  1. I was becoming too impatient, so I used my recent discovery of a suspended animation method (patent pending, not FDA approved) to shorten the wait time for PoE.
  2. Last thing I tried was Borderlands Prequel. This was mostly because the BL series is still the only thing hubby likes/plays so we were hoping for more LAN fun. Sadly, while it does feel like Borderlands, we were disappointed with it. It's not terrible, mind you, but the area design is dull compared to 1st two games, the gravity-slam and low gravity features didn't excite us and the campaign was pretty short even for us slowpokes. We went through Normal difficulty and I haven't touched it since. Claptrap as a playable chr. was sorta amusing, tho. Oh and the Cyro/freezing weapons were fun to use. The most irritating is how so many of the quest bosses aren't re-farmable. Such is fine in a story-rpg game, but a loot-hunt/grinding game? Not so much. At any rate, technically it does qualify as a stand-alone, full-price game, but it plays more like a $30 expansion.
  3. Since I have no "portable platforms," pardon my sheer ignorance, but how easy/difficult is it to play a game like Kotor on a phone? I mean, what does one do for controls? Plug in a mouse? Touchpad tapping (which I have a difficult time seeing how to play certain games with)?
  4. Really? Well, I'm going to have to check that one out at least once. Over the last month, thanks to Netflix, I have become addicted to the CW's Supernatural. the 1st season was so-so then it picked up. Has it's ups and downs but I find it highly entertaining overall, and often funny. Also, the super-hot angel dude doesn't hurt.
  5. Today, after months of "personal affairs" attended to, I returned to the Obsidian fora. Hope everyone is well, I missed this crazy place. ...I see I missed the PoE beta start. Don't want to spoil myself, but I'll have to at least check it out a little. ...the only game I've tried in the past 6-ish months is Borderlands Prequel, and I wasn't very impressed. ...my black kittah is still adorable, despite his fetish for my feet and leaving torn paper shreds everywhere. ...hubby and I seem to actually be heading for early retirement. If you'd told me 15 years ago that this was even remotely possible for us, I'd have laughed.
  6. You know you've played too much Banished when you play Casear 3 and you keep trying to rotate buildings, zoom with the mouse, and pause using the spacebar. Oh yeah, and when you keep forgetting that ESC doesn't close menus, it gives you the exit-game prompt. Har. ...I love city-builders. I need moah of them.
  7. If you backed PE during the Kickstarter period and do not have/see your Kickstarter forum badge (the green K), please state so below and we will rectify the problem. Thanks! Link to previous thread
  8. Hahah, I like the "sample map" side by side comparison pic in that forum thread. Hahaha. Not that I really blame a 9 year old for that ... assuming she's actually the one mostly working on it and not her mother. It's still funny, tho.
  9. Just out of curiosity, did you watch/like South Park? I tried playing the game a little more since I had the one random glitch, but can't get into it. I figured this is mostly because I'm not at all into the series/chrs, even if it's occasionally sorta amusing. It is a great job of making a game feel like the TV show, tho.
  10. As I've said before, I enjoyed Gravity, thought it was ok for 3D (still didn't convince me 3D is a great thing tho) and while it was pretty silly at times, it was fun. Plus I loved the space shots - that said, I will admit that sometimes Sandra's first staccato yelps of terror were extremely annoying to listen to. Cringe-worthy, even. Seeing the full movie does not make those any better then they were in the ads. But the film does not consist of her yelping in that manner 24/7.
  11. Hubby is sick and I've been extra-lazy, so tried our local Papa John's pizza delivery for the 1st time.Hubby ate more than one piece, so I guess it's "ok" for fast food chain pizza. Which isn't saying a whole lot, mind. Wish we had stuff like deli delivery for cold sandwiches and salads or something. Not just typical burger/pizza/cheap Chinese or mondo expensive restaurants whose food doesn't deliver well (soggy/weird from container condensation when it arrives). Unplugged the 2560x1440 monitor since all it does is make me want to buy one (or two) LG 27EA83R-D monitors when I have no real need for one outside of "games would look 20-30% sweeter vs. my 1080." ... just can't justify it (right now). Away, temptation, away. Mr. Black has taken up a new habit of sleeping on the floor bath-towel in our tiny bathroom. I have no idea why. Can't stand it because who wants cat hair all over their showered feet, right? Keep shooing him off, but next time I go to the 'loo, there he is. Darn cat!
  12. ** Hubby and I watch "47 Ronin" then when the end credits roll... ** Me: Wow...I wasn't expecting much at all, just some good sword-fight scenes or something. Hubs: Ditto. Me: It's never good when in spite of my very low expectations, I'm still quite disappointed... Hubs: Nothing to add to that.... ...an almost no-fun-action fantasy samurai movie blended with Lord of the Rings beast CGI and background scenery.
  13. My understanding is that hi-res monitors are DVI-D. Some monitors require it to get higher than 1920x1080 resolutions. I like them for when you have 2 (or more) PC's and 2 (or more) monitors and you don't want two+ keyboards and mice. I suppose not many use them anymore ...
  14. I like KVM switchboxes. Obviously, monitors are coming with no VGA these days, so I'll need a new one soon for when I feel like having/using two PC's on at once. Which isn't often these days but I still like having the option there. I have no clue what to look for, but I do know non-VGA ones seem pretty darn expensive for some unfathomable reason. Could you get one that will KVM switch between a VGA and a DVI-D one? Or is that just not possible and you always have to have the monitors be all the same. Anyone have one to recommend?
  15. I don't think I'll be getting a 4k monitor anytime soon either. Certainly not going to plan my next PC around one. Maybe the PC after that. The higher the resolution the less one cares about AA at all, really ... but I do love my AF, at least in some games. My current issue is whether (for my needs) I could really just get away with a new GPU/monitor and put off a new PC altogether for still a few years. Since I don't play super demanding games that much my 1st gen i7 still seems all right and it's mostly about more vram/gpu performance and hi-res monitors. Or something. Can't decide.
  16. Chinese food and a movie. I may not like thisHP monitor or tiny text, but it does make me want the bigger resolution IPS for gaming. LG's is only $800! ... but I'd have to mail order it. And I don't think I want 3 monitors on my desk...
  17. HP-ZR2740w promo monitor - well, the extra resolution is nice, but everything desktop-wise is so tiny. My old eyes can't stand it. Even tho technically readable, the tiny always makes me feel like I'm trying to read a bookcover from across a room. Consumer reviews say reliability is bad, too. Course we didn't pay for this one ... but I think hubby can have it. ... games do "pop" a bit more because of higher res of course (and games don't need magnification). ... the color of the HP monitor leans a tad too much towards the yellow for my liking, and Nvidia control panel really sucks for color adjustment. ...my LG beats it for blacks/whites contrast/brightness hands down. ...btw, running two big monitors (for same pc) at once is kinda fun. Yes, that's right, never did that before. I forgot I had no heavy-duty games currently installed for testing the gpu/fps with. Stuff like Banished, FO:NV and Caesar 3 aren't exactly demanding.
  18. So does this game have any city building aspect to it, or is it more the Age of Empires/more typical RTS sort of thing, if that makes sense?
  19. I was mostly thinking I might want a new GPU...the 590 is still great but it's kinda reaching that point where my "want a nice fps buffer" speed-freak nature might want more powah. Especially when a game doesn't utilize both the 590's cores. The fps mark drops at even 2540x1440 still worry me. Although those are usually tested with AA really high I guess, which I wouldn't do. Edit: Oops...it's even worse, I was mistaking the 2540 marks list for the 4k ones... haha. Yeah...no.
  20. So looking at fps marks for 4k runs of this (and other cards), I see that they don't fare all that well (solo, not sli'd, I mean). This card gets around 55fps, which is actually ok, but most cards below it are dropping to the 40's or even 30's. Be a while before lower/mid-price cards get there, I guess, eh? Not that I'm personally planning on a 4k monitor any time soon ... but it's interesting. 50ish fps is fine, but I wouldn't want to go back to 30fps. And I'm not sure I want to spend $700+ again, either. At least not with the whole 4k thing on the horizon.
  21. This. Most of the time it's better to grow/support the friendship, and to hope that if she wants help/support that she'll know you're there for her. Just diving in with unexpected/unsolicited lecture/concerns isn't usually the best way, especially in a work environment. If you're buddies with her family and they ask you to help with some kind of big intervention-like thing because her family is that concerned, that might be one thing, but if you're not ... I'd leave it alone.
  22. Hubs brought home a 2540x1440 (or whatever it is...) 27" IPX (IPS? heck I can't keep up anymore) monitor that was super cheap because it has no built-in monitor color settings/on-screen displays or something. Which is poo, but if it looks good enough maybe I wouldn't care. I think it's HP. Going to try it and see what kind of fps drops I get playing games, haha. Keep thinking about a new GPU but not sure it's worth the prices at the moment since the gtx-590 still seems plenty fine. But I've also been feeling rather down, which sometimes equals me going on a shopping spree. Maybe I should hold off for the 4k revolution, tho.
  23. Kangaroo rat, right? I want one of those. They're so cute.
