What games are you looking forward to?
Really? (w00t) Wow, I take it back, then. I didn't realise they had announced that. Oblivion will be on PC. Will the PC version also come out in the autumn?

What games are you looking forward to?
I forgot those two. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Probably because they're such a long way in the future. I'm interesting in PNJ, but I can't say I'm looking forward to it, as such. I don't know enough about it.

Thanks. Very cute birdies.

An Interesting Proposition
I played D&D on a grand total of four occasions, until the DM decided he wanted to give up and be a regular player again, but no-one wanted to take over. I can't say I was overwhelmed by the (rather short) experience, but it would be nice to try again.

It's been a long time since I heard anything new about Gothic 3. Is there a good fan site for updates?

KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions
I doubt LucasArts would commission Kotor 3 for the sake of completing the trilogy. They'll commission it if they think it will make money, more money than the alternatives. Remember, they've decided to release no more than two games a year, and they've had some other successes recently that might spawn successful sequels.

Help me decide which game to play
There were indeed many scythes. Kotor 2 is an easy game. I've heard the Jade Empire is even easier, though I haven't played it.

Interview with Glenn Entis
I don't know about a person in charge, but most modern companies have a 'vision statement', garbled nonsense excreted by management and given to long-suffering employees. Hey, I wonder what Obsidian's vision statement is.

HELP!
...........ah Bao Dur can Be turn into a JEdi? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, but he's tricky. You need to increase his influence a lot, but the game doesn't offer many opportunities to do so (though you can use the 'influence guide' to help you).

Closing Threads
Yes, that's what I meant. Of course we shouldn't be able to override a mod's decision to close a thread. Hmmm, maybe. Worth a try, at least. I wonder how difficult these things are to incorporate into the forum software.

KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions
Thanks, Bastilla. I'm sure LucasArts haven't made a decision that Kotor 3 won't be made, because they would have let the news out by now. They're probably mulling it over. If their upcoming releases are flops, then those games won't get sequels and Kotor will. Hmmm, sounds like I'm advocating a boycott of non-Kotor LucasArts products. Of course I'm not! :D

Closing Threads
We have the ability to delete our own threads (in 'moderation options') - I'd like to have the ability to lock and unlock our own threads as well. It's frustrating to see a topic that you've made descend into the spam pits, and this might help to reduce spam and keep topics on track - sort of a 'time out'. If Fionavar or the other mods are in the mood for answering question, I'd like to ask how many 'reports' or PMs they receive on a typical day, and how long it takes to answer them. Thanks in advance.

London 'incidents'
Dummy bombs, they're saying - detonators only, no explosives. No casualties. Either there were no explosives attached or the explosives failed to go off. A lucky escape, let's hope.

Closing Threads
I sympathise, but you could quote his post in a new thread and respond there. That goes for Nur Ab Sal too, should he wish to respond to your post.

Story in games?
It's not really a prejudice, but it's probably an oversimplification. It's not too controversial to say that men and women tend to look for different things in games, just as they tend to look for different things in movies. I know women who like martial arts films and men who like soppy romances, but the tendency is probably the other way. It's better to look at it as a general issue of diversity. At the moment, the majority of gamers are young and male. As the gaming community becomes steadily more diverse, including older men as well as more women, the games should also become more diverse and well-rounded, because of the need to satisfy a variety of tastes. That's all to the good.

KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions
Two hours a day takes 20 days, or three weeks, to complete. I agree that it's a lot, but if publishers want to keep putting out shorter games they need to think about reducing the prices. I still think that it's shorter, clearer chapters within a game, rather than making the game as a whole shorter, that is needed to make games more accessible. The ending of each chapter, if well written, should give the sense of accomplishment you mention. It's a matter of designers rethinking the way the game is structured. It would be easier to implement in an adventure than an RPG, though. I don't see any problem with Kotor 3 following the same structure as 1 and 2 - but this structure may be on the way out.

KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions
Sadly, the trend seems to be in the other direction. Mr. Sawyer suggests it's because more gamers are adults who want to play in one or two-hour sessions, rather than teenagers who play all day.

So actually, having no deadline caused them to mess around a lot and produce something that wasn't viable, which they scrapped. :D Well, that's one possible interpretation.

I haven't played that, and now I think I never will. As for Duke Nukem Forever, it will be interesting to see if taking as long as they want will really improve the quality of the game. Not that I actually see myself playing it, but I will read the reviews. All the criticism of Kotor 2 is that it was rushed and suffered as a result, yet deadlines can have a positive impact on the creative process.

I wasn't ready for a game as awful as Sacred, but that didn't stop them releasing it. Have I mentioned that I didn't like Sacred?

The poles have flipped several times already. It might interfere with electrical equipment and possibly some bird migration patterns, but otherwise, you might not even notice it.

Closing Threads
It's possible that the policy is just to let threads die. If there's racist comment somewhere, but the thread is already on page 2 when the moderator reads it, then maybe it's just left. Or perhaps if the thread gets bogged down with spam and closed for that reason, racist comments might be overlooked or ignored. If that is indeed the policy, then I strongly disagree with it. I think any post with racist comments should be deleted, the poster warned, and the moderator should lock the thread with a clear statement that the reason the thread was closed was because of a racist post. What do you think - is that too harsh? It's a shame to lose an entire thread because of one idiot comment, but it's better than giving the appearance that racism, or any other form of discrimination, is tolerated.

Heavy rains may be part of it, but in the UK at least, river flooding usually has more to do with either too much concreted ground or cutting down too many trees, both of which reduce the ability of the land to soak up the excess water. Whether global warming-related or not, it's caused or at least exacerbated by human activity. I sympathise with local groups who blame weather events on global warming in order to persuade the public, but I think they're making themselves hostages to fortune. Every now and then there'll be a year without a hurricane or flood, and then their case collapses. That's not the way to persuade people of the nature of the threat.
