  1. I have no skills in dancing, but I'm very good at finding reasons not to dance or appearing to be busy with something else.
  2. Tentacular rape, gruesome eye-socket pokings and now demonic Elder Gods imagery. It's been a hard day on the Obsidian forums, and it's not over yet. Nice pictures, though.
  3. Probably. Have you found a way to skip through the very long introduction?
  4. We know. We've been enthusing about it all day.
  5. I foresee mods that disable the adverts, and many happy lawyers.
  6. Yes, I can't wait. Don't fight it, I say. :D
  7. Take it off. Please.
  8. Precisely. Maybe you could link to a picture of the different hilts? If you do, I might be moved to vote, though I'm not making any promises.
  9. On a 12A classification? Sure, why not? The kids have had their minds turned to mush playing video games, what more harm can it do?
  10. I'd rather have a single fixed name that could then be included in the voiced dialogue. I don't think it's a barrier to role-playing at all. People's names have nothing to do with their character.
  11. The first scene of the demo (I guess is the first scene of the game) is a real crux moment, where every little detail will matter. For the game to be successful, much will depend on how the designer balances this kind of scene with others. Too many important, condensed scenes and the experience will be horribly short. We also need longer, story-developing chapters with fewer choices. I really really hope they get this right - this could be a genuinely innovative game, and that's always exciting. I still hate the left/right clicky thing. I know now what it reminded me of - last game I played with anything like this was Daley Thompson's Decathlon for the Commodore 64, and I got through three joysticks in a month before my parents took it off me. :'(
  12. Since Anarchy Online is advertising TV shows, there's scope for fantasy/sci-fi shows to advertise in RPGs - maybe a cameo appearance by King Kong in PNJ?
  13. Presumably you would keep a log. If it means written communication skills then fair enough.
  14. When you open most containers, the game generates the things inside randomly. But it's not completely random - it's based on your level. So a level 10 character opens a box and gets a Will +1 visor; a level 25 character opens the same box and gets a Strength +5 glove. If you use the Hsiss cheat to get your character to a very high level, then after that every container you open has a good chance of giving you some very nice items, including Jolee's Robes. Of course, it is still random, so there's no guarantee which nice item you'll get. But increasing your level increases your chances.
  15. Same here. Good demo. With this and Dreamfall in the works, it might be a good year for adventures. They need to do something about the interface, though - honestly, the left/right quick clicking thing is ridiculous. They also need to make sure there's a decent game to match the story. I just finished Still Life - nice characters, nice story, where's the game?
  16. Welcome to the boards. This belongs in the spoilers forum. Rather mild spoilers:
  17. If you try to have everything you could possibly have, you'll run out of space. Better to think of the kind of food you like or might want to cook, and go from there. Every kitchen needs a paella dish, however.
  18. Why would you need good communication skills?
  19. It'd be great if the ads cut the price of games. With adventures (and some traditional RPGs) part of the reason relatively few are made is that each game sells few units compared to other kinds of games. So again, if money from advertisers were used to make these 'minority' games more financially viable, I could put up with the ads.
  20. Is there a game where the protagonist must nobly sacrifice himself at the end? Like a heroic suicide? Send him that. If he kills himself, he won't be able to attack the games industry any more, but if he doesn't kill himself, he's disproved his own ideas that games influence your behaviour. What a dilemma!
  21. Link. To summarise, the MMPORPG Anarchy Online is about to feature in-game adverts for Panasonic and for the TV show Lost. The ads run for 15 seconds each time. This has been an issue for fans of upcoming adventure Dreamfall (from the same company, FunCom), because designer Ragnar Tornquist hasn't ruled these ads out, provided they suit the setting. It might be Minority Report all over again. With RPGs in fantasy or Star Wars settings, it would be hard to have ads that didn't clash with the setting, but a modern setting like Vampire: Bloodlines might have done something like this. I wonder if Obsidian is considering it for PNJ? I'd find it a total turn-off at first, but I guess like most things I'd get used to it. What do you think?
  22. Facade isn't really a game, but it's an interesting experience - an 'interactive drama' using AI to control the dialogue. Good luck with the parser.
  23. He was online yesterday, according to his profile. But he doesn't say anything, just like the devs. I think he's gone native.
