Book Request: Books that are like ...
GhostofAnakin replied to GhostofAnakin's topic in Way Off-Topic
I decided to get the first book in the Monster Hunter series. We'll see how it goes. -
So who will be the next Russian superstar to "retire" and jump ship to the KHL?

I still wish they'd done a XBox360 port for the first Witcher game. To this day, my computer can't run it well (yes, I have a PoS PC), so I have no idea what happens past the first chapter.

Acts I and II of Dragon Age 2 were actually pretty good. Things just fall apart, story-wise, in Act III.

Can't you rent it? In these parts there are a few places where you can rent the console and games for a few days. I plan to draw up a list and if I'm able play the few titles that interest me. Nowhere close to me does that. Blockbuster used to, but every Blockbuster in my city closed/went bankrupt. Watch a Let's Play? Is what I'm doing. I have no idea what that is. If it's what I think the name implies, I'd rather play the game than watch someone else play it? Anyway, on to BioShock 2. I know folks seem to like the original BioShock(s) more than Infinite, but so far I enjoyed Infinite far more than BioShock 1 and the early stages of 2.

Now that they've covered the gay/lesbian angle to death, next up on BioWare's agenda: Daddy/daughter relationships that are romanceable options.

Way too many interesting/intriguing ideas seem to get shelved in favor of mediocre/boring ones. When I read about the various projects Obsidian has had canceled that looked interesting, and when I see some of the games that are on the market, I weep for the gaming industry.
-
They got forced server segregation anyway. So not all of us could play together even if everyone did get the game That sounds like a horrible design idea.
-
Why oh why did Last of Us have to be PS3 exclusive (consoles)? It's the only game on the market I currently am interested in, but there's no way I'm buying a PS3 just for one game.

If y'all played on the 360, I might have picked up Defiance to play with you guys. Damn you and your PC snobbery.

A radio station should prank call her house and pretend they're representing the company she's suing and agree to a settlement of $1 billion dollars. Then when she gets excited about the sum, they say "Gotcha!" and hang up on her.

Book Request: Books that are like ...

That ... wasn't even close to what my request was. -
So I just finished Resident Evil 6 (the video game, obviously) and go to thinking. I'm sort of intrigued by the idea of a book or series of books that revolve around a group or agency like the BSAA in the RE series, who are tasked with investigating and then eliminating global threats (ie. terrorism, infestation, etc). But I haven't a clue what book series even comes close to this sort of idea. -It doesn't have to be "fantasy" where they bad guys are zombies/mutants/things with special powers. Perhaps preferably, but not necessary. -If it's a series, I'd like it to focus on a group of individuals and not just one protagonist (ie. no James Bond or Jason Bourne scenarios), but at the same time it's the same group throughout the series. For instance, the RE series. It's not the same protagonist the entire series, but the various protagonists do have recurring roles. Any suggestions?

RE6 overused the formula of having an unkillable end boss chasing after you through an entire chapter. They did it for all three campaigns, which basically devolved the story into meeting said unkillable end boss, then having him be the entire point of the whole chapter. After finishing RE6, I'm seeing exactly why Revelations was so much more fun for me.

Just finished the Leon campaign in RE6. Unless you find all the emblems, you miss a LOT of story elements. Which is kind of dumb, because there are a bunch of cutscenes that assume you know information that was never actually seen in the core game (hint: Helena's role in a certain death). It's just commented on in one of the files you unlock when you find emblems. One thing I disliked about the ending of all three campaigns: you basically keep fighting the same endboss throughout the entire chapter. "Kill" him, he doesn't die, he chases you, "kill" him again, rinse and repeat until the end of the chapter when he dies for good. It just got kind of cheesy. Now that I've finished all three campaigns, I have to say they should have stuck to putting effort into one single campaign. All three felt more like rough outlines for stories that weren't very fleshed out. Had they spent their time just fleshing out one story, it might have felt more in depth. The Chris campaign, in particular, didn't mesh as well with the rest of the story. At least the Jake and Leon ones kind of had a common theme.

I wish it were 2014 already.

RE6, so far, feels nothing like a RE game. Even RE4 and RE5, which got criticized for moving away from the "survival horror", feel more RE than RE6 does. RE6 feels like a full-out action game, with the zombies not there to "scare" you, but just as cannon fodder for you to shoot at things. I also think they made a mistake by creating 3 different campaigns, each that feel kind of shallow, instead of just creating one main campaign that's fleshed out.

I officially dislike the Jake campaign sections of RE6. It seems the only thing I spend my time doing is running away from that stupid unkillable thing.

Resident Evil 6 isn't impressing me. When I played Revelations, it drew me in right away. It turned into one of those games where I promise myself "just one more mission", then ended up playing a lot longer than that. RE6, by contrast, has been a struggle just to push through. I've thus far played the first chapter in Leon's and Jake's campaign, and neither had me as intrigued as the first chapter in Revelations. Hopefully it picks up.

Playing a bit of Raid mode in Resident Evil Revelations. I really hate those werewolf/alligator looking B.O.W.s though. Give me any of the other enemies any day over those things.

I just assume that everyone has that same mindset when reading my posts. Because every single one of my posts deserve multiple likes.

Well, that's what I get for listening to online advice about how to defeat an end boss. I was having a bit of trouble with the RE Revelations end boss on the hard difficulty, so I went online to check out some advice. Use a machine gun, it said. That's the key. Don't use a rifle or magnum because they're too slow to fire. So after failing multiple times with that, I decide to do things my own way. Equipping my sniper rifle, I take on the end boss and finish him off with relatively no problem. The only thing you need to be good at is quick scoping, where you raise the scope and target without much delay.

I hated the Mages' Tower sections. Then again, I didn't really like many of the "main quest" quests. My enjoyment from DA:O was the character interaction and the subquests that helped flesh out the world.

Currently on a bit of a Resident Evil kick. Finished Revelations (pretty good, though I hated the final boss battle), and now trying to decide to re-play RE5 with my top end gear or move ahead and play RE6, which I've yet to play.
