smjjames Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 (edited) Interesting that they have the clergy (looks like Roman Catholic) in there since you don't usually think of the clergy as being part of the capitalist system. This is long before the rise of televangelism though. Edit: Not getting what you're face palming at with the polar bear facepalm pic Guard Dog. Edited November 14, 2017 by smjjames

smjjames Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 You know, shouldnt the rich people partying be switched with the soldiers? Because it's usually the poor people that "we shoot at" rather than both the rich and poor.

Guard Dog Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Ufff... the turn this conversation has taken. If you will all excuse me I'm going to go watch the sun set from the porch of the home I built and sip a glass of fine nine year old bourbon and contemplate the wonderful life I get to lead because I live and work in a relatively free and mostly capitalist country "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
smjjames Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 (edited) More that historically, poor people generally get shafted when it comes to the military stuff. @Guard Dog: Such is the life of forum threads, sudden derails and topic changes happen. Edited November 14, 2017 by smjjames
Ben No.3 Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 (edited) Guard Dog, we also endure every rambling of you when it comes to the evil state interference. So do cut us some slack here. Besides, there’s something to learn. You don’t have to understand anything to support capitalism, you just have to appreciate the status quo. You actually have to understand said status quo to support socialism. Of course, everyone can understand the attractiveness of a world where everyone does what is best for him and everyone wins. But as the prisoners dilemma shows, that doesn’t work. State capitalist* Which is more or less what all systems come down to along a spectrum. The pyramid of power and influence isn't going to change much. Guard Dog Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I have already completely forsworn any association with the Republican Party. Unless Rand Paul gets nominated in 2020, then I'll vote for him. But this whole Roy Moore debacle in Alabama is really distasteful. For those who don't know he's the "Christian" right Senate candidate who it seems has a thing for underage girls. All these girls coming out might be a little suspicious because he's been in public service for 30 years. Why come forward now? But there are so many of them. Even if a few are fake (one definitely is) with that much smoke there is a fire in there somewhere. It's ironic isn't it? The Democrats are the ones who rail against big business, dirty money in politics, and voter rights. But their people are the ones caught taking bribes, influence pedaling, and voter and campaign fraud. The Republicans are supposed to be the 'moral" party of Judaeo-Christian values and Pro-Family stuff, railing against gay & trans folks. But they are ones caught hunting underage girls and boys, or trying to pick up men in airport restrooms. If you really want to know what a politician is up to listen to what they are against. The louder the are opposed to something the more likely they are doing it.
