or so (not had anytime to play this week), but I don't understand why everyone is saying the Stronghold is immersion breaking and not needed. To me, the more the merrier. I have completed about 3-4 upgrades and I think it's a neat little "side-quest" that plays out differently than everything else in the game. Plus, you eventually get bounties from the upgrades. I just don't really understand why the Stronghold is disliked so much. It also has a huge dungeon underneath it! And a talking stone throne. I love it personally.
  2. So my laptop cooler arrived yesterday. I played for about 2 hours and it made an amazing difference! I haven't checked temps but the laptop was MUCH cooler. I guess for now, this is making a difference and my mind is at ease now.
  3. I don't make it a practice to kill NPC's, but knowing some of the Backers give loot is massive incentive. So, theoretically, I can read their Soul and the neat story they have, then murder them, and possibly create a new story in the process.... Most excellent.
  4. For years I have loved the ambient sounds in the Infinity Engine games. I love walking into a tavern and hearing the background talk along with some tavern tune playing. But my favorite has to be the "organic" sounds in the outside environments. Pillars of Eternity has EXCELLENT ambient sounds. My favorite so far is the rainfall and thunder that is heard off in the distance. I literally sat there for a half hour listening to the storm and reading some lore books I had collected. The ambient sounds are so relaxing! Is there anyway to extract these sounds and put them on a CD or my cell phone? I have the musical score (I lover soundtracks from video games), but I would really love to have the ambient sounds collected as well.
  5. So, I don't really know that much about V-Sync in all honesty. From what I've read if I turn it on, there could possibly be more screen tearing (which is not a big deal to me in a game like this) and your Fraps take a hit? I still haven't checked fraps yet, but I know from seeing the characters run around it could be better. If I turn V-Sync back on, how much will fraps be hit? Sheesh, I really wish Obisdian put more options in the graphics. Still don't understand why there is no Low/High quality options for graphics...
  6. So, I have ordered a laptop cooler from Amazon. Should be arriving tomorrow. I really hope this game somehow gets optimized a little better....
  7. So I ran the msaa 0 and I don't really know if that did much of anything. Also, I kept forgetting to enter it again whenever I entered a new location, so it's not the best solution I guess. Thanks to the QA Tester for bringing this to the team's attention. Tonight I played for about 1 1/2 hrs, stopped the game and ate dinner to let the laptop cool down, then played some more. I don't know, maybe I'm over analyzing this whole thing. I really need to check my CPU temp and check what FPS I'm pulling. I am so enthralled with the game I keep getting side tracked!
  8. I will try this when I get home. Been reading up on this suggestion today. Not sure how to perform your second idea. Was hoping there was a way to go in to PoE files and set AA=0 in a notepad doc or such?
  9. Oh gosh. This is what I'm playing as. I have not encountered this problem yet, but I also haven't died. Hope this gets fixed pronto!
  10. Forgive me that I dont remember the exact specs on my laptop (I'm currently at work), but PoE is making my laptop run surprisingly HOT. What I believe I have off top of my head: HP Pavilion dv7 2011 model Intel core i5 2.67ghz 8gb ram ATI Radeon 6370? (I forget the exact model) Windows 7 64-bit I was playing through Steam last night and the game was really bogging down my laptop which really surprised me. The weird thing is, I don't see any Graphics options to dumb down like most games have i.e. Changing from High to Low settings etc, etc. I tried changing screen resolution from 1600x900 to the other choices and this did nothing for performance. My friend was playing the game on his Mac laptop (I don't know model, but it's only a few years old) and he was having the same issue. I've played a lot of Diablo 3 on my laptop and that game makes it run hot, but there is a LOT more going on graphically in that game (or so I believe). I turned off V-Sync in the options, but as of right now, I don't know what else to do to get a smoother gameplay experience and not burn out my laptop. I'm just really surprised by this since I remember reading this game would be playable on XP 32-bit??? I ran "Can You Run It" before purchasing and I passed with flying colors. That sight is usually pretty accurate for games I play. Any one have any suggestions? Maybe Obisdian needs to optimize the game better with a future patch?
  11. I fall somewhere in between. RPG's in genreal 10-15 years ago had little to no voice acting. I remember FF10 having lots of voice acting and I loved it. The problem though is, as others said, you may get a bad voice actor who completely ruins a well written charcter. In the case of PoE there are two things I believe that led to less voice acted lines: 1) Kickstarter and limited budget. Good voice actors are not cheap. 2) This game is a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games. As far as voice acting goes, it feels the same as those games to me. But the biggest thing is that this is supposed to be a D&D experience played out on the PC. Read line dialogue and get lost in it. Become the characters. Make up crazy voices. Completely nerd out. You'll be better for it.
  12. Pause and or "S" for Slow mode. For some reason Slow Mode was set to default everytime battle started on my game. Was driving me crazy...
  13. I have the same sentiments as those that posted above. I'm only about 4 hours in and you guys have already surpassed my expectations. I really hope this game does GREAT, it helps Obsidian stabalize as a company, and you guys continue bringing games like this to us! Keep up the great work guys!
  14. Lol. Well, I plan on making my day very productive at work-since it will seem to make time pass faster. Plus, I will be avoiding the internets after 12 noon. Do not want to be spoiled.
  15. The fact that this miniature space pig is of the giant variety just goes to show you that Obsidian has gone "big" with everything they've done in this game! Being of the "giant" variety also shows why the pre-order was so important. But the BEST news is when my female Elf Ranger is resting at a campfire and the pangs of hunger set in I will now have two options- a giant miniature space pig AND a boar. Don't let the word "companion" fool you. That boar friend serves a purpose. Between the two I expect some fine cuts of bacon. Heck, there may even be enough for some sausage patties...
  16. Pffft. I thought ALL nerdy RPG gamers ate Cheetos and Mountain Dew. Helloooooooo!
  17. It seems like all the RPG's I've played for the past 7-8 years include Romance. It's actually going to be resfreshing NOT to worry about Romance in this game. Just let me talk to people normally, slay monsters, and loot glorious treasure. Oh, and talk to Dragons. BTW, do Dragons talk in this world??? I sure hope so....
  18. It's so bad that I woke up at 3am last night and could not sleep. I eventually got on the iPad and checked this forum for 1 1/2 hours until 4:30am. I am currently suffering from the lack of sleep. I need to be careful and go to bed early tonight. Need to be able to stay up late tomorrow night!!!
  19. I'm hoping my female Elf Ranger I roll turns some heads. I could use the extra dialogue options. I'm a lover-not a fighter.
  20. There's a stooooooooorm coming. Cause I'm not wearing hockey paaaaaaaaaaads!
  21. This makes me glad I did not take work off on Thursday. Living in the USA Eastern Time zone this game isn't releasing until 2pm in the afternoon. Weird. Another strike made by the "Left Coast." Oh well, at least work will help keep my mind off the game until I get home.
  22. I love this post. Great stuff. I'm not a backer. Not because I didn't want to, but because-somehow-I didn't hear about this game until last November. I have since pre-ordered the Champion Edition on Steam and ordered the Strat Guide and Lore book from Amazon. I've been watching beta backer videos daily for months on end wishing I could experience the beta first hand. I've been checking Steam everyday since I pre-ordered to see if it was ready to pre-download . I got home tonight at 10:30 and smiled when the download started. But, like everyone else here, I can't play the game until it's released. I can understand why longtime backers would be frustrated that some "newbie" like myself came in two years later and already has the game on my machine. But guess what? We are all here for one reason-because we love games like this. I've spent the better part of a decade or so playing Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale games. I never thought we would ever see this type of game made again. So, we all need to step back and just appreciate what Obsidian is doing here. In les than 48 hrs we are all going to be playing a brand spanking new cRPG!!!
