  1. For tonight's game between Canada and Finland, i bet that Canada wins by 4-2 or 5-2. Those canucks are just an unstoppable force this tournament.
  2. ^What is that? Is it a new Riddick game or something similar?
  3. They'd be voting against their self-interest unless every other state does the same. Legislative term limits are a good idea for the same reason presidential term limits are. It doesn't matter how talented one is if he's corrupt. Well, sure. But where's the evidence for the connection that you're assuming exists between time spent in office and corruption? Despite what Frank Capra would have you believe, I suspect that first-term legislators are just as likely to be corrupt as 20-year veterans (but somewhat less likely to be competent). I don't have hard statistics, but all the people I can think of who were accused of corruption were serving long term. I believe the maxim that power corrupts, and that once they start believing they're part of the ruling class they begin thinking they don't have to play by the same rules as us peons. Aside from corruption, if the terms were limited perhaps they wouldn't be so obsessed with keeping themselves in power, which to me is what's causing most of the problems in our political system. Why cannot the voters realize that the senator or congressman in question has become corrupt and simply vote for someone else?
  4. Either Russia or Canada will win the finals. Finland will get the bronze (as usual). Czeck Republic, Slovakia and Sweden are not impressive at all this year, while Latvia and Belarus are really catching up. USA is still the wildcard for me.
  5. Because it gives a sense of superiority against 'them', silly.
  6. I wasn't commentating about power, it was about the process of unionizing itself.
  7. Stop that. You're being very silly now. Empathy for the riff-raffs is unbecoming of an elitist.
  8. Ok, i understand the situation a bit more. As i see it, businesses in the US do not take for granted that their workers are part of a union, rather something that is created in the very workingplace later. Also, 'unionizing' in the US, compared to Europe seems to be a completely different process.
  9. Aristes and GD: thank you very much. I now have some reading to do Still a bit perplexed about the situation though; employers here usually doesn't even ask which union a employee happen to belong to, it is usually something taken for granted that they are already registered as a member of one. I countries, different way-of-working, i guess.
  10. Good. The glorious PC Gaming master race shouldn't mingle among simpletons.
  11. I am guilty of that ignorance. We have slashdot for having fun at MS' shady business practices (and Apple, Sony and Google as well). Where can you find any info on the healthinsurance/pharmaceutical industries and their business practices?
  12. Uhm, what's with the open ballots in trade unions or whatnot? Why abandon the option of secret voting? Anyone care to elaborate? Diatribes in the vein of silly-over-the-top-daily-mail-world-news-net-daily-sensationalism-HURRRRRR will be considered as rubbish.
  13. I am a graphic whore, therefore i exist
  14. Your lack of imagination saddens me
  15. Yes. But that would only be necessary if the Swedish Supreme court fails to recognize the judge's bias in this case. The European Court usually only step in when a state infriges a citizen's right to personal freedom. Some examples: - No state in the EU can forbid men for humping each other in the pooper. - The right to remain silent while being under arrest. - Sharia Law is incompatible with the European Charter of human rights, due to sexism against women.
  16. I guess that was directed at me since I might be the only one against it, 'Denmark, Britain, Sweden ect are well off with no debt' That is great but it doesn't help. The US is not in that financial condition, has 300+ million citizens and obscene debt. "There is no such thing as free lunch" True, UHC is payed through taxes of course. But IIRC, studies have shown that the healthcare costs are lower in countries with UHC, thus the government would save money. That's big would though, as i have no idea on the bureaucracy is in the US.
  17. I increased my monthly donation to Amnesty International from 5
  18. I hereby declare this thread to be worthy of hosting mod-related questions. - What kind of graphical enhancement mods do you people recommend for HL2?
  19. It's the free market, you can pick your customers as you see fit. Even if it is their prospects in health. I of course disagree that health insurance should go by the same principles as any other insurance. In before 'socialized medicine/collectivism/end of personal liberty/fascism/end of a free nation'.
  20. FoxNews. Seems like they have been hiring some more sane people.
  21. That's just a breather, a similarly difficult fight awaits at the entrance of the Grand Staff. Yes I know what you mean - that gigantic worm! Yeez... I tried everything! But there's no way I can bring that bugger down. First kill is easy, but when he resurrects, he already uses a full charge immediately. That's just unfair. No matter what tactics I use, there's always that little bit too much that brings my party down. I'm no further wasting time on that game. Don't give up so easily *sigh* Have any suggestions?
  22. Travel, intellectual discourse, snowboarding and downhillskiing. Sorry, no adrenaline-filled and mysterious advice can be found from this poster.
  23. Excellent
