  1. Cashing in on gamer gullibility - why not? That's been the Kickstarter m.o. from the start, and part of the reason why I have only funded one Kickstarter project, the other part being the rehashed formula of every aspect of the KS games. Kickstarter is simply a microcosm of the gaming industry.
  2. I didn't think either KOTOR game aged well. The sequel just slightly better than it's predecessor, but neither are great to play these days.
  3. I thought FO3 had quests and quest rewards just as good if not better than FNV. FNV had the better story/branching plot/shooter mechanics but the quests themselves weren't anything special(quests indoors were kind of a pain actually, with the maze layouts). I liked both for slightly different reasons but I can't say I look forward to another Bethesda sequel. Honestly I don't know if I'll even play it. There's such a thing as overkill and that's what the series is experiencing after two major releases with 4 dlc's each. How is another game even remotely interesting? Perhaps if Obsidian were doing it... in a few years, in a completely different setting...
  4. Yeah. I can't stand the environments of the Fallouts but simply being able to listen to the radio and adding music mods to FNV even moreso makes it more fun to play. The radio was so buggy in FO3 that I didn't even bother turning it on, thus killing a fair amount of the playability. The wasteland is mindnumbingly dull without music.
  5. Yes, checkpoints. That alone is a major improvement. Red Dead has them, pretty sure LA Noire does as well. While it doesn't fix poor game mechanics, it does make dealing with them more tolerable. I'll probably just pick up GTA V when it gets dirt cheap. No rush to play another open world game.
  6. Game mechanics are different? As well as no bloated traveling to initiate a quest, then travel back across a bridge to begin the quest, where you end up doing a pitiful chase sequence? And if the target "gets away" do you have to cover the same distance all over again? That's my main gripe with GTA IV. Sure, the characters are boring, driving physics blow, missions are weak, but the travel time filler gameplay completely kills it. Red Dead and LA Noire both had better ways to save and repeat a mission, plus travel wasn't as much of a drag as driving is handled much better in LA Noire, and Red Dead's horse strapped wagons have better traction, control and literal horse power than GTA's cars.
  7. Is this game actually worth a crap beyond visuals? I've never finished GTA IV due to it's insistence on being a bad driving simulator above all things. What a miserable experience that game was/is. I've replayed it some this past week and it's a downright horrible experience. I'm not sure I'll ever bother trying to finish it again, and with that in mind, I doubt I'll even bother getting GTA V. It can't be that much different than the garbage that is GTA IV.
  8. I wasn't blown away by DE:HR as some people were, but there's a serious lack of FPS games these days that I'll be atleast somewhat interested. I just wish the voice acting weren't so cheesy.
  9. I hope with the FPS perspective the game actually has decent immersion and feels and plays better than open world games tend to. I was getting hyped, then I finally played Sleeping Dogs and that game ruined my need to play another open world game anytime soon. But since there's so few FPS games anymore and the setting is in Cali, I'm still somewhat interested even though it's another open world game - hopefully it doesn't completely feel like one..
  10. Meant to say dark medieval fantasy crap, nothing wrong with dark fantasy, hell, I want more of it, just not in the medieval setting. I really can't play any more games in those environments.
  11. I could make a thread saying the same thing concerning nearly all Kickstarter games. I just don't see the appeal. However, atleast, as some have said, the environment isn't dark fantasy crap, but bright, light hearted fantasy crap. That's one plus.
  12. One thing that puts me off many RPGs is that they start off in the most uninteresting and unimaginative ways. It's as if it's an RPG staple to be as lame as possible from the outset, which is one of the reasons why Bloodlines is so good - it's one of the few games that is extremely top heavy in story/action/content. That not game developer's doing, though. CD Projekt just made the right call taking novels of a decent writer as a base, starting out with solid fleshed out world and several charismatic characters, including Geralt himself. That blasted "sex happens every time you turn around" part that so many people hated outright was just another thing brought up from novels in sake of consistency. It resulted in slight confusion when the game's script poses itself as continuation of the events in the books and uses entire scenes from those at the same time. What, it's all happened again in exactly the same way as before? In context of rpgs, I guess writer have to use different tricks depending on whether protagonist is a predefined person or supposed to be fully customazible by player. The latter tends to be a little nonsense-generating occasionally. Too bad none of that actually helped the dialogue writing in the Witcher, which ranges from edgy ****goblin insults to overly wordy, unnatural conversation. They need a writer who knows how to be concise with something other than insults. And the Witcher 2 does have the amnesia storyline...
  13. Not really, but there's never a wrong time to laugh at uninspired, place holderesque game worlds.
  14. Actually Sword Coast is the official name of that region. It would be like calling next farcry, California Legends. At least they're consistent. I can't wait to reach the area, simply titled, Treasure Chest or Armored Castle or Heavy Rocks.
  15. Sword Coast... Would it actually kill them to be creative? It's like calling the next Farcry, Gun Island. Coming to you Q4 2016... The long anticipated.. Gun Island. Pre order and reserve your copy today.
  16. That would have the potential to be the most bland game ever made.
  17. Alien invitation to dinner? I'm bored out of my mind with cyberpunk/steampunk/post apocalyptic/medieval fantasy and to a lesser extent, sci fi. A real western rpg, without the steampunk stuff, would be interesting, but in reality hardly feasible. Setting would be a mix between Leone and early American western. Perhaps the main story would be a big cowboy vs indian conflict where you help shape the future of the people but not so much in being able to prevent the oncoming government stranglehold on the land. Then, of course, a vampire game in modern day with real world locations like VTMB would be very, very welcomed and an easier sell than a western. Traditional western or modern vampire. Make it happen... pfft, yeah right. Post-acrapolyptic/medieval it is...
  18. Would rather have Origin installed than Wasteland 2, Shadowrun, and probably PoE. Yawn.
  19. Just replay Bloodlines for the thousandth time. It'll probably still be more fun.
  20. If this was school this would be the moment where you would be told "sit down, you failed" . If this was work this would be the moment where they tell you to "go back to school". I'm sure, if the course were Tr00 Rpg 101.
  21. "In any given situation, my character's success or failure depends on HIS skills, HIS abilities, HIS strengths" All skills given to him by you, the player. By your own logic, that isn't a true RPG, as you interfered with the process. You need to hit 'auto level' next time if you want the true RPG experience.
  22. I didn't like Geralt(mostly because the English voice acting was bad), but the Witcher 1 was a good game in spite of that. Funny that the same elite user, clearly above the casual gamer, is also writing off one of the more complex games simply due to some personal gripes.
