He's an actor, and I think a good one. I suppose he can 'do' the attitude if required, and if he has a decent director who asks it of him.

You're both right (I really have been hanging around these boards too long ). Lucas' declaration that Wookies can't be Jedi annoyed a lot of people because it came after there was a Wookie Jedi in EU. However, in canon terms, anything Lucas says trumps anything in EU. There aren't too many conflicts apparently, because he declared the whole Episode I-III era off-limits years ago, but there are some. Whether this means that the stories with this Wookie Jedi are now apocryphal, or he's allowed to remain canon as the exception that proves the rule, who knows? I think canon is overrated. Real history isn't canonical - lots of 'real' facts and interpretations are disputed. If they weren't, what would historians do all day?

Kurt Russell is in his fifties, and so supposedly is Canderous. He does have graying hair, after all. I guess Russell has played similar roles, too.

*Darts off to Gamespot, confirms that it's true* The future is closer than you think. Is Lockheed Martin sponsoring war games yet?

McDonalds is now so ubiquitous that it could probably appear in a D&D RPG and you wouldn't even notice. Fay Weldon, a fairly serious British novelist, accepted money to write a short book called The Bulgari Connection by the well-known jewellers who of course played a major part in the narrative. I don't think it's been repeated often, but this could easily transfer to games. General Motors could sponsor a driving game using only its cars. McDonalds will give us SimFastFoodRestaurantManager, or such like. The future is a scary place.

You know, that's another point against The Sims 2 - people die! It's shocking - it will distress the poor little children who're used to Disney films (Bambi excluded) and don't know that death really happens. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if he actually started saying this. He's really shot himself in the foot by going after The Sims, though - after all, lots of non-gamer types have actually played that. Even though the scary and corrupting content in GTA:SA can't be accessed without a post-purchase mod, it is still on the disc that was supplied. It's not the same as if a modder created naughty pictures himself and inserted them into the game. The game company is responsible - at least, it is now.

It's quite easy not to be that excited, after all we don't really know what we're getting, yet. I can be excited about Civ4, because I loved Civ3. Yes, really. As for Spore, I'm waiting for the demo before I care. I'm glad that someone is trying to do something innovative, but these things can go so badly wrong. I don't think so, at least not as much as The Sims did. It's still a game with a fair amount of combat and conflict at certain stages (this is according to Wikipedia), and that's a huge turn-off to a lot of people. Plus it's not as intuitively comprehensible to non-gamers as a real-life simulator.

Did The Sims (I mean EA) actually get paid for putting real brand names in, or were they just putting these things in to make the game more realistic? It never really occurred to me that it was advertising, which I suppose makes it a very effective form of advertising.

It's probably not legal to buy it from Canada directly, for various reasons including the fact that it hasn't gone through Canada's game/film classification system. Vendors like Amazon may actually block a direct purchase. On the other hand, if you have family or friends in the UK, you could easily get them to buy it and then mail it to you as a gift - that I think would be legal. I could do it myself if I'm still in the country around that time (for a small fee, of course " ). That said, movie DVDs are region coded, and Canada and the UK are in different zones - I have no idea whether this would affect DVD-ROM.

Yet the game has only been given a higher rating in the US, while being banned outright in Australia. I never thought of the Australians as particularly prudish, but it just depends on who manages to sneak which silly law through parliament. It was always rated 18 here in the UK, which is why it hasn't attracted so much publicity. You mean they shouldn't be judged on discarded content left on the disc? I suspect that in future all developers will be much more careful about cleaning up discs before release, to excise all cut content that might affect the rating, perhaps all cut content full stop, just in case. The TSL Restoration Project might be the last of its kind.

Saving Level-Ups Till Prestige Class?
SteveThaiBinh replied to DalinGranda's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The only NPC I ever save levels for is Mira, because it's possible to go so quickly to her jedification. All you have to do is be persistent in blasting Wookie-guy (wow, I haven't played this game for a long time, now I can't remember the guy's name ), then run to the door. As for the others, is there that much difference in combat ability between a level-8 soldier/level-9 guardian and a level-13 soldier/level 4 guardian? I didn't really notice much of difference as I was playing. Plus saving levels feels rather artificial to me, and I don't always do it for Mira, even. If you become a Jedi at level 12, then that's your destiny, don't fight it! Edit: Poor Atton. Two blasts and he's dead. -
most weird cut seen 1 and 2
SteveThaiBinh replied to JediMasterNalik's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I don't much care for the cutscene/movie that introduces Visas, because it always appears at the most bizarre and surreal moment. I've just been said something nice to T3 on Nar Shaddaa then suddenly we're halfway across the galaxy on the ultimate bad-guy's ship, and I'm wondering 'What in the world did I do to trigger that? Is T3 an agent of the dark side now?' First time through was really confusing, though every time after that was fine. I know now that it triggers when you reach a certain number of DS or LS points, but I think they could have allowed it to appear only at certain points (like changing location) - that might have made more sense. -
Obsidian Forum Diplomacy Game 2 (OBS-2)
SteveThaiBinh replied to metadigital's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
That's very terrible news. I'm sure everyone on the forums would want to offer their condolences. Take care of yourself and your family in the coming weeks and months. Hope to see you back sometime in the future. -
Defensive build vs Offensive build
SteveThaiBinh replied to a topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yes. Towards the end of the game, your defense can get so high that you're hardly ever hit. However, for most of the game while you're at lower levels, I'd say offensive is better. -
You're right - it's usually called Bride Price. I'm just off to edit my post.

Saving Level-Ups Till Prestige Class?
SteveThaiBinh replied to DalinGranda's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Kotor 2 actually improves when you play it the second or third time, because it makes more sense. This is especially true if you weren't really paying close attention the first time, which is very common as most games don't require that you pay so much attention. Don't forget that you can usually get a broken disc replaced by the publisher or retailer. A lot of people just seem to throw them away and buy a new one. -
What music are you listening to right now?

Tonight's BBC Prom has Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, which always brings back memories of school, as well as The Pines of Rome. -
Saving Level-Ups Till Prestige Class?
SteveThaiBinh replied to DalinGranda's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
This is impossible. The game won't allow you to become a prestige class until you've achieved Level 15. I think Obsidian deliberately wanted to avoid saving level-ups. -
Chelsea Clinton is currently employed by the British government (she works for McKinsey, the management consultants ) to monitor our health care reforms. I bet she's getting paid more 40 goats and 20 cows-worth. If I paid tax, I would be quite annoyed.

Wow, big changes on the Obsidian forums while I slept. Congratulations, guys, and good luck. Interesting. I seemed to have spawned a thread about Eberron during the night. I wonder how that happened. -

Words to strike fear into the heart. I can't imagine that this is PNJ, since the deal for that was obviously signed a while ago. Could be wrong, of course. But you know a new Marvel game is going to be less 'hmmm, interesting character, difficult moral choices', and more 'ooh, cool powers, boom!!!'

What's a non-persistent RPG?
