I somehow wonder if they would've written a similar article if Gone Home was banned because of homosexual material.

 

 

...The whole point of the article is that it's not a ban, it's a privately-owned retailer deciding that distributing the games in question is more trouble for them than it's worth.

 

So obviously, if Gone Home was banned (for any reason), they would've written a completely different article because that would be a completely different situation entirely. Duh.

Is all rather silly, all the various violence and murder in the game isn't that big a deal (there's a torture scene that is not optional, after all) but the apparent glamorization of violence against women (I am still unsure how this is exactly a thing, to be honest) is.

 

Did try discussing this with some SJW esque folk, was rather amused that they were revolted by the video of the guy doing the usual hooker routine in GTA5 and killing her. Shame the campaigners didn't just not play the game, why inconvenience people who like shopping at Target and GTA over it ?

Honestly, what the hell is happening? These journalists first attacked gamers and now are attacking developers.

The link really undermines the neutrality of the article.

 

They are right in saying that Target has a say in what they sell on their stores just like the consumer can go elsewhere where the game is sold. The article has its leftist leaning but for the most part it makes its point well, inadvertently offers some suggestions (some which have already been put into action) and remains unoffensive. Which is a bit bothering because it leaves me without someone to blame as well.

But before Target or any other similar market chain could remove Gone Home from their stores they would need first take it on their catalogs, which they don't do because they feel that it is niche product that don't sell for their customers, which for some reason don't cause uproar and people claiming that they are banning or censuring it.

Hm, it seemed like common knowledge to me that Australia bans everything (they banned petite breasts from porn!) but maybe that will actually help sell it to little kids... which is by far the problem, the game isn't meant for kids.

Are people forbidden to bring copy with them when they go there or do Target have some public listing site/place where people can't anymore list their copies to be sold or do this ban manifest in some other form that I didn't mentioned? Removing product from their catalog is not banning at least any sense of word ban that I know, so I don't count that to be an act of banning.

Because family values... I just don't understand. Doesn't every family have at least one adult in it? Don't those adults enjoy doing different things than their kids? This moral panic has to end.

 

It isn't really moral panic at all since the 'Family First' lobby here really is very weak compared to either Australia or the US; it's near pure PR. They're doing a rebranding exercise to try and get rid of their reputation for selling any old cheap unreliable tat and the decision was mainly based on that.

 

Also, the Warehouse is our equivalent of WalMart- and WalMart has a policy of not stocking adult rated games/ videos (some)/ music. It's pretty stupid, but companies like aping the most trivial trappings of success.
