  1. I used to love the Winter Olympics (never cared about Summer Olympics) in the 80's. The luge, the ice skating/dancing, speed skating, the ski jump, and so on. I have a difficult time watching the American network broadcasts of them these days. They're often so .... terribly done. Maybe I can find some cable channel that does it better.
  2. Norton is probably why I bought it. Primal Fear is still my personal favorite role of his. Just likely not my type of setting...hence why I never got around to actually watching it. I also have never seen The Godfather. There's also, for me, the David Fincher thing. Seven appears to (so far) be the only movie David Fincher has directed that I seriously liked (Zodiac was fairly decent too). I haven't liked any other Fincher film beyond the "it's watchable/mildly interesting" level so at this point his name doesn't inspire confidence for me personally.
  3. This is about where my relationship with this cult film is at this point. I even own it but never watched it. From what I've seen, I'd probably enjoy it but wouldn't exalt it.
  4. P.S. Hoffman died? That sucks. Especially the method, if true. Hardly older than I am. Certain drugs one should just say no to, always. Always. I'm so flu-sick it's not even funny. But at least I can mostly breathe so I don't think I'm on swine-flu's death door. Just omg...so weak/dizzy/aching. Isolated myself in this room, surrounded by otc meds. I was disappointed Thera-Flu seems to be gone (hubs went to 3 stores, couldn't find any). Also, it can be really difficult, apparently, to get any cold meds WITHOUT any tylenol (or aspirin - I can't take aspirin) in it. I prefer Advil (joint pain/swelling) and don't want to double-up.
  5. I had to Google Jessie Eisenberg, heh. I can sorta see it, appearance wise. I'm not sure about style wise. Depends what they're doing with the sequel I guess. Irons as Alfred tho...well, I'll give him a chance. Not like he doesn't have the acting chops.
  6. Head feels a fair bit better but now cough/dizzy with chills/spking fever. Orange juice, I need orange juice. And more blankets. Also, laundry machine broke (well the electric push-contact of the closing lid did, anyway). Lovely day.
  7. They looked horrible even when released. That said, if you play them not full-screen (on today's monitors), it's better. I think what bugs me most these days is that tiny gameplay window area vs. the GUI.
  8. Yeah, and his famous bad teeth. Dunno...must be something about his screen persona. Since I can't do much of anything even remotely strenuous, today I watched (via Netflix): The Final Countdown - an early 80's sci-fi where a battleship is sucked back in time to the day of Pearl Harbor. Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen + others. Not quite as disaster-cheese as I was hoping for, but it passes the time pretty well. Devil's Pass - found-footage chiller directed by Renny Harlin. Blair Witch in the snow, only with a lot less camera-shake, chrs. that act slightly more mature, and a sci-fi bend at the end. Better than most such movies and I did kinda like the end, but that's probably not saying a whole lot. Didn't turn it off, tho. A Lonely Place to Die - mountain-climbing people running from other people who want to kill them thriller type movie. Child in peril motivation. Some really gorgeous scenery and shudder-inducing mt. heights situations but after 40 minutes I turned it off. Aftershock - 10 minutes in I found myself skipping ahead. And then again. The earthquake doesn't happen until the movie is half over. Then it's your rather standard people can be horrible to each other survival and then there were none horror/thriller.
  9. Ok I've watched several episodes of Intelligence. The leads are fine, but overall the show kinda has that irritating habit of the CSI trend - all tech flash and little substance. It's all about the guy's flashy memory-GUI/inner 3D recreation bits, which starts to feel too gimmicky. Probably won't watch anymore.
  10. If that's the one with the big mech-suits ... I liked the graphical environment but yeah, couldn't see myself playing it for long.
  11. You too? ...I think mine's a little less severe today. I don't feel nauseous every time I move my head, at least. Hopefully that means something. I suppose if this continues through the weekend I'll go see a doc just to be safe. Was zoned on the couch watching "Looper" earlier. I still find it a "just missed being great" type of movie, but that scene where the old version of a guy is being reduced piece by piece (fingers, nose, limbs) still creeps me out.
  12. Hubby: "Feeling any better?" Me: "No." Hubby: "Maybe you have that bug that's going around killing people!" Me: "...thanks, I feel so much better now." Hubby: "I live to serve!"
  13. The sweaty-palm memories of my low level naked mage tap-tap-tapping his way around dark corners to this music will never die.
  14. The Island, the one with Ewan McGregor. I'd seen it before but eh it was on. One of those odd films where 1/3 makes it seem like a more intellectual sci-fi, then it goes into the Michael Bay action excess mode. Still, it has Sean Bean, so you know you have a certain predictable something to look forward to! ...I also found myself gazing at Scarlett Johannsan (spelling...) and thinking she was much prettier in that film than in later films. Which isn't to say she's not still pretty. She just seems hotter to me in The Island for some reason. ...is it strange that I find Steve Buscemi kinda hot? Well, except in Boardwalk Empire. I don't find the look they give him in that very attractive. More when he's in scruffy, long-haired mode. Sorry, I'm babbling again.
  15. Decided I kinda like that Showtime Shameless show. Not typically my thing but it does make me giggle with its outrageousness, and there's some characters that are worth keeping track of (oldest son, youngest daughter, crazy boozing father). Sadly one of my fave chrs. appears to be gone from the show...tho a crack was possibly left open for him to show up again one day perhaps. Always happens to me. I start a show, like a chr, watch for that chr, and the chr. leaves/is killed off/actor quits/whatever.
  16. Not really related, but I'm glad I don't live in snowy areas where they salt the roads a lot or something. Or right on the coast with all the salty sea air/fog. Terrible for cars/too much work (for me) to keep them clean. Skin oil from the ears ruining headphone covers is one reason I wish they'd stop using that super thin pleather over the foam. That stuff heats up the ears even more, starts to crack, peel off and stick to you. Also why I wipe the ears with tissues constantly if I'm wearing headphones a lot, especially in summer. I should wrap some cotton cloth around the earpieces with rubber bands or something. Speaking of headsets/headphones, I could use some half-way decent but not expensive wireless ones for when I want to lie down instead of sit in a chair. Time to browse Amazon or something.
  17. None yet that I'm aware of. I think it's still a bit early to be predicting time frames for that.
  18. In other daily news ... I still have a headache. I'd like to take a bath but bending over to scrub the tub first isn't going to be happening. Even tiny exertions make the head pulse like it's being hit with 1000 tiny magical hammers. I'm tired of lying prone, however, so I think I'm going to try playing some mindless game for a while. Maybe try to eat something, too. Is chicken soup good for a migraine? Maybe some steamed veggies...
  19. I could be entirely mistaken in my impressions, too, let me say. I'm not even playing the game after all. It's only the impressions I have from reading about the game in various places. It'll take some more weeks and a lot more players finishing the game several times to really know for sure what type of balancing it has. Also, when I say easier, I don't always mean faster. But typically for myself at least, I'll die/wipe a lot less often with all-mage/all-ranged than melee. My melee combat skill is not very phat, in any game. But apparently I maneuver parties around a field pretty well - when such is an option.
  20. Some of my fave memories are going to the giant car junkyards with hubby, looking for car parts. Something that in the area I live in, at least, isn't something that's all that productive to do anymore. I'm not a mechanic but I get to hear all about such things from hubby, who's worked on cars all his life. His complaints along these lines are many and full of bitterness.
  21. In terms of terminology I tend to think of Rogues or other potentially high damage, largely single-attack, moderately but not heavily armored classes as shock troops or strikers. I also find it curious that people think terms like "tank" comes from WoW. I've heard such terms bandied about long before WoW.
  22. I don't know about "all," since I'm pretty sure I haven't ever come close to playing that many. But the ones I have played ... nah, not really. What usually happens is such is a lot more difficult in the beginning but then actually becomes easier. Which is actually a common balance complaint. Balancing for the generalized common party make-up is fine. I only dislike it if I feel there's little to no flexibility away from certain party makeups. eg, I don't even like feeling like I *must* have a Cleric type.
  23. Well I'm sure there's variable situations that call for one or another, like any RPG. It's just sounding like melee is more dominant and/or would be pretty tough to not have any melee at all. Like a party of 3 mages + 1 cleric or no cleric at all.
  24. The complexity of modern cars is why I don't like them. Gets harder and harder to troubleshoot/fix little stuff yourself, unless you're an actual mechanic+computer tech. Their general engine longevity/reliability is, for the most part at least, a lot longer tho. I'd agree. I think one reason US people like the old classic sports cars is that, even with limited ability, as long as they can still get the basic engine parts, they can keep them going "forever." Or you can refurbish the original parts enough to make them useful again. Unlike a lot of newer cars, which have all those very specific gizmos/dependencies as well as it becoming more and more unlikely that companies will make/have the parts, circuits and specific chips (or whatever) for 5+ decades. I'm sure it's possible, but to some it feels like a lot more hassle then with the older cars. Which is the same thing with tons of other stuff, really. Hence the disposable era. Cheaper/less bother to buy a new one then fix the old one.
