I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

There have been already some rumours about PS5 and 2018/2019 introduction/release flying around the web...

Fookin' crazy. I have like 7 or 8 unfinished PS4 games, and my most anticipated games for the system: Ni No Kuni II, Yakuza 6 and Dragon Quest XI aren't even released. Then, I might pick up Kingdom Hearts III, and the hack games. I haven't even bought Tales of Vesperia yet. I have Indivisble pre-ordered (backed on IGG). (There are tons of other games that I won't even bother mentioning.)

If I ever buy a PS5, it sure as hell won't be before 2020.

Don't worry. "Rumours" claim PS5 will be backwards compatible.

I won't believe anything until they give us any proof. Until then it's just analysts talking out of their asses.

It's a bit more than just rumours, there's good inherent logic behind it- if they go AMD again there would be no technical reason at all not to have backwards compatibility since the chips used would basically be a specialised AMD APU as they are now, it would be like running a 2012 game on Ryzen2/ Navi instead of Bulldozer and a 7950 which is generally fine. My suspicion would be that both MS and Sony are happy with AMD as there have not been the problems either the 360 (heat, mb warping etc) or the PS3 (rather obscure and unique programming architecture) suffered from last gen. It's difficult to see either going ARM/ PowerPC or even Intel/ nVidia at this point.

Given that both PS4 and xbone are now basically closed box PCs there's no real reason not to have more frequent hardware upgrades, and indeed both already have upgraded options.

I will throw a fit if I end up buying a new PS4 Pro this fall, only to have the PS5 released sometime next year.

And by fit, I mean sob uncontrollably.

I thought it was about time to try out that Nexus Mod Manager doohickey.

It's actually a different and much better program than Mod Manager. Mod Organizer (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/1334/) creates a simulated data folder, so starting over or correcting mistakes is actually possible as it never alters the base files. Not even the ini's

Playing the single player campaign of the first Age of Wonders 3 expansion (the Halfling one). Am on mission 2 and at that point in a mission when you have basically won but it will take hours to finish it.

The AI had been attacking me with Glutton doom stacks (the devs had said they reduced stack size from 8 to 6 to prevent tier 4 unit stacks of doom, but the AI adapted and send multiple stacks instead ;) ). Once I managed to "liberate" all Naga dwellings that stopped. And resurrecting the opponent's Gluttons helped a lot.

Now I have huge armies of Eldritch Horrors, an army with more tentacles than Cthulhu wearing a Day Of The Tentacles shirt while watching tentacle porn. The AI is stacking defenders in all their cities, so it's slow going.

Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).

Few hours into Pyre!

At first I wasn't sure if it would be up to par with Bastion and Transistor but I'd say it surpasses them both in nearly every way. Just an overall really cool, unique experience and great almost Jrpg characters but without the anime-ish quality.

Idk, was just very refreshing. There's so many choices and consequences so there's a lot for me to play a second and even third time.

Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother?

What are you still bothering me for? I'm a Knight. I'm not interested in your childish games. I need my rest.

You finished it within a day? Is the game that short?

It's a bit longer than their other games.

Feels like I'm nearing the end of Prey and it's starting to show. By which I mean that the extreme attention to detail of the first part of the game seems to be gone,

I an into some, imho, terrible design choices (if not outright bugs). Pretty big spoilers:

So I saved Elazar and company in the Cargo Bay, then went after Dahl. Once I took down Dahl and his flunky Elazar decided to move to the Life Support area. So far so good.

However, while going there the game randomly kills 4 people of her group. This made me waste a lot of time trying different things to keep all of them alive (first time through I had been sloppy mopping up the killer bots, second time I made sure I killed all of them and blocked the dispensers) but their deaths are apparently scripted and unavoidable (corpses are always in the exact same spots and often placed rather glitchily to boot. Googled it and turns out it is indeed scripted, yay). Imho this is a really cheap thing to do in a game where you otherwise have so much agency.

Now there's even more issues with this story arc, because after all this I went back to the Cargo Bay and there two of the people I rescued earlier were getting murdered by Typhon. Why the hell were they still even there when they were supposed to be with Elazar?

By now I've maxed most of my weapons, maxed most of my "human" abilities (remember, not using any "powers" in this playthrough) and enemies aren't much of a threat anymore (except Telepaths in zero gravity, bastards). I also noticed most "do everything" achievements don't actually require you to do so, eg. got the achievement for finding everyone aboard Talos I but there's still a few I'm missing (not counting those you apparently can't get to depending on your choices).

Oh yeah, I also killed you-know-who instead of hiding out, two clips of the golden pistol took care of that.

Anyway, think now it's just wrapping up the sidequests I still have and getting to the finale, barring any surprises the game might still throw at me.

That's the reason I didn't go with a Pro. The games run better, but I haven't seen anything about it that makes it a must have for now.

Playing Lords of the Fallen. The game is fun, yet it feels like simplified Dark Souls or Darksiders without platforming.

Defeated 2 bosses in a row on the first try.

Exit Hollow Knight and Pyre, Enter Sundered in 42 hours.

With 55 hours of Hollow Knight and 15 hours of Pyre, I'm ready for something new. Thus, the magical countdown begins.

Finished my replay of the original BioShock, t'was fun.

Heading straight for BioShock 2 and Minerva's Den, pretty excited since I've never touched the DLC and I've heard good things about it.

Got free copy of Dead Cells, will be playing it soon but not too soon.

I wonder how it will match up to Sundered and other games of my repertoire.

Finished Prey, the ending(s) was/were interesting...

Massive spoilers follow (obviously):

I played through three endings. As far as I know there are only three with varying dialogue in the post credits sequence based on your actions.

Speaking of which, for me the post-credits bit was bugged for Danielle Sho, I freed every single human from mind control but she claims most of them died. Apparently using the Stun Gun makes them register as dead... Using mindjack doesn't suffer this problem (but I was doing a human only playthrough so yeah...), see here.

One thing I noticed is that the ending seems to "glitch" at the point when they show you Earth, suggesting that it might be another simulation? (Simulations all the way down!)

A few other things I noticed:

  • the "cook" talks to you when you head for the Reactor/Psychotronics, I thought that was a nice touch (I assume he kinda doesn't when you kill him...)
  • when I tried to track Sarah Elazar while heading for the reactor she "disappeared", she was still shown as being in Life Support (though when you'd head in there she wouldn't be there) but wasn't shown as alive nor dead, but rather as "-----" (aka.: unknown). Which I thought was weird.
  • trying to go anywhere else on the station is kinda pointless as most sections are blocked off by the black stuff, and walking through it is a bad idea (I tried it in cargo bay, funnily enough while doing that I saw some people that were marked as dead on the terminal being very much alive on the other side of the door, though I'll attribute this to a glitch rather than anything meaningful)

Anyway, I had a blast and I'll probably try a Typhon-only playthrough later. I also hope they expand a bit on the (post-)ending with DLC, my curiosity is piqued to be sure.

Bought Torment: Tides of Numenera 50% off, played it for a while. So far it's pretty decent, but no "wow" factor inside.

It'll stay that way except for some flashes of brilliance where everything comes together. 50% off seems like a fair price all things considered. Of course us backers see that a bit differently given the cuts and broken promises, but overall it was interesting enough for me to not be angry with inXile, but I think I'm in the minority there. :) *shrug*

I'm really loving Pyre so far.  It's such an interesting game.  It's a choose your own adventure with RPG mechanics and battles that play out as a sort of sport most closely resembling basketball.  The idea of battles as a sport is brilliant and it's executed very well.  It's really tactical because only one character on a team can move at one time and they all have different abilities, so it's a game of strategically trying to bluff and outmaneuver your opponent to create an opening you can exploit.  Plus your characters have skill trees that can add abilities or augment existing ones opening up new tactical options.

In a video game landscape of monkey see monkey do, it really warms my heart to see someone put out something so different than anything else out there.  No surprise at all that it's Supergiant who don't follow the crowd and make something unique and special.

The combat is okay. I agree it's unique but I made sure to make a point in my review that it isn't rewarding or satisfying like Bastion's combat. It's more on the lenient side of things, closer to Transistor in that regard.

The thing that grabbed me was the character development and the choice and consequences. This ultimately should surprise all fans of Supergiant. As a long time fan of theirs who's been with them thrighout their journey since the beginning, I think Pyre is a worthy addition and their best work as far as story goes but as experimental as their games are, I don't believe they've found their sweetspot just yet. Things could be a bit better.

Finished the Halfling mini campaign in Age of Wonders 3. It was underwhelming, partly because the last mission was extremely easy, partly because it ended just as you were getting a hint of there being an actual story. The voice actor I did not like at all. But it was Age of Wonders, so the overall experience was still fun.

Started the Frostling campaign yesterday and, while the first mission is uncharacteristically easy for AoW, it is doing so many things better already. And Melenis (though mentioned in the Halfling campaign) playing a major role is also great - returning a side character from the first game like that and fleshing her out.

Bugged again on Deserts of Kharak so I think I will just uninstall this as apparently mission 5 has an issue with ghost units. Meh.

I have it installed, but I've not played it yet. Is it in an unplayable state? I'd heard fantastic things about it.

Played Darksiders Warmastered edition for about 20 minutes—and went back to Champions of Krynn; and will probably play out the whole Krynn series in a row... transfering PCs from one to the next, to the next.  Also playing War for the Overworld WFTO. It is indeed about the closest thing we're likely to ever get... to a real Dungeonkeeper 3; but (so far) it lacks the bite & style that DK1 & 2 had.  I still like it...  I just wish (the original) Bullfrog had worked on it.

Sinclair is such an awesome character in BioShock 2. Enjoying my replay of the BioShock series a whole lot, I don't know why the series get so much hate. The photography element is a chore, the gunplay in 1 & 2 are bad but there is still a whole lot to like here.

I'm going straight for the System Shock games after this, I've played 2 back in the days but never tried 1. I have both games on Steam so I guess it's time to wipe off that digital dust.

I am now focusing on two games: Arc the Lad II for the PS1 and The Witcher III: GotY Edition on PC. I'm really liking the former and having mixed feelings about the latter. I still don't like the combat in a The Witcher game, but I enjoy everything else. The world is fun to explore and some quests are fun. Presentation is top notch. This is the first game that really challenges my new computer in any way. (I've owned the game since release, but I never had the horsepower to run it.)
