List of bugs that everyone should know about (Game Breaking)

Question

Posted (edited)

Hello Developers,

As much as I love this game, I can not play the game in its current form. Which really saddens me.

The reason being there are a few game breaking bugs that we can not even reverse ourselves.

List of game breaking bugs you should be aware about and fixing ASAP next patch. As we can NOT play the game as intended!!

Nr 1 http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/73449-stat-bonus-modifiers-can-erroneously-be-applied-multiple-times-allowing-stats-to-grow-beyond-intended-values/

The mother of all game breaking bugs and the main reason so many people are complaining that the game is too easy on HARD difficulty.

Loading a Savegame in the same map where you picked up a companion, and the companion is wearing armor that boost <random stats>.

Each time you load a savegame, the stats increase! do it 100 times and your character is INVINCIBLE.

Nr 2 http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72923-psa-game-breaking-bug-affecting-everyone-including-you-temporary-fix-for-party-members-only-currently/

Double clicking on a item (like armor, boots etc) and then it equipping on said character his perma stats disappear.

Nr 3: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72764-quick-saving-and-loading-times-increased-greatly-after-20-hours/

I personally didnt experience this yet, but this also hinders gameplay that much that it falls under the category game breaking.

The more you save, the longer it takes to load/save again, people reporting 20-30 hours into the game saves are taking aprox 30 sec to quicksave, and similar time to load.

Nr 4: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/73289-so-many-bugs/

Summoning Bug, where after combat the summoned creatures do NOT despawn, leaving you permanently in combat. You can NOT control

your summoned creatures anymore and they go with you every map... Workaround is probably loading a previous save for now but I have not confirmed this.

Similar thing to Stronghold, there is also a bug at the stronghold that after an enemy wave and you kill it. They keep coming back EVERY time you visit. I tried finding the source but couldnt find it here,, the lovely search function on this forum seems missing.

nr 5: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72614-endless-paths-level-13-is-uncompletable-major-bug/

Endless Path level 13, spirits not giving password so you can not continue.

Nr 6 : http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/73704-bugged-stronghold-tax/ http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/73737-empty-treasury/

Strong Hold doesn't give tax, it only claims taxes  (lol). There are multiple topics about it, I just picked out these 2.

I have to say something because I think we're not doing the game justice. Yes there are bugs, some are really weird and have significant impact BUT:

- They don't break the game except of rare occurences

- I PERSONALLY haven't dealt with any of them. I never doubled clicked and even though I play a ranger never had a problem with my animal companion. Also I finished Raedric and had no issues what so ever.

So please let's be calm. The game is certainly not a buggy mess. It has bugs, as all games do on release, but it's a wonderful experience none the less.

Still I find this list useful and important to maintain

I will keep calm but I have a different definition of game breaking. Sure I admit not all of the listed bugs in this page are game breaking.

But the one that is definitely game breaking is the bug when you load a savegame you have a change that one of your companions, even yourself in certain conditions gain permanent stats. which results in the character slowly becoming a superhero and for me, who wants to play this game on hard difficulty and face challenging content. This is game breaking for me.

Hence, I am currently not playing the game and waiting for the patch before continueing. Or possibly restarting the game if the bug is fixed but doesn't revert the changes in current savegames.

I have found a working savegame fix the will load savegames and create new working non corrupt savegames

This has been tested and working on 3 different machines with 5 different save files myself and have had 2 other friends fix their savegames with this method.

First delete the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Obsidian Entertainment

Then delete the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\Obsidian Entertainment

If you have any saves in C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\Pillars of Eternity

Copy them to C:\Users\username\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity

Run the game as admin and load the most recent save

Move your char and save a new save.

Without exiting the game reload that new save.

Save again in the same save.

Exit the game.

That should work and create new files in LocalLow and Local\Temp

Though its probably unnecessary before i exit i save then i load my save and resave the same save everytime before i exit the game now.  I have my 60+ hour save now to 85 hours without an issue on multiple machines.

Please dont ask questions or expect me to explain this again if it works great if it doesnt or you cant figure it out good luck.

Didn't do anything. Still got no racial passive, and Eder is still over stat-ed.

I think it's just supposed to fix the crash issue.

Well, hopefully they get a patch out in the next few days that resolves a lot of these. I'm about a third of the way through the game but planning on restarting anyway, with a cipher, but I definitely don't want to do that until they fix some of the bugs.

Speaking of which, I didn't see (did I miss it) the Cipher bug related to the couple of items, per this thread: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72492-bug-cipher-focus-gain-permanently-disabled-by-drinking-horn-of-moderation/

I'd say that's pretty game-breaking if your PC is a Cipher.

It's not gamebreaking, just as ~95% of the others bugs mentioned here. I'm playing a Cipher on hard difficulty and had this bug since I equipped that amulet as well. It's annoying and kinda spoils the fun of playing a Cipher but it's by no means at all gamebreaking...

You guys should think a bit more before you call a bug gambreaking. A bug might make the game less fun or even frustrating to play but gamebreaking means you literaly can't play the game anymore, even if you could get over being annoyed or frustrated about a bug. I have bugs too, I'm annoyed and sometimes frustrated too that the game got through QA in this state but this overdramatizing that is going on here, calling every little bug gamebreaking is ridiculous...

Also, some of you who cry for patches and demand to get the patch yesterday should maybe give this http://mrlizard.com/rants/why-havent-they-fixed-this-bug/ a read, even though it's mainly about MMOs it also applies to other games.

just my 2 cents

I've found a little bug at the mission "At all costs" (Spoilers): When I killed Verzano and the guards, the Danna's healer doesnt stop to heal my party and combat doesnt finish. Hopefully, I've saved the game.

I'd put the bug in Raedric's Hold on the list as well. If you don't safe often this can as well very much break your game or a least a huge chunk of it.

Yeah, that fight in general is bugged and can prevent completing the quest in different ways; they're working on fixing it.

The bug I've had is when I transition to another area that the game gets struck on the loading screen.  I then have to close out the game and a lot of the times my saves won't load unless I completely reboot my computer.

Yea the CIpher thing is just mildly annoying.

The Stats becoming Insane ruins the fun of the challenge. (Unkillable Tanks = boring)

The Ranger pet disappearing though, that's potentially gamebreaking, it'll corrupt your save and prevent you from being able to zone. So I suggest do not play or use a Ranger, unless you don't mind losing progress and save a lot. (Not just Quicksave and Auto-save)

Any educated guess on whether the patch will be able to retroactively fix the issues regarding missing and overboosted stats on characters? I'd prefer not to have to start a new game.

My educated guess is they will be retroactive.

I don't see why not; since there's no way to legitimately increase your base stats in the game, dropping them back down for companions and recalculating derived stats based on level shouldn't be a huge problem.

It would be nice to get an update from Obsidian on the progress and ETA of the patch. I'd really like to play the game and I've already done "the acceptance dance" that I'm gonna have to start over and abandon my current game because of several of the bugs. I just don't want to have to start over again.

I find it strange that reviews don't mention how buggy game is despite such many and obvious problems. I'm wondering if pre-first patch game was more playable? :o

I've had the disappearing ranger companion bug, and found that, although initially it seemed as though all my saves were affected and I was screwed, when I exited the game and rebooted my PC, the companion had reappeared (in all the saves) and I could continue. Phew!

Posting this here in case it helps anyone else in the same situation.

So I'll just put my disappearing Aloth bug here, it doesn't seem to be getting much attention, so maybe its only me. But I would like it fixed as it's pretty bad. Who knows how else this bug can creep up.

That's a nasty one.

Btw. it would be better if you attach your bugged savegame and output log too (http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72439-must-read-how-to-report-an-issue/).

[bUG 9] http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/74105-gamestopping-bug-do-not-equip-the-drinking-horn-of-moderation/

Equipping the item 'Drinking Horn of Moderation' and removing the item again and re-equipping seems to boost your intelligence each time by +2 permanently.

Seems like a combination between 'Nr1 and Nr2' in the first post of this thread. A new variation of a virus going ham xD

Anyways added here as I think it should be on the list of bugs everyone should know about.

Reviewers basically speed play the game to get the review out fast, it's easy for them to miss anything that doesn't outright crash the game to black.
