I'm interested in the game and I don't mind the fact they are using a classic story and changing it into an action game... that said... this is a joke right? If not...

Sigh... a well spoken critic of Fallout 3 and all the senseless ragers drive him/her off.

Pron Star says games are "worse" than porn...

What a stupid walrus. Especially coming from someone who has appeared in violent movies that 'kids might watch' like Boondock Saints. I did love the part where they killed him in the movie. -
Wow... this is what you call a necropost!

Good post! Agree on most points, my only real point of contention being that F1/2's sidequests were better. I personally loved F3's sidequests and, for me, they saved the game from the horrible main story. The main story actually started out pretty good. I liked the father character, and was motivated to find him. It ended up taking a nose dive somewhere around the middle of the main story.

I hope we can shoot Subject Zero... numerous times... in the face.

Wait, Jade Empire, with 3 skills and a simple rock. paper, scissors fighting mechanic makes Baldur's Gate look shallow and dumbed down!? I'll leave Mass Effect be, as I actually enjoyed it. I actually agree with Boo on a number of his problems with ME, but I was able to overlook them and find a good game.

Do they 'test' them in the store before shipping them out?

I knew there was a reason that even adults could enjoy Pixar movies... and there it is.

While I understand where you are going... homie... I also like it when devs try something new. We would never get something like Planescape Torment or KotOR 2 if devs weren't willing to try and 'give us spaghetti when we ordered pizza'. KotOR 2 is about as un-Star Wars as you can get... yet it has the most mature and interesting story I've seen come from the IP. Yeah... sometimes it turns out to be a flop, or horrible for the fans. I personally love what Beth did with F3, but I can understand why some get their panties in a twist over it. I get mine in a twist about what Infinity Ward has done to change Call of Duty with the sequels, but I can't argue that it hasn't worked for them, as they keep selling more and more with each new game. I don't really have too much sympathy for people who complain about F3. Atleast those that played and hated Oblivion. After Oblivion I expected almost nothing from Fallout 3, except that modders would eventually craft a decent game out of the base, as was done with Oblivion. I was HAPPILY wrong about Fallout 3 and found a game I loved.

LOL, and you wonder why the people who enjoyed F3 use the so-called straw man argument of 'Oh, so you just want a carbon copy of F1/2?'. Hey, something else we agree on atleast... I wanna see that trailer too!

Its more along the lines of 'I'm not going to bash a game with a sledgehammer for doing it like everything else does these days'. I wasn't looking for a Renaissance with Fallout 3, I was hoping for a FUN game and that is what I got. My 'fun' level was actually around that of playing the original for the first time. I know... shocking...

What D&D games have you played?
GreasyDogMeat replied to GreasyDogMeat's topic in Computer and Console
The only reason I didn't put PoR: Ruins of Myth Drannor in my hated list is because at least it wasn't 'tear your hair out' frustrating. I don't think I've ever hated game characters more than I hated the damn villagers in Shadow Sorcerer. Every in game day they have a meeting and bitch about your leadership. They want to go back, or they are hungry or they refuse to move or they think you should go this way or that way. Look... people, I'm the one with the sword and spells! Just shut up and follow me! -
Can you really call Wolfenstein a sandbox game? Its more of a hub system that has been done since Quake and Hexen. Completely agree about Wet. Tried the demo and it was just a hodge-podge of ideas thrown together badly. Boo for RE5 negativity! The very first thing any player should have done in RE5 was host/join a coop game. I've played RE5 more than any of the previous games thanks to the incredible coop mode.

I'm currently in the process of playing through Eye of the Beholder. I got to thinking about the various D&D games I've played over the years... the good and the bad. What have you played and enjoyed or hated? Note that I'm including ANY D&D licensed game... not just ones that would be classified as a RPG. There are some RTS, beat 'em ups, 1vs1 fighters and even a dragon flight simulator on the list. The Best, Cream o' the Crop -Shadow Over Mystara: While it is pretty much D&D in name only, it is one of the best of the side scrolling beat 'em up genre that Capcom was popular with in the 90s. -Planescape: Torment: Probably the best writing in a game... ever! -Baldur's Gate I + Expansions & Baldur's Gate II -Icewind Dale + Expansions & Icewind Dale II -Neverwinter Nights + Expansions & Premiums: OC was lackluster, but expansions and user made modules more than made up for it. -Neverwinter Nights 2 + Expansions -Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday: Yeah it isn't D&D exactly, but it uses the same rules, with slight variations for a sci-fi setting. -Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I & II Not one of my absolute favorites, but still Excellent -Warriors of the Eternal Sun: Especially good for it's time and platform (sega gen). -Tower of Doom: The original Capcom beat 'em up. Shadow of Mystara was much better, but this was still a very fun game. -Dragonshard: Enjoyable RTS game. -Pool of Radiance: Along with Hilsfar, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades & Pool of Darkness this forms an epic series. -Pools of Darkness Ok games. I'm in no rush to replay them, but I had a decent time with them. -Cloudy Mountain: Ancient game on the Intellivision. Simple but addictive game. -Order of the Griffon -Curse of the Azure Bonds: Along with Secret of the Silver Blades, didn't enjoy quite as much as Pool of Radiance/Darkness. -Secret of the Silver Blades -Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance -FR: Demon Stone Ugh games. Struggled through these. I might give them a second chance... some day. In NO hurry to though. -Temple of Elemental Evil -Hillsfar: A collection of minigames that will boost your character between Pool of Radiance & Curse of the Azure Bonds. Only reason to go through it is for the bonus xp & hp. -Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor: Ruined by having to fight the same group of enemies over and over and... The horrible. These tried my patience to the limit. -Treasure of Tarmin: Intellivision 'sequel' to Cloudy Mountain. Its actually more true to D&D... but it also has much less pick up and play fun as CM. -Heroes of the Lance: Along with Dragons of Flame & Shadow Sorcerer part of a Dragonlance trilogy based on novels. Pretty horrible games. -Dragons of Flame -Shadow Sorcerer: This one is especially awful, as the whole premise involves guiding a group of survivors to safety. Only the survivors do more to fight you than the monsters... and you lose if too many die. I frankly found a bit of enjoyment getting them slaughtered even if it meant I had to restart the game over and over. D&D games I have NOT played. I may play these in the future. Or not... -War of the Lance -Dragon Strike -Krynn Trilogy (Champions, Death Knights & Dark Queen) -Eye of the Beholder Trilogy: Currently playing the original. -Gateway to the Savage Frontier -Treasures of the Savage Frontier -Neverwinter Nights (the 90s original) -Neverwinter Nights Mobile -Buck Rogers: Matrix Cubed: Played the original... looking forward to this one. -Spelljammer: Pirates of Realmspace -Dark Sun Online: Crimson Sands -Dark Sun: Shattered Lands -Dark Sun 2: Wake of the Ravager -Dungeon Hack -Fantasy Empires -Stronghold -Unlimited Adventures -Al-Qadim: The Genie's Curse -Menzoberranzan -Iron & Blood: Warriors of Ravenloft -Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession -Ravenloft: Stone Prophet -Slayer -Deathkeep -Blood & Magic -Heroes -Stormreach -Birthright: Gorgon's Alliance -Descent to Undermountain: Never able to get this one running. Glitchy pile a... -Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II -Baldur's Gate Mobile -Tactics

That is pretty much standard for any modern RPG.

When it comes to Fallout, this may be one of the things we both whole-heartedly agree on. Its simultaneously hilarious and disgusting when I see people write about how Obsidian will ruin Fallout or make a worse story.
-
Great game, wish they would make a new one though. Mass Effect with a decent rule system. I never played the sequel though. Maybe I'll try it after I finish the Eye of the Beholder trilogy...

You could have atleast posted a link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RjMSWhGWak

A troll thread got off topic!? Oh noes! You should bring up your balls of steel more often.

Who WAS satisfied with that? The game IS about 120 hours long with all 5 DLC and that 5 seconds, along with the latter part of the main story didn't kill the entire experience.

It was a terrible movie of infinite boredom... Oh, and my personal favorite quote... 'Wherever you go, there you are'.
