am not understanding the confusion.

daddy o' osama is founder.   family spent much time in the west and am not doubting name is a mixture o western and arabic naming conventions.  actual meaning o' ldn is soft.  us westerners need vowels, so ldn becomes laden or ladin or whatever.

HA! Good Fun!

ps added family pic for the deceased terrorist during his 1971 stay in sweden... second from end on far right.

As I understand it, his father's name was Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden; the grandfather was Awad bin Aboud bin Laden.  Great grandfather was Aboud bin Laden, great-great grandfather Ali bin Laden.  Beyond that the "bin Laden" name appears to be potentially sourced by translations between multiple languages but used as a patronym by the family (meaning the last bin Laden isn't the great-grandfather but a reference to the family unit).

Doesn't make sense at all... bangheadir0.gifaiee.gif

How come Awwad bin Laden is son of Aboud Bin Laden is son of Ali Bin Laden...Ibn and Bin means the same that is "Son Of"

Bin Ladin means "Son of Ladin"

(for female it's Binti such as me Mizan Qistina Binti Ahmad Radzi Bin ismail Bin Ngah Lempong....Ngah Lempong is my great great grandfather...Binti means "Daughter Of")

Bin and Ibn used freely, based on slang...some say Bin some say Ibn, it means the same, but for female it always Binti

Nevermind...

As I said, as near as I can tell and understand, the family took "bin Laden" as a patronymic western style family name.  The same way we have Erikson (literally Son of Erik) as a family name in the west from the Icelandic tradition (example: Lief Erikson was the son of Erik "The Red" Thorvaldsson, who in turn was son of Thorvald Asvaldson, etc.) but has lost the literal meaning (ie not all Eriksons are the sons of Eriks).

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

Then Osama ben Laden is just western creation...as a leader of Muslim Jihadist group where some fanatical Muslims revered him highly and taking him as a saint...it just don't add up using western infidel style of name....

adds up just fine.  we solved the mystery o' the meaning for you and also the oddity o' the naming convention.  osama got the name from his father, whose company did considerable business with the west.  as you can see from our linked pic, osama were pretty westernized himself at one point.  is not a western creation.  were a creation o' osama's father.  and ldn is the "word" you is looking for.

mysteries solved.

Apparently CNN and MSNBC were allowed into the attackers apartment already, photos galore. I dunno about California Police, but isn't that a little quick? Shouldn't it be closed due to investigation?

our press is pretty good about getting access.  in any event, the apartment were made safe, evidence were already collected, and no doubt every inch o' the place were photographed by multiple law enforcement agencies.  the shootings didn't occur in the apartment, and the suspects is not around to complain 'bout press access, yes?

am not particular shocked.  with all the conspiracy nutters running amok and given the new distrust o' law enforcement, there i no doubt a desire to ere on the side o' transparency.

ps ldn is a trilateral root... again, is not a mystery.

I was going for the angle of the press interrupting a place where there's an ongoing investigation, meaning the legality of the whole thing. But if you say that it is modus operandi there, fair enough. I expected those kinds of things to take weeks though.

nothing about this shooting is typical.   getting access to the home o' a shooter wherein the shooting did not take place in the home?  is typical not an evidence gathering concern in such situations, but cops sure as hell ain't gonna have police posted to escort journalists through the apartment o' a random carjacker. this is Not normal, but is not surprising to us.  what benefit does law enforcement have in preventing press access once they has collected everything they believe is relevant evidence?  typical you don't want acces for fear o' tainting... prevent possible conviction.  that ain't an issue in this case, yes?

I like how people are so deseprate to prove that this isn't an extemist Muslim shooting. Sorry, dudes, all signs point to yes. Trying to pretend extremist Islam doesn't or isn't a,problem does NOBODY any service ESPICIALLY good natured peace loving law abiding Muslims.

The only thing that is strange is the choice of target. And the child aspect.

Anonymous law enforcement officials told the New York Times and the Associated Press that the woman involved in the shooting pledged allegiance to ISIS, the jihadist organization, in a now-deleted Facebook posting. But there's no evidence that the group directed the couple to carry out the shooting. The group is instead believed to have acted as inspiration, if anything. "At this point we believe they were more self-radicalized and inspired by the group than actually told to do the shooting," one of the officials told the Times.

Not really proof, but there you have it.

It's been a little crazy around here. My gym is about one mile from the attack and I live about 2.5 miles from it. I was driving west on the 10 and I changed lanes. Immediately, the police car in the lane behind me, like within a few seconds, turned on it's siren and lights and I thought maybe I would get a ticket. I wasn't really worried or scared. Just a little bemused but the prudent thing to do when being pulled over is to pull over. Well, the cop car sped past me and kept moving through traffic towards Waterman Ave. After I got home, I found out about the shootings. I went back out a while later to run some errands, only to find the city office on lockdown. Going back the *other* direction on the freeway, once again three cop cars and a couple of emergency vehicles were speeding towards Redlands. Crazy as hell. Wife was on lockdown and several friends were on lockdown near the scene. While I was out, I saw several emergency and law enforcement vehicles with lights and sirens going. It was Bedlam for a while. Probably should have stayed home, I guess. Not out of fear, but because I'm sure it didn't help that I was out on the road helping to clog up traffic during the emergency. Next time, I'll keep that in mind.

Definitely not the reason you want to see your local area in the news. Life is more or less back to normal for a lot of folks, but anyone with ties to education in the area undoubtedly has some connection to people who were killed or wounded. We do. If anyone else here is from the Inland Empire, I hope everything is alright with you. Well... I hope everything is good for the rest of you as well. Stay safe, everyone!

Evidence seems to point to them being radical jihadists

With this in mind, I wonder if we'll start seeing more lone wolf attacks from jihadists rather than coordinated attacks?

I don't think he needed that much convincing. He did go to Saudi Arabia to find a wife.

So, totally not another Islamic terror attack huh?
