Hardly answers the point I tried (and apparently failed) to make, namely that since people have been allowed to voice their frankly nasty and barbaric opinions about women in gaming, they seem to have become emboldened to voice their nasty and barbaric opinions about everything else as well.

Or maybe they've been consistently terrible and I just started paying attention to them more, I don't know.

Doublish post, but this is somewhat more specific than the previous one.

Here at least most of the people doing so are trolling, and getting butthurt over it is exactly what is wanted. One user who posts inflammatory crap here has the lowest (semi) legit rep on the GOG forums, pretty much everyone lower than him has been dogpiled by scammer alts and another is basically doing a Let's Play the Obsidian Forums for the codex. The GOG one gets a far better and more numerous response here needless to say, and neither is particularly subtle about it. Back seat modding is obnoxious though (plus I genuinely like the mod policy, personally, gives people enough rope to hang themselves) and the problem is at least as much people's knee jerking reflexively in response as anything else. There's always been a lot of, uh, robust debate on serious issues and trolls have always got an enthusiastic response here, GG threads haven't changed that one way or another. ISIS, economics, the refugee crisis or ethics in game journalism I doubt there would be a huge difference in response between now and 2008 when I joined or 2004 (?) when I started reading these forums.

Whether here or elsewhere people like stating their genuine opinions, mostly, some people like riling others up for a laugh and some people like feeling outrage at being rarked up. Ignore the bits you don't like, maximise the bits you do.

I'm kind of worried about Sanders leading Hilzilla. Not because of Socialism, because that's unlikely to pass Congress anyway, but because he seems to have no interest in foreign policy at all.

Actually I'd say the hints are pretty big that he will be an isolationist, which puts him in a very similar camp as Trump.

That actually increased his appeal to me. Of course he loses me on the whole "managed" economics thing.

The US needs to maintain an interventionist mindset towards the real players, like China and Russia. This would require Sanders or Trump to modernize into 21st century nuclear deterrence as needed and to keep active in Ukraine. But please just stay away from everything else, that would make the world a safer and better place (and it would save a lot of  money and lives as well).

Hate to break it to you, but interventionism isn't something the US can be expected to do in moderation. It's all or nothing. Either the US doesn't get involved in foreign affairs or it doesn't want foreigners to blink without our knowledge and consent. Oh, and the government is comically incompetent too so expect us to constantly make the world more unstable and dysfunctional.

People like Sanders actually annoy me, he panders to this view that the enemy in the USA is " big business "

Yes we all acknowledge  about the 2008 crisis and its reasons but people like Sanders think that somehow carving up and trying to get government to control these corporations will actually  be beneficial to the overall USA economy

I'm not sure how he thinks this would be implemented but lets not now give this idea of socialism too much credit when it comes to industry like the financial sector

Ros you know I respect your view and really admire the Swedish economic and social  model but what many people in Western countries don't seem to realize is just how key the USA has been in ensuring Western countries dont have to worry about military threats from places like Russia

Now I'm not suggesting that if the USA  suddenly vanished Putin would invade the EU but the reality is the USA represents much more than just some " annoying interfering global policeman "  ....its is needed to ensure stability to certain things  we take for granted. So there will still be times when the USA will intervene even though it may not make sense :)

I can't speak for Shady but to many of his supporters he represents a lack of alternatives. Don't ever doubt that unlike the character of legend most folks who are tilting at windmills know they are doing so. Sometimes there is just nothing better to do.

Wow, this is a very interesting list and many things I do agree with. I need to go through it in detail...this is a good way of choosing a candidate

KP maybe I never mentioned this before to you but one of the reasons I seem to be concerned about your negative view of corporations is not because I think you uninformed its motivated more by the fact I spend a fair amount of time defending the positive aspects of Capitalism and how the USA isn't this corrupt, belligerent economic bully and in fact the USA and the impact of the free market does far more good than bad. You see there are many people who have a negative view of the USA and in my  own country we are debating the future of how we should structure our economy to allow many black South Africans to be part of the economy. I have to debate with people who represent bygone and archaic systems of government which have been proven to have failed....like real Communists ...no joke

I know it probably seems like I push a certain agenda and I do because I have traveled through Africa and I cannot tell you how depressing it is to see  the levels of real poverty in some countries ...I am talking about African countries where the local people have NEVER known anything but grinding poverty for generations. And its not that African people are stupid or dont know how to run countries, its because they have had leaders who just don't care about being good leaders

And of course my ancestors come from the UK so we are also responsible for Colonialism but the UK handed back there Colonies in the early 1960's and they were all working and in a good state unlike the Portuguese who basically destroyed there colonies after deciding to engage in pointless civil wars

And something else I have realized, black South Africans despite 50 years of the most inhuman and appalling system of Apartheid actually have been very forgiving and reasonable to white South Africans. And I also now know just what Apartheid did to the psyche and confidence to many black South Africans...so you can imagine its not very nice to realize what your family or relatives were part of during Apartheid

So I then come to these forums after positioning the advantages of the free market and having hours of debates and I find you basically attacking Capitalism...and you live in the USA. And of course you are entitled to your opinion but it frustrates me because I am not picking on you because of your age but rather when you complain about the USA and how bad you think things are I wonder " do you realize how lucky you are  "

But anyway its unfair  of me to expect you to understand just how terrible the lives are of some African people are...I just want to explain why I sometimes seem to question why you say you don't like the USA :)
