Do you ever feel guilty?
SteveThaiBinh replied to mrchallenge's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Kotor 2 was inconsistent - it did have some sophisticated evil moments, like breaking Hanharr's will, but a lot of thuggery as well, and not always a choice. It's a lot of work for the writers to ensure that every encounter has a lawful evil and chaotic evil path. But isn't this a criticism of every CRPG except Planescape: Torment , which was criticised for having too much dialogue? -
Question on storyline writers of KOTOR 1 & 2
SteveThaiBinh replied to Eddo36's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
As far as I know, there are zero women working for Obsidian (correct me if I'm wrong). I think it shows. -
Apparently it is - to your psychological health, at least. This study showed that soldiers get healthier if they are sent into battle (unless they get wounded or killed, of course).

Kotor 3: Ideas and Suggestions
SteveThaiBinh replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Either would work really well and the relationship between master and apprentice would be really fertile ground for some good storytelling. To have both in one game might be too much for the writers, though. I'd go with the evil option - everyone starts the game as a Sith apprentice, and you have the choice to go along with the dark side or to rebel and go off in search of the Jedi. -
The most useless character
SteveThaiBinh replied to Flamethrower's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I liked Mira, but the special rocket launcher thing never worked for me. It just didn't seem all that special. Hanharr was more fun - if you're a darksider, then you get to be really really nasty to him. Good roleplaying fun. -
I watched that once when I was ten and the chirpy theme music was so irritating that I can still remember it.

The most useless character

G0-T0 - superfluous. -
But...but...the 'z' is...the American spelling! You'll be writing 'color' and 'sidewalk' next.

Sorry about that - and I could easily be wrong (I often am about technical stuff). But it's good that you have a desktop, because getting games to run on a laptop is even more of a nightmare.

OK, this is what I think: I think the S3 Prosavage is an onboard video card. That means you don't have a separate video card - instead, there's a very basic video card built into your motherboard. The S3 doesn't have any separate RAM, so it's using 12Mb of the main computer RAM - that's why Kotor 2 can only find 244Mb. Kotor 2 can't run with an onboard card like this, I think. You need to get a new video card, a separate card like the Nvidia GeForce. You may also need more main memory. The game will run slowly if you only have 256Mb. 512Mb is better. Is your computer a laptop or a desktop? Most laptops can't run Kotor 2 at all, although I think a few people have succeeded.

Are you using Windows XP? If so, you can probably find your graphics card like this: right-click on the desktop, and choose 'properties'. Click on 'settings', and then on 'advanced', and then on 'adapter'. The name of your graphics card should be under 'Adapter type'. It probably has the word 'NVidia' or 'Ati' in it.

How many Mb of memory (RAM) does your computer have? What is the name of your video card?

Can't enter Ebon Hawk on Nar Shaddaa
SteveThaiBinh replied to SteveThaiBinh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
No problem, I just completed all the quests and after Goto's yacht, I could get back on board. -
A 1Mb connection in the hand is better than a 4Mb connection in the bush - or something like that. It's very easy to keep trying with the same company because you've already invested so much time and effort with them, but it may have been a mistake. This idea of 'We'll give you some free months but we can't record it on your file' - how can they implement it then? How will any other worker know that you should be getting four free months? I don't know anyone who's had a completely trouble-free time with a broadband ISP, but this is worse than most. Hopefully, they'll write to you and apologize properly - if they don't, I really recommend ditching them.

Don't worry - I had a short panic over this the first time too. What you need to do is click the 'switch characters' button on the load/save screen. It's there to enable you to play several characters at the same time without getting the savegames mixed up. It's actually a really useful feature.

Framerate slow down in Jekk Jekk Tar
SteveThaiBinh replied to spacecadet's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It's probably just the mist/haze. I'm trying to think of another area in the game where the same effect is used, so you can compare. There's the hot tunnel on Peragus where you have to wear the mining shield. Do you get the same problem there? I just got a really bad slowdown on Nar Shaddaa in the refugee area, when I looked out of the exchange guy's window, but I think that's just because so many small details become visible at once. -
Have you tried installing in Windows Safe mode?

Designer Ramblings: New Cast of Companions
SteveThaiBinh replied to Chris Avellone's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Interesting to read this. The developer post makes a good case for why Kotor 2 didn't use the same characters as Kotor 1 - and of course, the same case can be made for Kotor 3 not using the same characters as Kotor 2. It's one reason why the 'Empire Strikes Back' ending didn't work - because we know these characters aren't coming back. -
The true War of the Worlds fan is heading for Woking.

Undead headlice, perhaps?
-
Well, yes, I certainly don't plan to watch any of these movies, but then I don't think I've played any of the games. The problem is that if you like these games (and apparently some of them do have decent stories), and you think they might make good movies, then the fact that some rubbish director is cornering the market as the only producer/director who turns games into movies, that's a problem. I notice that games are finding it easier to get serious/famous actors to do voice-overs - maybe it's only a matter of time before the directors follow.

Framerate slow down in Jekk Jekk Tar

My card is NVidia, too, and I don't have a noticeable slowdown. Are you just wandering there or have you been summoned to meet Visquis? If the latter, -
Can't enter Ebon Hawk on Nar Shaddaa
SteveThaiBinh replied to SteveThaiBinh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
No, it's way before that - I'm just about to head back to the refugee sector to try to trigger this. I'm hoping that as this will also trigger the Ebon Hawk to be unavailable, then when I finish on Goto's ship everything will correct itself. -
I'm playing again (despite promising myself I would wait for the patch, but I might be waiting for ever, so...) For the first time, I've got the game officially patched AND installed some of the mods/fixes from the TSL Restoration Project website. I'm on Nar Shaddaa, and I can't get back into the Ebon Hawk (it says 'You cannot enter the Ebon Hawk at this time' or something similar). I can enter fine just before I do the pylons/ID codes quest for the port guy, then afterwards I can't. Has anyone else found this problem? (I don't really need to go to the Ebon Hawk now, so I'm tempted to keep playing and just finish Nar Shaddaa completely, in the hope that this resolves the problem. But what if it doesn't?)

In a Gamespot Q&A about Civilization IV, a designer said they had an 'official' fan suggestion book of 200,000 words. The sheer size of it apart, it makes sense. You gather all the suggestions you can and put them into the mix early on, along with designers' own ideas (which will naturally be the major part) and with the designers in control. It kind of validates the Kotor 3 suggestions threads here - if the developers of Kotor 3 begin work in secret (as happened with TSL), then these forums will be their major early source for fan suggestions. Chances are the developers will end up reading a reduced/summarised form of these threads.
