  1. At first, yes they would. But over time populations expand out to less and less favourable lands. Also availability of water changes over time and with environmental degradation, but traditional land ownership/access rights don't change along with it. Nomads are increasingly restricted in their movements by some governments and settled populations, and their access to traditional land is being cut off. They have to go where they can, and that's often the least suitable land. Either that or abandon their way of life and culture. Seven hours is not unknown. It's often the women's job to get the water, but travelling so far carries risks for anyone.
  2. I loved (still do, I guess) John Wyndham, and I recommend The Chrysalids and The Kraken Wakes, too. I'm currently reading the 2005 EFA Global Monitoring Report, and what a hoot it is! For 'fun', somebody gave me a biography of Bill Clinton, but if it doesn't pick up soon, I'm giving up.
  3. Steve is me, of course, and Thai Binh is the Vietnamese town where I was living when I joined the Bioware boards, so easy to remember. My avatar is not, as Lucius would have you believe, a bespectacled blue-rinse nightmare granny from hell, but is in fact Nintama Rantaro, trainee ninja from the very cool Japanese anime of the same name. My sig was a thing I heard on the radio - I liked it for satirising both the way big games companies advertise their products and the way charities present images of the poor in order to get our money.
  4. Excellent! So it looks like the movie is still very early in (pre?) production, which is why it didn't show up on IMDB. From the looks of it, there's a very good chance it will actually happen.
  5. Useless information: You mean my avatar? That's a trainee ninja hood, you fool!
  6. According to wikipedia, Irn-Bru is illegal in the US as a banned substance. My mum used to give me flat Irn-Bru as medicine when I was sick.
  7. Sprite just makes me thirstier (even more so than Pepsi, Fanta or the like). Don't know why. The best drink ever is Melon Soda, available from the best vending machines in Japan.
  8. It's better on the radio. But then, what isn't?
  9. Sounds like good roleplaying to me. Myself, I don't have the patience for traps.
  10. All guns should be pink with flowers stenciled on them.
  11. I always thought Random was a nice name for a girl. And I think the random loot generator could have been a bit less random, especially in not repeating itself. Do I really need five Onasi blasters, or whatever it was?
  12. As in spatula, yes. And I did notice it, and I did hang around the bridge for a while desperately seeking the way to fly to the Star Forge - I suppose it was left deliberately as a red herring.
  13. That's nice to hear.
  14. Good luck!
  15. Carl Nielsen's symphonies. Wonderful violent abrasive Danish classical music.
  16. There's been no information for a long while, so this is just speculation, but... For a bug fix patch, probably never, I'm afraid. There's no indication that one is being worked on. For a better music/movie patch, well, it's been with LucasArts for well over a month now and they show no signs of releasing it. It might come out sometime over the summer, but sadly, it's looking increasingly like this will never be released either. Sorry I don't have better news for you.
  17. Too many characters. Killing some off would make sense, if they didn't just bring them back to life in the next movie. I freely confess I haven't paid any attention to it, but least I heard, Halle Berry was refusing to take part in the next one. What changed her mind?
  18. According to the link, this symbol attracts tormented people to the wearer. I'm wondering, is this a good tattoo to have? I mean, you could just be walking down a normal high street and end up with half a dozen random malcontents trailing after you.
  19. Shame on you all, spreading nasty untruths. They should have worked harder on disguising the hair, I think.
  20. Moderately useless information: With all the fuss over the new Pope I think they said that Latin's still used as a spoken language sometimes within the Vatican (though presumably Italian is the main language). Worrying information: Depending on how you define 'language', there are between five and ten thousand languages spoken in the world. Within a few decades, that could shrink to 600 or less.
  21. Not real, I think. http://images.ibsys.com/2000/1018/116114.jpg Small, but I think it's the same background.
  22. I think the training as a Jedi dialogue is triggered by the third fight, and you can't do it before, no matter what your influence level is. The bug doesn't hit everyone and it doesn't hit all the time, but it's there. Still, if the fix mentioned above works, then no problem.
  23. Interesting. There's an excellent short story called The Aleph by Jorge Luis Borges, and I never got the reference until now.
  24. Rote learners may be able to calculate distances in space, but can they tell you how many yoghurt pots will fit into a cardboard box? I spent four weeks of my GCSE (age 14) working that out.
