SteveThaiBinh replied to Archmonarch's topic in Computer and Console
Hey, I didn't get a ranting email threatening me with legal action. I feel all left out now. :'( -
I think I must be an idiot - I cannot see any file with .ocx. Do you mean inside the main download Pure_Pazaak_v100? Could you tell me the name of the file, please?

When I run it I get 'Runtime error 339 MSWINSCK.OCX or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid' Any ideas?

KotOR II Movie/Music Patch Coming Soon
SteveThaiBinh replied to funcroc's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
An expansion pack would indeed be a good idea, and could be justified by the inclusion of the high-quality movies and music. But: a) Obsidian isn't working on it - they've told us they've passed everything along to LucasArts. b) LucasArts already quashed the idea of an official 'content patch'. c) LucasArts has laid off lots of workers, and although it's now hiring again, it probably doesn't have the workforce to do this in-house. d) It's unusual to leave the announcement of an official expansion pack until so long after a game is published. e) Kotor 2 sold mainly on the X-Box, and I don't know how you would implement an expansion pack, as the disc was already full with the game proper. f) There'd be no reason not to announce it, even if it were only in early stages of development. The Restoration Project is still our last, best hope. -
The editing is always an issue - we don't know what the dead man was doing or what kind of threat he represented. However, if he was a serious threat, it's surprising that the US soldiers were so relaxed and amused by the events. What's the source of the video? Surely the soldiers realised that the video doesn't show them in a particularly good light - unless they really have lost all sense of humanity and decency, which is possible, too. So how did this video get released into the public domain? And is it just me or do they sound really young?

KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions
SteveThaiBinh replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Jodo, why is there a bullethole through my copy of Kotor2? -
Sea air. I grew up near the sea, but haven't lived there for a long time. Whenever I'm travelling to the sea, the moment when I get the first scent of the salt sea air has a more powerful emotional effect than any other smell.

There are a group of UK Members of Parliament trying to impeach Tony Blair at the moment. Maybe I should put them on to Sid Meier? However, it's a big problem in global warfare - the dead can't sue. -

His reply was: Here is mine: Dear Mr. Thompson Thank you for your reply. I suppose you didn't notice the .uk portion of my email address; a more appropriate suggestion would have been 'Tell your Member of Parliament'. One could equally argue that concerns over violence in video games should be addressed to members of parliament or congressman rather than to a lawyer such as yourself. The substantial point is leaders and governments are pronouncing violence and violent acts in Iraq to be lawful and justified; surely this is more likely to be a cause of violent behaviour in our children than video games. As you are clearly concerned that children should not be given the message that violent acts are acceptable, I hope you will direct your efforts to ensuring that your own government follows a policy which reflects your concerns. Yours sincerely Steve I honestly didn't know how to respond to 'duh'. As far as I'm concerned, it's not a word that someone who wishes to be taken seriously would use in formal correspondence. -

I sent this: Dear Mr. Thompson With regard to your interesting web site, I am writing to report a violent video game which has resulted in acts of extreme violence and multiple deaths. The game to which I refer is called 'Shock and Awe in Iraq', in which so far between 25,000 and 100,000 people have been killed, the majority of whom are civilians. It has come to my attention that the targets in this game, far from being the assemblage of pixels usually to be found in such entertainment, may in fact be real people dying very real deaths. In addition to the obvious harm done to the people of Iraq, it seems likely that there will be a significant and damaging impact upon children in the US and UK. Our children are being raised in a climate in which our leaders declare such violence to be acceptable and even virtuous. I urge you to do everything possible to ensure that this game ends immediately, and those responsible are brought to account for their crimes. Yours sincerely Steve I look forward eagerly to his reply, and shall post it should it come. -

It is to some. I expect these lawyers will want a full English translation of all Simlish in The Sims 2, so they can check for bad words. -
*sigh* I'm interested, but again I can't commit for the long term. It'd be great if you posted a short update/report after each session for interested readers. I'd quite like to follow the goings-on, and maybe if another game starts in the new year I could join that.

The most exciting/horrible moment in K2
SteveThaiBinh replied to <SP's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
There's a school of thought that says Nihilus' weakness was a plot point - he can drain the life from a planet, but after trying and failing to drain the Force from Mr. 'Hole in the Force' Exile, he was barely able to defend himself. It would have worked better if the other combat on the ship had been harder in order to make the contrast clear. My favourite moment was also the first jedification (of Atton) - because I found his story quite moving and I thought at the time it would lead to a real Jedi master/apprentice relationship developing. Guess I hoped for too much. -
Possible Bug: T3-M4 Joining
SteveThaiBinh replied to Marc-Ange Draco's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
XBox, eh? Is it modded? If so, that's your problem. If not, then it's probably a faulty disk, and that's not as uncommon as you'd think, judging by the posts on this forum. Go back to the retailer and get a replacement, I guess. -

Not doable. I don't want to say any more and spoil it, but you need to have T3. You have Atton with you. Can you click on T3 while Atton is your main character? I'd suggest you uninstall the game, defragment your hard drive, reinstall the game and reinstall the patch, all of this in case the CD starts skipping or the patch download goes wrong. It's a longshot, but worth a try. -
It's not the vulgar colloquial. It's a valid alternative meaning, I suppse. When I buy a pack of twelve colour felt-tip pens, the pack does not say "Eleven colour pens and one absence-of-colour pen".

I find this helps.

It seems the more international and multicultural a place is, the more the terrorists want to bomb it. Maximum media exposure, I suppose, but also that most extremists hate the idea of people who are different all living and working together.

Usually UK size 12, although sometimes 11 or 13 depending on the make. I have big feet. I don't care about that in itself, but it's always been such a pain to find decent shoes. In Viet Nam I had to get them especially made, and the shoemaker guy took five minutes to draw the outline of my foot on paper to get the measurement because he kept collapsing in fits of laughter. :'(
-
A single inappropriate capital letter and I'm left with an image of Flatus with a presidential plane strapped to each foot zooming across the skies. My favourite shoes are black leather ones, but much thicker and sturdier leather than most. I'm afraid I don't treat them too well, and they're coming to the end of their life.

interview with Peter Hirschman, vice-president of
SteveThaiBinh replied to Hircine's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Mean. Very very mean. If Kotor 3 is made, it will be due, in part at least, to the enthusiasm for it shown by people like Bastila. LucasArts would be unlikely to make a game that no-one was interested in. -
As you say, most people wouldn't know what to do immediately, and that includes me. Perhaps it shouldn't make a difference who the potential target is, but prostitutes and politicians can get themselves out of the way as well as I could. Little kids wouldn't have a clue what was going on. Plus I've been a teacher for seven years, so it's habit to feel responsible for other people's kids. In a crisis situation, that might click in, too.

Well sorry, but I happen to speak the Queen's English, rather than a bastardised version of a noble language <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Let's not go there. My favourite colour is primary green.

Unless you wanted to prove the point that no level of security is enough to stop you, which they very nearly did.

You could go as an artist (for flamboyance). Try this.
