Still plugging away at Defiance. Like with many sandbox-style games, I always tend to forget to actually do the main missions. I've been playing for about a week now, but I'm still relatively early into the second chapter of the main storyline. I've been spending my time doing Arkfalls and the various side missions and challenges.

I don't think this view is accurate. If gaming journalists were irrelevant why would Publishers ensure that certain gaming review websites and there gaming correspondents have early access to games and interviews? The reality is that there are still many people that place credibility in what gaming journalists say and what they think so they still play an important function I think that's more due to the free advertising/exposure those gaming sites give the games, rather than because the actual "journalism" aspect is seen as necessary or respected.

I never finished that game for that very reason. If I recall, aside from the stupidity of in general, I believe it also negated the entire way my character was built (I think I did a stealth build, which meant every single skill my character had built up was useless at that point).

Is that the one where you're shooting arrows from some sort of catapult/gun turret at a flying dragon?

Maybe it's just the novelty of the game, or maybe it's because there's nothing else I'm interested in playing at the moment, but Defiance is actually quite addicting ... when the server isn't being a pain in the butt. The lag seems to have, largely, been fixed, but the issue with major lag/losing connection during a major Arkfall remains. It's to the point where I entirely avoid them when I see them on the map.

My mom still won't attempt to turn on a computer by herself. She insists she's scared she might press the wrong button and "blow it up". Apparently the PCs in my home growing up had a dual purpose as an explosive devise.

30 years old? He was still in diapers when Obsidian first began a decade ago.

Defiance servers down again ... and whenever they're not down, they lag tremendously.

As more is learned..

This is just my own personal opinion, but what sold me wasn't necessarily the belief they'd be making BG circa 2014 or whatever, but they'd be taking whatever good stuff they'd need from those types of games and carry forward what works for their vision for PE. If that meant some features/items not being the same as the IE games, so be it. So as a backer, I'm not concerned because I have faith in whatever they end up delivering. -
They should have given the kid some weird, Hollywood-esque name to really stir the pot. Screw tradition.

I'm not sure if Defiance "level scales" or not. And if it does, I'm not sure whose level it scales to when there's a whole bunch of human controlled characters fighting the same enemy. Sometimes it's a cakewalk where I'm killing enemies after two or three shots, and sometimes it's like they're bullet sponges and I'm barely putting a dent in them after emptying my entire magazine.

Two more clan invites while playing Defiance. Do these players get some sort of benefit by having a lot of people in their clan? One guy was at something like 2000 EGO and invited me, despite the fact I was (at the time) barely over 200 EGO. So it's not like he was inviting me for my experience/strength of my character.

I haven't used replaceable batteries in my controller since I first got my 360 a few years ago. I have a rechargeable one, where I can play either cordless if it's fully charged, or play with the cord plugged in while it's re-charging. I can't even fathom playing any other way.

Obsidian should do Fallout: New Detroit, where the city is in a state of chaos due to crime and bankruptcy and ... wait, that's already been done.

I don't mind if romance is a part of the game, just as long as it's an optional part. And one that doesn't require you to go through with in order to "max out" your abilities somehow. If romance is going to be involved, I'd actually like to see there potentially be negative benefits as well. For example, maybe at some point you have to choose between saving said loved one and allowing the enemy to get away, or finishing off the enemy at the potential cost of your loved one's life. As for having children, no thank you.

Defiance is still badly bugged when it comes to the Arkfalls. Every single time there's one where you have to destroy a bunch of them before finally facing a final "boss", the game freezes up for me. It'll boot me, and then when I return to the game, the Arkfall is complete and I get the rewards (though not many kills due to the whole freezing up thing). This happens every single time. Also, some players are just morons. I was shot and had to be revived, but instead of doing that the other player just ran past me and tried to kill the enemy on his own. I ended up dying and he ended up stealing the kill.
-
Yeah I've noticed that too. Why can't people just let me solo in peace? It'll usually be after one massive group destroys one of those Arkfall things. Then I'll get a random message from one person, and have no real idea who it was or how good they were. And the message disappears right away before I get much of a chance to do a bit of checking up on them.
-
People keep sending me clan requests and group requests, but I'm still trying to figure out how to see who these random folks are.

The few times I can actually log on to the Defiance servers, the game itself is ... nice. I'm still trying to get the hang of it since the actual manual is lacking, and so I'm learning on the fly.

Decided to play some BL2 since Defiance is being stupid. It's weird. That one boss in Borderlands 2, Mad Mike or something, is a lot tougher than the "end boss" for that level. Largely because he shoots a bazooka weapon that seems to kill me if it even hits me once. Phaselocking enemies is cool and all, but I miss my autogun for my commando.

Hmm ... two days in a row I've been unable to play Defiance because of the timing out issue with the server. What an awesome game.
-
I know. My comment was more in a general sense, and less about this specific game. With specific regards to this game, they need to do a better job of having reliable servers if they're going to run this style of game. It's ridiculous that their servers are this bad (I did a quick Google search and found this seems to be a common issue).
-
Well that was a mistake. Now I can't even play Defiance because I keep getting timed out from the servers. I can't even log on to play the friggin' game. This is exhibit A about how mandatory internet connections are stupid for games in general. I'd like to be able to play the game I bought without relying on any sort of connectivity issues impeding me from doing so.
