Influences
You have such good taste in everything else, that I will let the Laker-fan thing slide. Also you mentioned Zahn trilogy. You do realize Zahn ended up writing six books so far? Did you read Vision of the Future, Specter of the Past, or Survivor's Quest?

OT from "Q's to Devs"
Better yet, the Phantom booth at E3 had signs up saying "Lies, Deceit, Chicanery, etc" just like the Penny Arcade comic strip. The Phantom Guys obviously were very tongue in cheek and could take a joke well.

Please Help
Okay, this is way off topic. My last system blew up due to poor electrical wiring in my house. It was built in the 20's. Because I'm broke, I went with an ASUS AV7X8-X board. It got really good reviews, I normally really like ASUS products, and I got it for under $60. I threw in a new Athlon-XP Barton 2500, 512mb of Kingston, memory, a new Western Digial caviar 120gig, and a Radeon 9000. The system cost me pennies, but functions pretty well. The problem is that the card won't operate in AGP mode. Catalyst said AGP acceleration isn't available. DirectDiag says the same thing. I've upgraded the BIOS, checked all the BIOS settings, got the latest drivers from ATI, updated DirectX, and got the latest updates from MicroShaft. I ever reinstalled everything from scratch. I contacted ASUS, and they never got back to me. ATI said to do all the steps listed above, but never gave me any support after that. I don't know if my board is bad, the card is bad, or if there is some hidden setting somewhere to turn on AGP support. The board supposedly supports up to AGP 8x, and the card is only AGP 4x. I will likely build a new system in 3-6 months, but I'd like to fix the problem. Any suggestions that don't involve buying new hardward tomorrow, or napalm? (The next hardware purchase is a new case, 450w power supply, custom fans, and then a new 52x QuietDrive ASUS combo drive - so motherboard and video card must wait) Also, for the record, despite this problem, I still stand by ASUS and ATI because I used to build systems for a living, and I've always had great performance out of their parts.

Influences
A question to the Obsidian crew (here after referred to as My Home-skillets, Inc): In designing KOTOR:TSL, what would list as major influences? What about game design in general? Which game made you decide that you had to do this for a living?
-
How many titles are in development then?
I heard that Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers are making a comeback. Is this an IP that Obsidian is pursuing?

What to do when a person...
This is painful to say as a former Marine, rasied on the belief that the proper application of napalm can solve most of life's problems. Flame Thrower = Good for GTA Flame Thrower = Bad for online communties

Romance in KoTOR 2
I've heard supposed spoliers regarding this issue. I don't know if they're true, but I won't speculate as to Padme's fate because of that. I've tried to remain spoiler free for Episode 3.

How about a "sith lords Wednesday"
So far, we've had screenshots, concept art, and videos without revealing the plot. A few dev diaries can't hurt.

What do you think the twist(s) will be in KOTOR II
Next week, on Days of Our Jedi.... You discover that Carth knocked up Bastilla, and Revan kills everyone involved, except you discover that it was Carth's evil twin brother, and not Carth. Revan is torn between desire for revenge, and sorrow for accidentally killing Carth. Carth haters pester Revan, and egg him on more, so he decides to retreat to the far corner of the Galaxy.

Romance in KoTOR 2
Yep. I think Lucas was trying to lay that ground-work in Episode 2. And his secret wedding will no doubt be an issue with the Jedi Council, and further create a rift that pushes him to become Darth Vader.

Romance in KoTOR 2
I always though Titanic was mediocre. I really believe that when something comes around that gathers a lot of interest, people feel the need to jump on a worshipful, or hateful bandwagon. Really horrible films don't win 7 academy awards. They sometimes win a few, but not 7.

What to do when a person...
Option D. Even if you want to expose the person for being a flamer, don't respond in kind. That's just a friendly suggestion.

Romance in KoTOR 2
I always thought it was ridiculous that the Jedi order should forbid love. I understand forbidding being ruled by passion, but without love, what is life all about? Anakin gives a small speech to that extent in AoTC. Also, the Jedi Order could be very different 4000 years before ANH.

The Ideal Sith
"But we make kolto, not bacta!" "Darth Ender demands bacta, or you all die!" "Okay, how about we give you the kolto and call it bacta since Darth Ender doesn't seem too bright today?"

What do you think the twist(s) will be in KOTOR II
Also consider, that you start the game with the Ebon Hawk, Revan's ship. Is it pure coincidence that the ship was ditched, or did Revan leave it for you?

T3 should describe the first game
Booop? That's just wrong!

Romance in KoTOR 2
Oooh, a love triangle is a good idea. I like...I like.

Getting away from the Dark Thug concept of evil...
To the dev's, I offer a small suggestion. Research the political climate of Florence during Machiavelli's time, especially the Da Medici family. Good stuff.

NBA Playoffs!
That fan was a scapegoat. The ump ruled that the fan didn't interfere, and while it remains a debateable call, I agree. Weren't the Cubs up 3 games to 1? If not, at least 3 games to 2. In game 6, they gave up a huge lead (something like 6 runs if I recall). Then they pissed away Game 7. The Cubs had plenty of opportunity to win, and they didn't. As far as Laker fans being the best, they rioted in the streets when they won a championship, attacking police and starting fires. They act like elitist snobs. Tickets are snatched up by celebrities, and the rich. Games should be accessible to the real fans. I've lived all over the country. The greatest fans I've seen in any sport, are the Nebraska Cornhusker fans. They have sold out every single game for 40 years, through good teams and bad teams. I was at a Nebraska game in 1997 when the great Nebraska program started to slip. Nebraska had the longest home winning streak going (something like 29-30 games), and the second longest in the history of NCAA football (though to be fair, they were a way off from Miami's record of like 52 straight home games). The Texas Longhorns came to Lincoln, and Ricky Williams racked up 150 yards against a great rush defense. The coach (Solich) put in a Freshman quartback in the fourth quarter (Eric Crouch) and called four passing plays in a row with the game on the line, despite not having any receivers worth throwing to. After four incompletions, the streak was over. Did fans boo or storm out of the gate? No. Ricky Williams was named the player of the game, and the fans in Lincoln gave an opposing player a standing ovation. Those are the best fans in any sport. The Lakers are a team of primadonnas. I lived in OC, and read the LA paper every day. All I'd hear about is Kobe bitching about Shaq, and Shaq bitiching about Kobe. Then Payton comes in to add to the whine-fest. And we're supposed to respect the "heroics" of Kobe rushing from his rape hearings to a game. That's real heroism. Also, where the heck are the Lakers in the regular season? With the talent they've got, not getting a 1 or 2 seed each season is a disgrace. The Lakers tank the first half of the season because they don't care. Kobe intentionally tanked a game by refusing to shoot, just because he wanted to throw a temper tantrum about the offense focusing through him. People pay good money to go the games. Imagine shelling out a $200 for you and a buddy to see a game in person finally, only to see your team bicker and pout rather than play. Then they say to the press that all they want to do is win. How about competing all season then, or listening to your coach, or playing like a team? Oh, yeah. The Lakers forget those concepts. They play in LA after all. Phil Jackson is the only reason I could see rooting for the Lakers, but the egos in LA keep questioning him rather than play for him. Rooting for the Lakers is like sending a love letter to the IRS. Except, the IRS may actually care, and the Lakers could give too s***s about their fans.

To quote Demolition Man, "exactamundo".

Getting away from the Dark Thug concept of evil...
Mass-murder, sex and blood catch people's eyes. Don't expect swoop racing to get turned into BMXXX, nor to have limbs flying. However, Obsidian could add pyschological torture, and manipulation to the game without raising the game to a mature rating. That's what I'm hoping for.

Romance in KoTOR 2
I agree. Planescape had multiple options to explore romance with, and they were handled well. Many of the stories were tragic in nature. I dug 'em.

Getting away from the Dark Thug concept of evil...
We don't get a whole lot of feedback, but we are getting feedback from the devs. They have been upfront, and let us know what they are willing to disclose, and what they aren't. I think the dev team does care. However, they game still has to get approval from LucasArts on some level, and I wager that means shooting for a Teen rating.

What do you think the twist(s) will be in KOTOR II
I'm not saying that I personally believe the Sith would bring stability. I'm thinking it would be an interesting turn if Revan showed up to dissaude you in your quest, as the voice of a disillusioned former pawn. Futhermore, I think the player should have to consider the rammifications of constant killing in whatever they supposedly believe in. What is it really accomplishing? Is the galaxy better for it? These are questions that should be asked in the game, but it should still be up to the player to answer them. KOTOR forced you to pretty much go along a strictly preset path of being Dudley Do-Right, or a being a childish thug.
