Wolfenstein. Its the exact opposite of what I expected. I expected an absolutely awesome multiplayer with a ho-hum single player. The single player is shockingly good and the multiplayer is a huge disapointment. It doesn't build on Enemy Territory or Quake Wars and instead is more a direct sequel to RtCW multiplayer (Smaller maps with fewer objectives). Not only that but the Covert Ops and Field Ops classes have been removed. Instead the soldier gets sort of a 'magic' variation of the Field Ops air strike, the covert ops' satchel charge and the engineer gets the field ops' ability to pass out ammo packs. You also no longer play as Americans vs. Germans but instead play as Resistance Germans vs. Nazi Germans so no American weapons at all. Its still fun, just not the epic update I was hoping for. Also on weapons: It pisses me off that you can't use American weapons in the single player atleast. The box cover shows BJ with a thompson on the back and in game at various weapon shops you can see American guns like the BAR, Colt 1911 & Bazooka but can't actually use them. Either they are saving these guns for DLC, the weapons were cancelled or they are just a bunch of teases. One thing especially nice for those tired of seeing no redeemable qualities for Germans in WWII games is that you work very heavily with the German resistance in Wolfenstein. In fact, BJ is the only American in the entire game, not including the director and his assitant in an opening cutscene. The game takes place in a large German town and feels more like a civil war. There are also Russians in the game but they are part of an occult group and seem more interested in studying occulty things. The shooting in the game just feels right with tight controls and the weapons feel great. Game is also quite brutal, which shouldn't be too much of a surprise as the game comes from Raven (Wolverine game & Soldier of Fortune games). The veil powers are an interesting addition to a Wolfenstein game. They basically give you magic powers. Your amulet allows you to see this other dimension, highlighting enemies, almost like a supernatural night vision. It also features the mandatory bullet time mode, a shield and a quad damage like empower mode. Each mode drains power which can only be regained by standing in veil pools scattered throughout the game. It may sound a bit corny, but these powers become vital in harder difficulties and are actually fun to use. I don't like that they added some powers to multiplayer though. The single player makes enemy veil users farely rare and yet multiplayer features all the single player average soldiers with their own veil powers. Soldiers get Veil Strike, basically a magic version of an airstrike from previous wolf mp games. Engineers get Veil Speed (run faster), basically turning them into a scout like class. Medics get veil heal which slowly heals buddies within a certain distance.

They should have simply kept the system from Diablo 1, you die and you have to reload from your last save. I don't know why Bliz had to go to two extremes... respawns or one life and game over. Even worse, all the copy cats took the blizzard respawn system into their action RPGs.

Mass Effect 360: New DLC available
GreasyDogMeat replied to GreasyDogMeat's topic in Computer and Console
"Is it for free?" Its 400 MS points (5 bucks). "Did you gain XP? The top level is 60." No I didn't gain points, however I loaded a first time through character at level 50. You can NOT reach level 60 until you have beat the game once and then started a new game+ with the same character. After beating the various challenges you do get the chance to do one more survival mission in a new arena (only 3 very small arenas, Volcano, Tropic & Subteranean, most looking like areas you have already explored in game). This last mission is insane as you have to survive for 5 minutes against an ever increasing massive swarm of enemies. Most enemies I've seen in Mass Effect at once. If you survive the admiral gives you his retirement home. You can visit at any time to restock on grenades and med gel. You can also use a computer to listen to elevator music (yay ) or pay certain amounts of money to traders to get some random item. Think Diablo where you would spend a certain amount to reach into a grab bag where you could get something cool or a piece of junk. One other positive I'll mention is the space station has a very cool view of a ringed saturn like planet with lots of debris around it. -
Mass Effect 360: New DLC available
GreasyDogMeat replied to GreasyDogMeat's topic in Computer and Console
Yup, Bioware decided if Bethesda could release Operation Anchorage, they could too. Pinnacle Station is basically a multiplayer mode without the multiplayer. You play in 4 different multiplayer inspired modes to try and beat the game's best time. Hunt (Kill as many enemies to build up time, kind of like Resident Evil 4 or 5), Time Trial (Rush through a combat scenario as fast as possible), Capture (Run to a point and stand within it for certain time to 'capture it', then run to the next) and Suvival mode (a nonstop horde of enemies comes at you getting stronger over time and you see how long you can survive). Why didn't they actually add multiplayer to this game? I can really see Survival mode being fun with a coop buddy. One especially annoying thing about this DLC is that the head honcho of this space station is constantly praising or berating you. "STOP WASTING MEDI GEL, OOO HE'LL FEEL THAT IN THE MORNING". Even worse, I've taken the highest score in some of these events and this guy taunts me at the end as if I failed miserably. The highest time in Survival mode was a minute and a half and I made it for 13 and he talks about how I should be embarassed for that time. This is either a glitch or this guy is a tool. About the only redeeming quality of this DLC is that it seems like a great place to practice combat. Even then its a fail because you A: are required to be a Spectre before you can come to this base and B: This DLC is released so far after the initial game most people will already have mastered combat by now. I wonder if this atleast features some kind of online leaderboard so people could compete for top scores. I loaded my level 50 character before beating the game, so I don't know if you earn actual XP for defeating enemies in the simulations. If you do, this would be a great place to xp farm. Not exactly one of the better parts of RPG games. -
Theres a new DLC available for Mass Effect (talk about a long time after release) available under the Best Bet section (not the usual New Game Content section). "Test the limits of your combat prowess on a top secret Alliance Space Station". Not sure what to expect. Some sort of combat simulation? Actual role playing?

What I was worried about. Are the ten minutes atleast worth the two and a half hours? Cause they weren't in Death Proof...

The Demolition Man review was awesome.

I hope you only put prime meat in your GF, and not just any old meat off the street.

Favorite RTS and why do you like it
GreasyDogMeat replied to tubgoatstugboats's topic in Computer and Console
Not a big RTS fan, but my favorite would definitely be Sacrifice followed by D&D Dragonshard (Mix of RTS with RPG elements). -
North Korea: Great Country, or Greatest Country?
GreasyDogMeat replied to lord of flies's topic in Way Off-Topic
LoF, why do you even live in America? This bourgeoisie, stifling country must be HELL for you! Why have you not saved up enough rubles to move to Cuba or Iran, the land of puppies, rainbows, lollipops and individual freedom? You could even sneak across the southern boarder into Mexico. Even IT is a better place to live. I think its because you are great man! You wish to educate all the blissfully ignorant Americans about how horrible their lives really are! Keep up the fight brother! -
Bioware/Bethesda appreciation thread
GreasyDogMeat replied to WILL THE ALMIGHTY's topic in Computer and Console
Bioware - While I hate their direction lately, they did make Baldur's Gate, the Infinity Engine, Neverwinter Nights and Knights of the Old Republic, some of the best RPGs. I also do enjoy Mass Effect for what it is. Bethesda - Fallout 3 rocks. It aint perfect of course, but I had a blast with it. -
Rise of the Footsoldier. I'm not sure what the point of the movie was. Its based on a true story (meaning it probably has little to do with the actual events) about some soccer hooligans who become drug dealers and are eventually killed in their range rover. The movie spends most of its time portraying these people as absolute human waste. Murder, assault, torture, stabbing people up the ass who look at them funny (no I'm not kidding), then near the end, they replay their deaths in various 'what if' scenarios about who could have killed them. Who cares? It seems like its less of a question of 'who is guilty' but 'who do we thank' for offing these jerks?

Ease back on that positive attitude Mr. Sunshine! Sheesh, if you were any sweeter you would send me into a diabetic coma!

Wolfenstein! Out tomorrow. Actually, today since its after midnight, but stores don't open for another 8 hours. Wolf & Wolf ET multiplayer gave me YEARS of entertainment.

Shame the PC port sucks, cause I'm loving it on my 360. I especially enjoyed The Lost and Damned.

Whats the big deal about these games anyway? They just look like an entire game of nothing but quicktime events set to music. Am I missing something?

Oddball Questions
GreasyDogMeat replied to Darth Sithari's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
When Mike shags a hot babe do we get to rhythmically move the thumbsticks ala Hot Coffee? -
I do miss the old days when manuals were as thick as tree trunks and required the entire tree to make it. It was great reading all the backstory while waiting for installation progress bar to finish up hours later. Good times.

I'd be interested to see a Dark Sun CRPG. I've yet to get around to playing the Dark Sun DOS game from the 90s or it's sequel. Guess there was also a MMO but it was either not finished or failed massively. http://www.mobygames.com/game-group/dark-sun-series

Very cool! My first playthroughs of Deus Ex were always violent. I remember how awesome it was when I finally tried stealth and had various big name characters show up later that I had previously always killed. Hoping Alpha Protocol will reward Jesus Mike with a fare share of 'Thanks for not killing me!'s and 'You made a mistake for not finishing me the first time!'s.

Brutal Legend - Tim Schafer's new project
GreasyDogMeat replied to funcroc's topic in Computer and Console
Completely agree. I made the mistake of missing out on Psychonauts, until it was free on Gametap and I don't want to make the same mistake with this game. -
Awesome/interesting games no one has heard of

I was just gonna say it looks like a mod for Commandos or something. -
