  1. So.....those video games......anyone play them? Heard anything? No? I'll show myself out.
  2. Every teen should watch The Breakfast Club. Or read Catcher in the Rye.
  3. Death those who insult democracy!
  4. Inside Llewyn Davis Well for a movie about a striving artist that doesn't know where he is going and doesn't have a place to live, the movie is really about that. The plot is really thin when everyday is just part of a journey trying to find a gig or get some money. I find it understanding that people find this a bit boring or uneventful. But atleast like in other Coen's movies, the characters themselves are quite the character. However, the soundtrack is excellent. Who knew Justin T. could sing such good folk songs?
  5. Spot on. Her and Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind are the only two romantic movies that i've actually liked.
  6. Planning on overthrowing the government, are we? Let freedom ring with a shotgun blast!
  7. I'm not funny. I'm me.
  8. How do you watch such a video and come away thinking she has an 'utter lack of understanding'? What exactly does she say that you think indicates she doesn't understand, and what is it she doesn't understand? Enlighten me, as I'm finding it hard to not think most of what she said and presented flew right over your head. That girl is no sage by any means, but she's a helluva lot more with it than most. More awake than most of the folks in this forum, Obama likers or dislikers both. You, and most of the people here could learn a lot from her. Edit: Congrats on watching a video! I'm glad you did. It's a start! I do watch some video's but not around serious political discussion because of the lack of valid information and information you can confirm...but lets see why she has no clue what she is talking about. I'll just focus on some of what she said she says "Obama shouldn't have bailed out the banks". Despite the fact that the USA banking institutions have recovered from 2008 and almost all economic experts agree that intervention from the federal government was necessary to prevent a global depression She is convinced of the failure of Obamacare, yet we still need to see the result She says Obama expanded Bush's wars, yet the USA is out of Iraq and has a deadline in Afghanistan. Obama has done a lot to reduce the military investment in various conflicts around the world and has avoided starting other wars, like in Syria and Iran She thinks killing known Al-Qaeda operatives is wrong She thinks people like Snowden are heroes, despite the fact he comprised and still does the security of the USA She thinks that Obama personally doesn't want to close Guantanamo Bay Where in the USA have protests been criminalized ? She says that Obama and his fellow politicians spread hate and she would rather spread love and not restrict people from achieving there potential. What does this even mean, where is the substance in what she is saying So yes in summary she has no clue what she is talking about and this video is just an uninformed attempt to get attention and its an epic fail Allow me to retort, point by point: - Her point was about his revolving door policy in government on people that caused the collapse in the first place. Also, what message does that send to the youth? That justice does not apply to everyone? That it is ok to gamble with the biggest assets because you are too big to fail? Sounds like a partnership between the state and the capital to me, like corporatism, kinda like....fascism. - She said the the pharmaceutical industry and the insurance industry benefitted from Obamacare, not the avarage american citizen. Sounds like a partnership between the state and the capital to me, like corporatism, kinda like....fascism. - She meant that the wars changed, but the policy did not. People didn't vote in Obama because of him being pro-war (War against terrorism). Continuing the war-machine? Sounds kinda like....fascism. - The said killed american without due process. The pictures in the video showed an american and his son, who died from a drone strike, which in turn was approved by Obama. Not interested in due process? Sounds kinda like...fascism. - She pointed out that Obama opposed going after whistleblowers before getting elected and then doing 180 turn once in office. Silencing whistleblowers that point out that the government effectively spies on its citizens? Sounds kinda like....fascism. - Moot point in politics. No cares what you personally believe if you do not do anything about. Also, this implies that Obama is politically incompetent - That was a hyperbole, since it has not been tried in court yet as far as i know. It probably refers to http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/restricted.asp - "Spreading the hate" refers to the same old policy and rhetoric used in previous administration. Why do you agree with such fascist tendencies Bruce? Why do you want to limit free speech? Why can't you be more like the guy in the link below? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9buEI8SgwU
  9. You should visit their site more often and check them out for yourself... http://www.aljazeera.com/ Al Jazeera is way more credible than RT. I fact, I think it's generally one of the best news sources when it comes to the ME and developing countries in general. To be honest, I have no idea why people would feel they are a bad news source. Maybe it's because uninformed bigots think "Al Jazeera" sounds like "Al Qaeda"? They obviously have a focus - the ME - which shapes what news they're interested in reporting (just like most American news channels have a focus on the US), but that's pretty much it. Personally, I think that their great coverage of the Iraq war (considering they were the only independent news source on the ground), and the later far more crucial role during the Arab Spring has made them the most important - with respect to how much they have changed the previous status quo - news channel thus far into this century. For people in the ME, real (non-English) journalism on TV not tied to their government or other political movements was often very scarce until Al Jazeera came along. AJ was also the first Arab news channel to feature Israelis on panels debating the I-P conflict and during Cast Lead they had an IDF spokesperson in pretty much every news update, that should say something about their intent of impartiality. To compare, name one US news channel which regularly features comment from Palestinian spokespersons on news updates about the I-P conflict. Here's a recent feature I watched the other day about international arms trade, featuring arms trade experts from SIPRI and Jane's Information Group. Watch yourself and see if you think it's professional and serious news TV. This is another feature I saw linked a lot on Facebook earlier. Their "Opinion" pieces by independent journalists can feature crackpots at times though, but at least they draw the line clearly to separate their serious journalism from "interesting opinions from unrelated people". I watched Al-Jazeera several times during my business trips and RT as well. Frankly, i see little difference between them except for geographical orientation on their news, which comes naturally. Which is why Bruce's opinion stumped me on how he can so easily dismiss one channel over the other.
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIMnIh10po0 You go girl!
  11. Those eyes......
  12. Wait, you have more confidence in Al-Jazeera than in RT? I mean really, whose sock puppet account is this? really?
  13. It's more of a case of really, really bad historical experiences. Nazis were horrible people, but their violence was concentrated in a very small timeframe. The Soviets, woah boy, that was an entirely different case. Apart from being just as bad at the Nazis and even worse than them in many aspects, their occupation and corrupt influence lasted decades, killing tens of thousands, displacing hundreds of thousands, and ruining entire societies and economies like the corrupt empire the USSR was. The impact is still felt to this day. I wouldn't say that support for Neo-Nazi and other far right scum is on the rise, though. It's more of a case of them creating the illusion of being the most active party, rather than people subscribing to far right ideologies. It's also the reason we likely won't see far right crap too much, since that would destroy the parties' support overnight. Mostly because it would seem like just the thing Russia would be doing. A shame, really. Russians deserve a better government because they're good people, victims of a criminal system that destroyed society unchecked for decades. Of course i wasn't that serious, but on the other hand they seem to thrive on the very same old anti-communist propaganda that existed before the war.
  14. I do not see it strange that neo-nazis gaining movement in countries sharing the border with Russia. It is simply the natural consequence of things in post-WWII Europe since they are the only ones that have any anti-russian or russian-sceptic sentiments. I think.
  15. I wonder what the situation would be if Reagan and Thatcher were still around....
  16. I find it hilarious that 1% of the Crimeans thought of Russia as their homeland back in January 2013. Nationality is a social construct and all that, i guess. Please do tell my dear Oby on how the Russian mind works, how suspectible to whims are people who identify themselves as Russians? Are there any movies or novels by the great ones (Tarkovsky, Tolstoy, Dostojevsky) that lets the observer get an insight on this?
  17. If all men are rapist pigs, why do women want to become equal to them? Also, the UK, like most of Europe do not have free speech. Frankly, no country really has it as far as i know, only leaving the US as the closest candidate. It also shows how little we have progressed as a species when we still to this very day try to control information, and to certain extent; the minds of men.
  18. The game is an ironic practical joke on its very customers.
  19. Look, you guys do not need to get butthurt over this. mkreku might have a good taste in women, but in cars, games and movies, he's about as cultured as joe sixpack waiting for the superbowl sunday half-time show. So in the context of the thread, his opinion fits like a glove. Monte seems to get it perfectly though.
  20. Finally something blasphemous. Well done, my good sir!
  21. ^Pretty much. And add the whole "The road to tyranny is pawed on good intensions" to it as well.
  22. Thanks everyone!
  23. Care to elaborate on what this is?
  24. Besides, we do not have true gender equality until we also take account the following factors as well: - The number of homeless are gender equal - The number of prisoners are gender equal - The number of murders committed are gender equal - The number of people working, and dying in "dirty" jobs are gender equal Somehow, i doubt that it will ever happen.
  25. Gender equality can produce results that are not politically correct sometimes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LRdW8xw70 Stupid nature, stop getting in the way of politics. Shoo, shoooo!
