Longknife
Newest from twitterverse Felicia Day's blog post where she writes down her thoughts about GamerGate and how it has effected her. http://thisfeliciaday.tumblr.com/post/100700417809/the-only-thing-i-have-to-say-about-gamer-gate It's odd. To me, she represents a mature reaction to the drama, aka the entire article reads like "I get a lot of scrutiny while in the public eye, and yes it's unfair and uncomfortable, but I can't let that stop me from being me, nor can I let that allow me to hate people as a collective." Damn right, that's exactly the attitude everyone should have. But then at the end she remarks that she thinks this article will garner scorn and disdain from GamerGate supporters...wtf why? It's like she's misunderstood something or Iunno what, but we can't know because she never clarifies or explains what GamerGate means to her. Best of luck to her, either way. Hopefully the article sparks talks with some people and she'll realize she's got nothing to worry about. "The Courier was the worst of all of them. The worst by far. Agiel
They won't ruin this game. Too lazy to check more Internet butthurt. I kind of blame Doctor Who for creating the expectation for *ALL* in-game NPCs existing either as paragons of or projections of postmodern progressive values, which is where I think the hate for Ashley Williams in Mass Effect is couched in. She's a good character. Are the space racist aspects of her likeable? Of course not, but her backstory is nuanced enough that how she is is kind of expected given her background. Edited October 23, 2014 by Agiel 1 Quote “Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.” -Jonathan Littell <<Les Bienveillantes>> Quote "The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete." -Rod Serling

There's a very interesting response from one of the posters in the article you last linked, David Ward. "These articles were proof that games media was hostile to those that consumed games media, not because we are the stereotype but BECAUSE we had thought a natural progression had already occurred where the stereotype was disproved, but our media hadn’t gotten the memo. To think we’re simply mad because we heard “Gamers are Dead” hur dur derp, anger, is condescending – we understand they’re not trying to “take away our games.” We’re hurt because we’re alienated, we’ve had stereotypes thrust on us since the 80s, and it hasn’t stopped since but we’d hoped that our media (our advocates) were the last people to perpetuate those stereotypes." I'm not a GamerGate supporter (I guess I'll have to say this a thousand times) but I still feel insulted when I hear the press' stereotypical definition of "Gamer". But, oh no, sorry guys we don't mean you, when we say gamer we only mean the sort of virgin, neckbeard, obese, cisgendered, white, male, crybaby that we immediately think of when we say gamer, and you're not like that right? Yeah, that's not at all insulting. Edit: The Felicia Day article, well, I can certainly understand how she would feel that way considering that there are people out there that do have these very negative views on anything female and that the press puts all its focus on them. It's a shame because it honestly isn't a reason to avoid people who look like gamers to her (can you really tell? Is there a secret handshake I missed?). And that's the thing really, because all the focus goes out to the toxic GamerGaters suddenly all gamers seem to be suspect. Oerwinde
My first reaction to the Felicia Day post was the bit about her expecting the trolls to dissipate but they haven't. Duh. You don't feed the trolls, thats like rule #1. When trolls food of choice is negative reactions and attention, and the people they're going after write tweet after tweet, and articles for major websites, and major network media appearances, all about their negative reactions and how people need to pay attention, of course they aren't going away! Zoe, Anita, and Brianna got stung, and their reaction wasn't to avoid bees like a normal person, it was to kick hives. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity. Meshugger
Did Gamergate celebrate in a ritual dance, flinging bro-fists all around and drank to Ms. Day's tears? Atleast that's what the mainstream media says. Also, i learned on twitter that the shooter in Ottawa had a #Gamergate-tshirt. Those sounds like legitimate concerns from a non-biased citizen of the land.
