Sensuki's Suggestions #029: Customizable Main HUD [Mockup]
Quantics replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I'm not a fan of the different-sized portraits. I'd rather have all of them the same size, a bright green outline around the currently selected character portrait. Also what happens to the huge portrait at the bottom-centre when you select multiple characters? Doesn't make sense to me. Also, I think it would look better with no gap between portraits. -
Sensuki's Suggestions #029: Customizable Main HUD [Mockup]
Quantics replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I agree with sensuki. PE is going to be very story driven. Yet at the moment it's really a pain to read dialogue since the box is so small. -
That's not a bad idea. I put some entries in. I've added some formulas to compute attribute averages by class.
-
I always like my Dock on the side Makes it possible to see more things when browsing.
-
Should we make some kind of Google Spreadsheet where every one could enter their preferred stats/class ? It would be easier to compare/make stats on the resulting numbers.... EDIT: something like this (feel free to edit, bit busy atm) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wUGQY5acVyAHrr354XmmCkoE3dzWjzqWHXD-TG3hyNM/edit?usp=sharing

I think I would prefer it if all the buttons on the left hand bar were moved to the bar on the right. There's no need for 2 vertical bars IMO. PS: I'll say it again : LOVE the log in the centre

You're clearly in minority with this opinion. Only if you only count diehard IE fans and ignore the vast majority of backers who don't come to the beta discussion forum. I agree with Karkarov. While Seari's suggestion certainly feels 'familiar' it takes way too much space for me. Not everyone's going to be playing on >20" screens. I DO like the log in the centre though. It's essential for me.

I totally agree. I think Obsidian should *seriously* consider implementing a way to easily tease appart at least Offensive and defensive spells. IE games used RED, BLUE, GREEN or WHITE colours to easily distinguish between (offensive, defensive, protection, buff) spells. The current spell icons in PoE look nice but they're impractical. Also, while it makes sense that different level spells are separated by levels in the spell book, it's useless to have a level-based separation in the main combat interface. Splitting the spells in categories would be MUCH more practical. However, this is currently not the case, and I always find myself having to mouse over all the different spells for many seconds to see their effects every time i want to cast a spell

Mac Client won't launch from Steam
Quantics replied to TerenZero's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
This has already been reported : http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/69151-yosemite-mac-crash/ http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/69136-mac-beta-immediately-quits/ Here is a workaround : http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/69054-backer-beta-build-333-is-live/?view=findpost&p=1529352 -
I also would like to see the portraits on the right side and the log on the left. It makes more sense to me as we are used to reading from left to right.

Lack of/Uneven amount of Unique Weapon Art
Quantics replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yup, great to hear ! Itemisation is definitely one of the most important aspects of an RPG for me... PS: sensuki, do you ever sleep mate? isn't it like the middle of the night in aussieland? -
A Proposition for Improving Combat Interface Feedback
Quantics replied to Gairnulf's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Actually in your screenshot the light green and red ones are fine. The two dark green ones are too thin IMO (or too dark ). -
Dropping items on the ground makes sense to many from a RP perspective though.

+1 Also: - Selection circles are too thin - Some circles are masked by shadows - Character silhouettes are not clearly outlined - And what the heck is that brownish 'shadow on the ground below the female character? Is that blood? Urgh. -

Again? YES it was perhaps a bad design decision to start with, but for reasons stated 100s of times in other threads, it's not one that can be reversed this far into development. You can get back to lobbying for lower camera angles when the expansion/sequel is announced. -
[Description of the issue] Sometimes characters (NPCs and party members alike) have a darker shadow/outline which is separate from their character model. This happens especially inside buildings. Evidenced in the screenshots below, taken in Trygil's Curriery. [333][OSX] Menu bar and dock still appear in full screen
Quantics posted a question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
[Description of the issue] In fullscreen mode, hovering mouse cursor over edges of screen toggles the OSX dock/menu bar. [Expected behaviour] Dock and Menu bar should stay hidden in fullscreen. -
Thanks for the update. I would be very interested to get a small summary of what comes out of your "play days". I think a lot of people would love to hear YOUR opinion on the current state of the game, what aspects you consider need the most work, and those that you are not likely to revisit until release. This would be a good way for the beta-testers to focus their energy on stuff that is actually useful to you and that are likely to make a difference. Currently the discussions are all over the place (XP, combat, graphics, and whatnot) which is probably a waste of everyone's time.

I thought the music was great. ...so I turned it off entirely ! I don't want to risk being fed up with it before even playing the full game. Kudos to you Justin!

Yeah I'm pretty sure re-rendering is never going to happen. Clearly all the areas have been painted over already, I can't imagine this being left out to the very end. I was suggesting to slightly tilt the 3 models to a more vertical view (only slightly) and leave the background rendering as such. Wonder if it would be noticeable. PS: in case some are wondering what the difficulty might be, here's a link showing the paint over process : http://media.obsidian.net/eternity/media/updates/0025/PE-TempleEntrance-ProcessStack-1340.jpg

Re: viewing angle, I was naively wondering if it would even be noticeable if one were to to keep the current terrain artwork, and simply change the 3d character-view to a SLIGHTLY more vertical angle? You know by a couple degrees at least. I wonder if our eyes would be able to tell the difference? Anyway, I'm probably overlooking many things here.
