  1. You could well be right - if they've improved Dungeon Siege as much as Battlewookie is saying, that suggests you are, as indeed does the fact that Diablo III has been pulled due to lack of quality. Interesting to see that Stargate: Alliance was pulled from its developer for the same reason. Is this a new trend in games publishing - from now on, games are going to be released that are good quality, QA tested, and finished?
  2. So bright colours and contrasts are distracting and difficult to concentrate on. Is this why there are so many lightsaber colours? Seven Jedi run to attack the Sith Legion, all with different colour lightsabers, and the Sith can do nothing but stand there blinking.
  3. They are? I would like to believe that Sacred was a bad dream, but the box on my shelf says otherwise.
  4. The Hee Bee Gee Bees. I remember 'Meaningless Songs' - I think I had it on a tape recorded off the radio as a kid.
  5. Are you saying that Dungeon Siege 2's story is on a par with Kotor 1's? Because I'll hold you to that. I've never played the Diablos or wanted to, as the consensus seems to be that the story is somewhat lacking. If they want to attract me, they'd have to change it radically, but since it was apparently very successful before, why would they change a winning formula?
  6. I wonder what it is...as PNJ seems to have a lead already, they're still advertising for a Senior Producer/Project lead and Mr. Sawyer has just joined, with the promise of leading future projects. I guess we'll look forward to newsletters when the curtains are raised on NWN2. It would be great if Obsidian could post them in this forum as well; I don't want to have to go trekking all the way over to Bioware for this. It's such a pain.
  7. Civ 4 Fahrenheit Dreamfall Oblivion Bone 80 Days NWN2 Maybe Dungeon Siege II, but I'll be reading reviews and waiting a while.
  8. No. I've never played the game (s?), but I occasionally see pictures here and there on the 'net. So I was wondering: underneath that hanky, does he have a bad case of Malak Jaw?
  9. Did you kill the Sacred Pigs of Ashbury? I always liked to keep Magnus with me - he makes a particular kind of axe (featherweight, or something like that) which is one of my favourite weapons in the game. He has more interesting interjections to offer than most. As for the balance thing, I always found the big imbalance was between melee and non-melee characters. The party gets XP for damage caused and for kills, but hugely more for damage and kills by your character than by NPCs. I like to play a ranger/mage character who hangs in the back and casts protection/fortification/healing spells on the melee fighters in front, but this game penalises that style heavily.
  10. Looks like a floor gymnastics routine, a lot of it. Are the Olympics a secret ninja training ground? He even does rhythmic gymnastics with a ball!
  11. It depends what you consider important information, and what your purpose in communicating is. If the purpose is to pass on information , conversation will be quick, but this isn't always the case; if it's to maintain a relationship or to understand how the other person is feeling, it will likely be longer. I have a (male) friend who talks incessantly about football, and I'm as good at zooming out from him as from my sister who talks about home improvements the whole time. You wouldn't want to let her loose on the 'favourite colour/how many colours are there?' thread because she could probably name them all.
  12. That's a question - supposedly the game decides the difficulty of your opponents according to your level. If you refuse to level up and keep playing the whole game at level three, would the game keep throwing you level three opponents? Or would it take into account your experience increases as well as your official level?
  13. Aurora's rebalance mod is supposed to make combat harder for non-combat specialising characters, forcing them to rely on other approaches. I'm sure there's also a mod somewhere to make combat as a whole tougher - check the mods sticky. Good luck.
  14. Hmmm... I like the way your companion chips in quite a lot, but I'd want to know if that keeps up through the whole game. Character interaction is quite promising. It's great the way you don't start alone - you're with your childhood friend, who seems pretty cool, and you're doing the mercenary thing together: we can look forward to the adventure and the continuation/fracturing of our friendship, the banter between our characters, he'll probably have a whole different take on the mercenary lifestyle, I wonder what his own goals and choices will be and oops, he's dead *sigh*. Still, not to worry, there's a generic NPC dispenser by the north lift... Voice acting is mediocre - I've heard worse, but I've heard a lot better. Difficult to see any kind of distance, especially as I was using combat magic. I wonder if they'll let you tilt the view a bit higher - I think my computer could just about handle it. So, I'm thinking, better than Dungeon Seige 1, but I'm not jumping up and down. I want to see the reviews, and that means the reviews that come out a month after release, as well.
  15. This was always something I really liked. It forced you to think and plan your characters, and to choose NPCs which genuinely complemented your own. Good role-playing fun.
  16. She has the skills to make tech healing items (looks a bit like a mortar and pestle). If she has them in her inventory during combat, she'll run around healing people. Any NPC who carries them will do the same, but she has extra healing skill and will get the most healing from each item used. You get the benefit just from having them in your inventory - you don't use them actively.
  17. Did you have to? Right after the previous post? I was eating when I read this.
  18. Agreed. A couple of times it got a bit annoying. There's one point in the game (no real spoilers, don't worry) where you have to find an item in order to further the main quest. I ran round and round, back to the quest giver, back to the place, hunting high and low for this item, only to discover that Virgil had picked it up. You don't - or at least, I never could. Whatever style you choose to play, they will fight in their own way. You could try giving them all ranged weapons, but they'd likely shoot themselves or each other if they don't have the skills. There are two or three fellow gunslinger NPCs, if you want to make a gang. I'll try to limit the spoilers for this: You're playing fairly tech, I take it. Virgil's healing spells will stop working after a while, and fortunately he has the sense to stop trying - an alternative tech healer can be found in: (town's name only) When you first arrive at Ashbury, don't start talking to people until you've had a good look round the city. Something's going on, and if you arrive in time, you'll get a bonus NPC. You do have quite a lot of time, though, it's not a huge race. In terms of story, Virgil has the best story and the most to say, so I always keep him. Vollinger and Torian Kel are also interesting, though the latter is tricky to find at first.
  19. The mushrooms mission was OK - it was good that you weren't told exactly where to go and had to search around a bit. There's also a nice part where you cross the top of the hills and the coastal lowlands open up in front of you, which for me was the first time to really appreciate the beauty of the game's landscape. It also helped me to stop worrying about straying off the official path for fear of triggering something in the wrong place and screwing up the main quest. There are games where you have to be so careful about that, but by this time I was getting the feeling that Morrowind was genuinely different. I think I heard somewhere that the cliff racer issue has been addressed, i.e. they're gone, and good riddance. Aside from the annoyance of the things, they seemed uniquely able to cause crashes on my system.
  20. OK, no problem. Found a UK server and the download will only be 90 minutes, which is better than 13 hours(!). I borrowed Dungeon Siege (the original) hoping that it would be decent, but I don't think I ever made it past the first town. It was probably the first modern hack'n'slash I'd ever played, having taken a long break from gaming and returned via Arcanum. I wasn't impressed. I'm now prepared to be more tolerant of them provided they have a decent story, so I hope this demo brings out some of the story and characters a bit. Soon find out. :D
  21. It was absolutely stunning - I was listening on the radio. It's such a classicly English thing to do, to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, that I had that familiar sinking feeling as Australia approached the winning total. And then the shock, and cheers. :D I don't think I really believed they had a chance to win the Ashes until then, and Australia are still the favourites, but who knows?
  22. That's quite a big demo. It's going to take hours to download, even with broadband.
  23. Singapore has the greatest variety of fruits in the world, I think. I went to a cafe, and the list of different possible milkshakes covered a whole wall. I wonder if that fruit costume was designed not to look like anything in order to get people talking about it, thus increasing the effectiveness of the advert.
  24. It would be really good, especially once PNJ is properly announced and they have two projects to talk about. It would also be good publicity, because I think sites like GameBanshee put the publication of new Bioware letters up as news, so it might increase awareness of Obsidian's projects.
  25. It's the End-User License Agreement. Every time you install a game, you click 'I Agree' to show that you have read it thoroughly and understood it. You mean you don't read it? Shame on you. Usually they say you're only allowed to install and use one copy of the game at a time. As soon as you install a second, LucasArts attack helicopters will swoop from the sky and drag you off to a fate worse than Attack of the Clones.
