I saw this guy in the comments of one of the backer update videos and dismissed it as a lone weirdo or perhaps an in-joke gone awry , but I didn't know he was spamming them with his dental fixation.

I remember the first time I played the beta and tried to shoot a barrel to make it explode. I was surprised when it didn't blow.

Same. Whenever it make sense or not - it’s kinda what you expect by now.

How about that: It works with guns, but only if you threw alcohol on them.

They got it right in Demon's Souls. They only explode when you actually ignite them.

If you break them open, they can create a surface of spilled gunpowder or whatever and then ignite them in a larger area or something.

This was all legit in DOS2 (and even more); hope Deadfire's engine can handle stuff like that.

There is no oil, gunpowder interaction though. For example if you cast slicken followed with fire spell it won’t ignite. HOWEVER, what if it’s oil barrel (do they have those or only gunpowder?) we spawn slicken instead of explosion when shot?

Seems we gonna left stuck with just boom barrels

Ok I can live with that (although including them makes it an insta-compare with DOS2 - which Deadfire's gonna lose ). They might end up being the game's new "thing" hehehe. They sound fun the least

Eh, i would prefer if they only ignited if hit by fire damage (whether it be a fireball spell or a fire-lash pistol or sword)

I feel like the question of exploding barrels is a pretty difficult one to answer without context, which we don't really have. Unless they plan to balance it based on which is picked.
