Yuppie 911 Personal Locator Beacons
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33470581/?GT1=43001 Hikers are tackling more dangerous trails they otherwise wouldn't thanks to locator beacons becoming easier for the general populace to afford. I think these people should be fined for the use of these beacons if the call is not an emergency.

What Are You Playing Now?
One of the very rare instances where a video game tie-in completely blows its movie counterparts away. Speaking of movie games I'm getting more and more excited about the new AvP. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/alien-te...aliens-vs/57806

Credit Cards, what are they good for?
- So Fallout 3
That is true, but its also the case for most RPGs in recent memory. Even NwN 2 has a point where you can work for the guard or thieves and you end up taking the same quests with slight changes and dialogue and the same outcome. I don't remember the last modern RPG where you could do something with real negative consequences.- What has science done?
Heh, it is. Not as much as you would think though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_Spider- What has science done?
That HAS to be some sort of photoshopped image. It looks like one of those cute creatures you see in any sort of anime that makes stupid baby noises.- So Fallout 3
I still don't understand the 'it's not an rpg' arguments. Many quests have a number of ways to complete them with violent and non-violent solutions and plenty of dialogue options.- Brutal Legend - Tim Schafer's new project

As a single player game it isn't as good as RE4, but it MORE than makes up for it due to the awesome coop mode.- Brutal Legend - Tim Schafer's new project
I have yet to find a song as perfect for that as Kickstart my Heart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTXbx0zyt_Q.- Yahtzee reviews
Can you really call them QTE though? If they are then those are exactly what QTEs SHOULD be. When the wall tentacle grabs you, you still have complete control of your aim for instance. Also, while I generally hate button mashing, it made perfect sense when all those little parasites latch on you and Isaac starts shaking like mad to get them off. I hate them when a game wants you to bash a button every time you want to lift a grate or something. When I think of QTE I think of cutscenes with no control other than 'simon say's press this button now or die'. Absolutely horrendous in Resident Evil 4 PC port as the jackasses who ported the game didn't bother to change the on screen prompts to keyboard buttons. Not only that, but on the harder the difficulty you had to mash a key to run from a boulder at a ridiculous carpal tunnel speed or you had to react to onscreen prompts a millisec after they appeared. The idiocy of QTEs is that the player no longer has their attention on the story being told or the cool action on screen. They are focusing on a tiny part of the screen waiting for a button prompt so they can mash it like a lab rat whacking a button for a treat.- Yahtzee reviews
Only QTE in a game that I actually liked are in Tomb Raider Legend. Easy enough that you don't need to play through multiple times to get a pattern down and if you fail you get to watch Lara get hilariously mauled/mangled. Only game I actually replaid sections with QTE just to watch her deaths.- Uncharted 2
Uncharted 2!? More like Uncharted POO! Bah, who am I kidding... jealous 360 player.- So I got to thinking about games communities, Intellectual Property....
You are so gonna burn! "Am I? but I believe my JA reboot would make more money, I have the market data to back it up. I don't need the all the old fan's, it's a total win!" JA is a game very close to alot of peoples hearts... But I genuinely think a company could take the IP, screw with it, and make a more widely appealing game. That's the kind of thing I'm on about, I believe they would have to do that to truly be successful. Ala FO, OFP, DX etc... Are JA fans any more hardcore than FO fans? 'Cause I didn't think it got more rabid than FO fans. Also, I don't think Invisible War was as successful as Deus Ex, though the upcoming DE3 may do better.- Brutal Legend - Tim Schafer's new project

Cool, I guess that means I can stop scouring the landscape in fear of not having everything by the end of the game.- The Human Centipede
Well, yeah. Really, other than winning the bat**** crazy mad scientist award, what is the point?- The Human Centipede
I've heard of being desperate to get into Hollywood but being stuck mouth to bum... can just imagine the lead of the centipede letting one rip.- So I got to thinking about games communities, Intellectual Property....
Off the top of my head I can only think of one game that received a sequel 'dumbed down for consoles/multi-platform release' that was received negatively by BOTH the elites and the more casual gamers. Deus Ex Invisible War. Most franchises seem to have made the transition extremely well (sales wise) despite pissing off the hard core fans.- Brutal Legend - Tim Schafer's new project
I love, LOVE the scenery in this game. Its like, as you may have heard it described in previews before, a crazy heavy metal fantasy painting come to life. Ozzy Ozbourne is ****ing hilarious in the game and is shockingly coherent. I still think they must have shot him of with adrenalin before each recording to bring him back to life because I could actually make out each word he said. Combat is fairly straight forward at the start, but becomes more and more complex as you unlock new combos and moves. So far, I've spent most of my time just exploring the landscape and doing side quests. There are a few meh jokes in there, but many also had me laughing long after. I especially like the history orbs you can find to learn about the crazy land's past. Cons so far: -The pop in sucks. For scenery and such it looks like it comes in at about 100 feet ahead. I usually don't notice/care about this, but in 2009 its disappointing. I think GTA IV spoiled me. -The side quests are repetitive. So far I've found hunting, ambushes and races against a demon which repeat themselves with little to no change in dialogue. -The lack of jumping. Not a huge deal but it just feels weird approaching an incline that isn't very far up and not being able to hop up it. The game is kind of like a mix of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (exploration, playing music at locations for bonuses/unlockables), Sacrifice (RTS elements) and Heavy Metal (the music of course, but also the 81 movie).- Brutal Legend - Tim Schafer's new project
Very cool. I'm going to pick it up at midnight release but no fancy party or anything (that I know of).- The funny videos thread

The Nobel Peace Prize should stand for something a little more... nobler. The prize has been a joke for a long time unfortunately. - So Fallout 3
