Drop your heretic thoughts on CRPGs and RPG systems here
Volourn replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Computer and Console
But, it makes sense for fantasy worlds to have thier own calenders since they're being named by people who live in those worlds and not in ours. So.. 'Monday/weds/etc.' or/jan/feb/' etc. may not fit into the world's lingo. Plus, many fantasy worlds have multiple calendars and the like. -
"Yes, but both of those games are terrible." No.

Adventuring, by its nature, is dangerous. The instant deaths and other nasty effects exist to illustrate this fact. Fighitng a beholder or other deadlyc reatures who have such powers isn't supposed to be easy, welcomed, or cool. It is supposed to put fear into the player. Sawyer's example seems like a neat way to do things but it does make things less dangerous hence less challenging. When you are exploring the CAVE OF DOOM you gotta expect some doom. Having multiple second chances doesn't make it more fun or rewarding to survive a beholder. Heck, in the example, it turns flesh to stone into a simple parlysis/stop spell that may turn more 'permenant' a half dozen rounds later. "Clearly fire is involved when dragons are." Of course, not all dragons breath fire.

But,t hat's not subjective. Stating flies like eating poop is not the same as everyone likes eating poop. I have never met a man ( or lesbian for that matter) who are attracted to women with beards more than they are to women without beards. . "Tolkien dwarf women almost certainly had beards, as inferred from a stated similarity in appearance to the men" Human women are similar to human men but they tend not to grow beards (though physically they cand epending on testosterone levels). By your 'proof', I could say dwarven women and dwarven men both have the same body parts between their legs because it is 'inferred' they are similiar. L0L But, we both know that isn't the case, right? \That being said, I'm sure dwarven women are more likely to have beards than, say, human women, since it is obvious that dwarves as a species have more testosterone. And, elves have far less hence the lack of even elven males having beards. Who knows what Tolkien thinks about dwarven women since I don't recall one ever playing a major (or even minor) role in any of his books (likely because he was sexist). But, yeah, it is posisble, Tolkien women have beards but that don't impress me much. DnD dwarven women, on the other hand, while able to grow beards, normally don't have 'em - except like I said above when travelling around humans for disguise. Also, look at the Complete Book of Dwarves. The females in that book from my memory are all clean shaven. Dwarven women beards. Love the internet. -
"Yeah, after the walking speeds were modded. I'm talking about the Baldur's Gate games, not the other IE games, which had perfectly fine movement speeds." Um.. we're both talking about BG since Friendly Arms Inn is in BG. It did not ever take 2minutes to walk from one end to the other. That is with basic walking speed. People like to exaggerate the pathfinding AI in the BG/IE games and I simply don't believe them because it would mean they play a whole different game whcih is illogical.

'Oldschool D&D has a lot of talk of bearded female dwarves.' Define 'a lot'. I've been around D&D for nearly 30 years and 'bearded female dwarves' were FAR from the norm. I love the fact you claim bearded women are 'convetionally sexy'. L0L Like it's a matter of taste:P. Bearded women aren't sexy. period. -
No.

Spell components would be an awesome addition to RPG/DnD video games. But, game developers are cowards. This idea that the 'masses' would hate it and not buy your game is silly talk. Just use common sense. Many of the M&M series had the use of gems and that worked fine. TOEE did it fine. The above examples are ways to entwine material components into the story, quests, gameplay, and FUN of the game. Very few people truly want you to be forced to have '10 uses of dung' to cast a DnD version of fireball. People aren't even that anal in pnp for components. L0L

Such a silly concept. I mean, this is simply indefensible and lacks logic and makes the game less fun. It's a horrible mechanic, adds nothing worthwhile to the game, and hurts the fabled 'immersion'. This is, by far, one of the top 3 worst things said about the game. Thankfully, there's been some really good thinsg said about the game too. But, THIS? Disgusting.

You guys are ignorant. Hardcore doesn't mean = super hard and impossible. And, the lie that only 'hundreds' would play it is asanine with no basis in fact. Of course, fi money is the goal, they don't need to make it 'hardcore' because all the 'hardcore' players are saps and will buy games no matter what so they don't need to cater to them. -

I wish it is hardcore but I don't see it happening. Obsidian doesn't have the ballz to make a full fledge TRUE hardcore rpg. I'm sure it'll be enjoyable but it won't even close to hardcore because Sawyer loathes hardcore gamers. -

You guys simply don't get how wisdom works in DnD espicially in regards to priests, godes, and the like. Such ignorance is shameful when spekaing on topic.s I thoguht this was the 'blasphemous opinions' thread not the 'ignorant opinions' thread. L0L -

In DnD/fantasy the vast majority of dwarven females have no beards. It's a myth that they do. This misconception is beyond silly. I also think it came to be because somewhere it was written that when 'dwarven females go out into human lands for adventuring or whatnot they MAY (not always) grow a beard to disguise themselves as males', Just look at the Complete Book of Dwarves. The female dwarves in that book are beardless. As they should be. As for the poll, dwarf of course. Most of these other races are wannabes. -
"I love how people judge movies they haven't even seen, thats how you form a valid high quality opinion fu yeah! Whatever happened to the philosophy of having an unbiased open mind? " Thousands of movies are released each year. I can't watch them all. Commercials - which tend to to show some of the ';better' scenes - are supposed to make you interested in the film. ie. sell it. Besides, everyone here has judged movies they haven't seen. In fact, EVERYBODY has. It's how we decide which movies we watch and don't watch. Did you watch a film like Vampire Academy? If not, why? Did you watch that Ahnold movie that just came out and bombed? If not, why? If you expect me to feel shame because I pick and choose which movies I watch you failed. All I know is the commercials were Bullock is screeching her head off made me not want to watch it becasuse she is horrible. Anmd, like I said, I'm usually pro Bullock and have been since Speed and The Net.
-
Played a little South Park.. not overly impressed though still early.
-
Geez.. You guyz always get it wrong. Gravity sucks and Bullock, while I used to like her, seems to be getting worse. Just the Gravity commericals with her screeching was enoguh for me not to want to watch that movie EVER. And, Ronin was an enjoyable fantasy action adventure. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than that trash Gravity to be sure.

Hunger Games (1&2) and Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (yeah I know it was a criticial and financial dissapointment) but I enjoyed it. Nowhere near as good as the other two though. Oh, I also forgot The Host. That was an entertaining film also. Then again, some people include movies like 'Carrie' as 'YA' films. L0L For the record, I didn't care for either HP or Twilight series. Couldn't finish a single film of either (not that I tried to after the first few lol).
-
Watched Divergent. Very good movie, and one of only 3 'YA' films I've watched and enjoyed since becoming an 'adult'. 9/10 Only one (2?) scenes annoyed me.
-
Look at that. The 'favorites' get beat up. And, even though he had 28 points, Durant didn't even shoot well.. yet SA still lost. HAHAHAA! 'Favorites'...
-
Doubtful. They don't have Jennifer Lawrence in them. She basically makes the movies.

"Rogues are almost always implemented badly." Rogues are almost always implemented correctly. I don'tg et this diea that b/c rogues are not as 'powerful' as WARRIORS or MAGIC USERSin battle that somehow they are done wrong. This idea that everything should be BALANCED and EQUAL is silly. Rogues should not be able to, for the most part, be the equal of a warrior in a fight. That's just plain dumb. -
"My issues are more when you go onto the next two books." Books are irrelevant. This is the MOVIE thread.
