I really, really like it. My only complaint is about the leftmost panel. I haven't had the opportunity to play the beta yet so I'm not really familiar with the game mechanics, but I find it WAY too cryptic. There's too many values out there with obscure acronyms. And I think I've read an interview from JS where he mentioned that they're also targeting a whole new audience (younger players) who have not necessarily played all the IE games. That said, I'm all up for having a bit more stats than what we currently have. I think it could partly be solved with having the full name f the attributes be displayed on mouse over, but still I believe theres a bit too much information on such a small place. Why not make the portrait a bit smaller instead? It would allow you to make the stat section much clearer.

[Mod] Sensuki & Matt516's Attribute System
Quantics replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Impressive! Looking forward to hear what people think. -
Thanks for the feedback. As a Mac user I haven't yet had the pleasure of trying the beta so it's nice to read you all. Looking forward to see some video reviews as well. EDIT: there was no need to be so aggressive though. Relax...

Sensuki's Suggestions #019: Desynchronized Character Movement
Quantics replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I don't think the delays that Sensuki is describing would be nearly as long as "as few seconds". A few hundred milliseconds, most likely. But tbh I think it also makes sense from a ecological/RP point of view. If you assume that your main character is leading the group, it would make sense that s/he initiates the movement slightly before the rest of the party. -
But you know very well that some people here would find it equally 'offending' if they did send such short updates. I'm sure we'd be getting angry posts all the same. "The ONLY reason you exist is because we funded your project. TWO DAYS of silence and THIS is what we get? A tiny, one-liner message? I paid to get actual feedback, not updates so succinct they could fit in a tweet *outraged* " -- Bottom line is, they can never do enough for some people.

Sensuki's Suggestions #019: Desynchronized Character Movement
Quantics replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I agree with Sensuki's idea, seems fairly easy to implement. Related to this, why not also instead have taller characters take slightly longer footsteps, and shorter characters slightly faster? That would also help increase realism, imho. I don't know how the walking animations are coded though, so maybe it's completely unrealistic. -
Oh come on! They've been posting numerous messages on these (and other) boards. And tbh, I'd rather they spent their working hours actually *fixing* the game rather than wasting time replying to cranky comments like yours. EDIT: overly aggressive post this, sorry... but you get the point

You sirs are too impatient. I'm sure the devs are working very hard on this and will release it when it's ready (ie. when it's at a stage that THEY think that it would be useful to get your feedback on). There's plenty of things they can work on without your scrutiny. Giving us day to day feedback is just going to be distracting them away from what they actually should be focussing on (fixing bugs !). Plus by giving precise status updates/ETAs they take the 'risk' of exasperating everyone even more if they don't manage to meet the deadlines.

DLC vs Expansion Packs
Quantics replied to Intoxicated_Ant's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's probably already been said, but I think while DLCs make sense in a heavily multiplayer game (like Diablo), they are completely inadequate for a single player game such as PoE. When you start a new single player game, you don't want to have new stuff added to the game before you're finished. Conversely, imagine a new class is added as a DLC, you don't want to have to restart a whole new game in order to benefit from it.- 139 replies

Second impressions thread! [Build 278 version]
Quantics replied to Tartantyco's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
This is an excellent suggestion ! I'm just quoting it in case anyone has missed it. -
Another impatient mac-user here

@PrimeJunta Makes total sense. Thanks for clarifying this @Sensuki I can barely imagine the time it takes to keep such an elaborate bug list up-to-date. Tbh I'd rather the devs used their time fixing the bugs, rather than wasting hours listing and describing them. I just wish it was easier for beta-testers to organise bug reports. And I'm sure it takes Obsidian a lot of time to go through these forums as well.

It isn't exactly that easy, but we will send out notes that list some of the major fixes and some of the stuff we are still working on. Why don't you just use a bug tracker? That would allow you to almost completely bypass the patch notes, wouldn't it?

Sensuki's Suggestions #015: Animations & Model Collision
Quantics replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
+ 1 ! Shall we make a thread for it? -
Combat readability analysis - graphics
Quantics replied to Justinian's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
If we voice our concerns loud enough there is no reason why they wouldn't listen to us. I think your suggestions so far (as well as those in the line of Falkon's, above), have been very reasonable – and also very well-motivated (from years and years of RPG experience). If I were a developer, I don't see why I wouldn't listen to such sound advice. -

Quantics replied to Justinian's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Awesome ideas here Falkon Swiftblade ! Especially like number 3. I'm not a developer at all, but they all seem relatively straightforward to implement, which at this stage in the development is essential as they're not going to undertake huge UI/playability overhauls. -
Pretty disappointed, this launches in December?
Quantics replied to khermann's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I agree. Let's also hope that PoE will attract attention from the modding community. It's essential for a game like this to allow the user base to generate mods and fixes. I don't think I would have enjoyed replaying BG2 as much without the BG2 Fixpack. -

Quantics replied to khermann's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Honestly I think it's entirely fair, as long as they do keep on working on the AI after the release. If they consistently show us that they are committed to improving the game, I'll be a happy child. Even if it implies paying a bit more for add-ons and expansions. -

What Can Change before release?
Quantics replied to wpmaura's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I agree with PrimeJunta above, except that I believe that the XP system could eventually get changed IF it turns out that most players actually want this (which is far from being the case though). My point is, they're not going to make a huge change to the game UNLESS it's a crucial point for an overwhelming majority of the beta-testers. -
IMO while having the possibility to choose different arrows is great, I think we would be better off with a 'dematerialised' arrow system, where you can buy arrows but they would not show up in the inventory. You could just, for instance, right click on your bow and select which arrow it will fire. Inventory space seems very limited in PoE, I don't think it's wise to waste it with arrow space.
