is a few other drawbacks, but am serious considering esseles leveling.

Yeah, like having to deal with that annoying Twi'lek hypocrite bitch for 60+ runs. Ugh.

Finishing up Rishi on my Marauder and got the option of the strangest rewards I've seen in a while from She Who Greedily Devours which used to give a 192 companion offhand and now gives a 192 bound to legacy offhand. Anyway, only 2 options this time an offhand blaster with appropriate stats and an offhand saber with wtf stats. It had like defense, shield, and absorption... on an offhand saber... the hand you would have to have a shield in

I think Bioware has a thing against female Twileks (I can't believe it took me 2 years to realise that was a word play on two lekkus), since two of the most dislikeable characters in the game are Asara and Saresh (sp?).

Not getting much game time outside weekends at the moment. Crappy motel wifi doesn't help (1000 ms lag on Red Eclipse) :(

Looks like I'm only going to get to rank 19 with my specialists this week and even then I'll likely have to buy a few boxes with comms

All my companions are still sitting at 20 except for Lana so maybe that's what I'll work on next

our experiment o' starting a new character has had mixed result.  am level 63 after less than a week o' moderate gameplay.  those repeated esseles tactical fp runs is soul numbing but lucrative. our t7 is at influence 50, we got a bunch o' 208 purple gear, a large stack o' purple tier 5 gifts purchased with excess crystals( cultural artifacts and republic memorabilia at ~50 apiece), and am maxed at 1000 o' the common crystals.  unfortunate, a few o' the companions dont get max pay-off from gifts til you romance, so kira is at 30 influence and doc is at 20ish.  we only just finished voss, so sgt. grumpy-pants and scourge is not having benefited much from dialogues-- they is still in the 20 influence range as well.  with all the saved crystals and purchased purple gifts, we should be able to get one o' the kotfe companions to influence 40 rather painlessly, but am not gonna have any starting comp other than t7 much beyond 30.

see, the thing is that pre 4.0, the companions that joined your crew later in the game would benefit from larger individual dialogue rewards.  that is no longer the case.  if t-7 and lord scourge both like a dialogue response, they both get the same amount o' influence boosting points... and there is relative few dialogue opportunities for scourge simple 'cause there is only a couple planets remaining when he is recruited.

...

y'know, it has been years since we ran the belsavis and ilum dailies, but those missions were unique in that they did provide dialogue rewards.  rewards weren't enough to be worthwhile pre 4.0, but if am getting better than 200 influence per appreciative dialogue response, those dailies could have some minor value.  the only belsavis or ilum missions we has run recent is the supply crate missions, and those is done sans npc interaction.  am gonna need check what kinda influence payoff there is from doing dailies on belsavis.  am unlikely to bother doing such missions more than once, but seeing as how dialogue rewards do not diminish as one gains influence, such dailies could be a useful way to top-off a couple o' original companions once you get 'em into the 40 influence range.  4x, yuun, scorpio, xalek, and doctor lokin is most obvious options.

oh well. mixed results.

HA! Good Fun!

Forgot to mention that I need to play through all the planets again on my main character. While planet hopping for heroics a lot of quests are showing up even though I'm pretty sure I did them years ago

I also created a new character but I'm only about 28 at the moment

You're sort of forgetting the entire village of annoying Twi'lek hillbillies refugees on Tython. Some of those are male. So it's probably more like a bias against Twi'leks anyway. ;)

I was just reading Gromnirs experiments with influence. My max influence level is a Scorpio with level 16. Still some work to do

Doesn't help that I have no time at the moment. Gave up trying to find pug groups for killing WB's and too lazy to kill Wampas, so started playing a consular through the story to get Qyzen.

Edit: Ironically, the only character I have with valor level high enough (has valor 60+ iirc) to get Pierce is my old vengeance juggernaut, so he would get Pierce anyway if trying to recruit him.

for what it is worth, the belsavis dailies do indeed provide dialogue influence rewards at the new 4.0 rates.  that means that each daily is gonna give you an influence boost o' 'tween 260 and 780 with your summoned companion. unfortunately, a few o' the dailies is missing.  am gonna need check to see what happened, but we weren't able to start conversations with a few o' the mission npcs.  even so, there is still ~8 belsavis dailies. similar to black hole, the belsavis dailies is rewarding crystals at a better rate than most other dailies-- 5 per mission.

I tried some of the Belsavis dailies the other week but had an annoying glitch kept cropping up. Actually something I've noticed outside of Belsavis as well, when you have to pick up mission loot dropped by enemies for your mission to progress, half the time it seems to pick up the loot but not update the quest. Then enemies keep dropping it, but telling you that you can't pick it up because you already have x amount of unique item.  Sometimes logging out, then back in will cause the quest to update, but half the time it requires several mission resets before it'll work properly.

quick update: not including the heroics, which can only be done weekly as of 4.0, we were able to get better than 3000 influence for kira while spending ~30 minutes doing the belsavis dailies.  is hardly world shaking influence gain, but we will likely use the belsavis dailies IF we ever grind companions such as talos drellik or 4x into the 40 influence range.

ilum dailies also provides influence bonuses through dialogues, but the numbers seem far less favorable than belsavis.  am gonna experiment with different comps to see if there is a few that get particular good result from ilum... but not today.

I admire your persistence Gromnir, no one should ever claim you leave a stone unturned laughing.gif

I think, I'm going to stick with Esseles/Black Talon and the Belsavis ones and then focus on one or two combat companions (the one or two favourites I got per alt) and then also use that companion(s) to try to get the purple diplomacy/slicing/underworld mates (and crafting for those alts that have crafting skills). Multiple roles is nice, but I think I miss their old skills, like Vector the Diplomat having a knack for diplomacy etc. It's just one of those things that feels like you lost something that made them special.

Not my biggest gripe though, I do like that I can bring my favourites along for missions and not worry about class role. Just wish they had actually made combat fun along the way. At the moment, it feels like a third person shooter with little or no tactics involved. Combat and encounter design feels completely fubar (since Shadow of Revan).

Depending on what time of day you play at, Qyzen's quest may range from undoable to trivial. I only managed to complete it by camping a target-rich area late (think ~4am) at night, in an instance with just 5 other imperial players in it. And I still had to join a pug to take down Snowblind. I'm in the same boat as you regarding Pierce.

The whole alliance thing seems like a humongous grind if you want to get any kind of completion for more than one character. Just thinking about doing 6x Star Fortress heroics per character makes me want to start deleting a few, and that's without factoring in the influence grind which, outside of specific cases of crafting, seems practically pointless.

Regarding the game essentially playing itself outside of HMs, the forums seem to be divided between the people who suggest that a game by definition requires gameplay, and people lashing out against those who want to "take away their fun" and "make the game worse for everyone". I'd like to be wrong on this, but I expect the next balance pass on the issue (assuming there is one) to please no one.

I tried to do some group finder stuff yesterday to horrific results

One HM FP where we couldn't beat the first boss

Two hours sitting in the queue for Ops that never happened

Three tactical FPs where we couldn't even get to the first boss - almost all progress was made when have the group dropped and we were duoing with companions but then we got two more damage role players and it was back to no progress

I also pretty much just run around with general chat off now since all the people once contained on the fleet are swarming the planets for heroics

yeah, am having had a few nightmare flashpoint runs since 4.0, so we quit fps altogether.  the changes to heroics and fps has not worked as advertised.  for heroics, people is less likely to group now 'cause the vast majority o' such missions is soloable.  get all rewards for self and not need wait 'round for folks to show up at heroic locale. and tactical fps has us praying to infernal powers that mando raiders will require less than 2 hours and/or a half-dozen wipes. current hm fps is making us recall when hammer station were first made a hm fp with the level 55(?) increase... but replace every boss with the bonus boss.  took a couple months for folks to get gear or experience enough to make the hammer station bonus anything other than gulag.

for the time being, am more focused on getting 1-2 companions to 50 influence on most o' or characters.  the crafting and resource gathering bonuses for 50 influence is considerable. a 50 influence companion also makes possible to solo the star fortress stuff if need be.

is likely we create a new consular and do the esseles solo tactical fp approach to take full advantage o' qyzen influence before bioware alters/changes.

Wait what? I managed to solo the Heroic Star Fortress when my companion was only about influence 15. It's a bit of a grind, especially that last dragging point of facing down the Exarch (or at least, chasing them through the three rooms before the final battle), but it wasn't exactly problematic.

I haven't really focused large time on the game, but been slowly running through the weekly flashpoints once more. Have the specialists in the 15-16 range at the moment, and it's taking, what about 5 - 7 supply crates to go up a rank? I've got Lana to about 29 influence, a couple are around 20, and about another 5 or 6 are at 15 influence.

There's about 3 or 4 paladins to find to collect the set, and I haven't actually destroyed the Belsavis Star Fortress just yet.

Having your companion rank 50 makes it much, much faster. If you get the specialist items/abilities that become available at rank 10 it makes it even faster to burn through the knights, paladins, and exarchs and their bloated health pools. But there is an achievement for not using any items or the buff that you can get at the beginning of the SF, if you care about such things

I'm done with all the heroics on my main this week but I only got 1 specialist to 19 and the others still need 2 crates and then another 8 next week to hit 20. I guess I could grind out dailies try to get enough crystals to get them all to 19 and maybe a little over but I don't have the motivation right now

Is my wishing they make the specialists legacy wide too much to ask for? There is no way I can do this more than a couple of times. I don't mind the companions as much because I don't use most of them and it's easy enough to get them to a decent point

It is kind of funny to run around and see that any "side-mission" that they've turned into "exploration missions" is now available once more on all of the planets.

And it seems the Bonus series are as well? At least I accidentally picked up the Alderaan bonus section, and in fact that awarded me a couple of supply crates for the first few steps. Then it broke in that it points me to get a mission where the mission giver doesn't actually appear on the map.

And yes, I agree Shady, I do not see myself doing this full on grind for every character I have if/when I run them through the new content.

I ended up giving my sorc some crates from my marauder so now I'm all 20s for specialists.

And my marauder has been grinding BT and getting close to maxing out Vette. At first I was doing it in solo mode but it's pretty much the same speed in tactical and I get geared up in the process. Kudos to Grom for that

Also, having some weird issues where the companions I'm pretty sure I romanced don't take courting gifts anymore and my sorc didn't get the Pub droid or his droid back when my marauder did.

Tried out the black talon run with my old main (powertech). Got 4500 influence with Mako for being all nice. Yes, she's a bad influence on my bounty hunter.

Took a short break to pop on and run that Hoth Star Fortress once more, and now I have my last paladin to collect the set.

Heh, taking a moment to look at the Guild and seeing that pretty much all other members of it stopped playing at the same marks 2.5 and 1 year ago. Looks like my 4 Imp alts are the only members actually active as of the last 6 months - and of course, since everyone was in a twinned Republic guild, it looks pretty much the same on that side. I should probably clean it all up and kick everybody who hasn't been on in over a year. :p

You can't exactly advertise "Hey, want to join the guild where everyone else stopped playing?" ;)

Hm, thinking on Guilds, since I have a few characters on Harbinger now as well, any relevantly useful guild suggestions for joining on that server? I might create a few new toons over there to experiment with as time allow.s

I talked to Matt about Alliance, Companions, and your questions specifically related to accessing future Companions. Between this thread and the ones linked in the OP, I think there are two main questions you are looking to have addressed.

Will I need to complete currently available alert Missions to unlock future alert Missions?
As of right now, the answer to this is yes. Inside of each Alliance Companion type (Military, Underworld, etc), the Companion recruitment alerts are very much looked at like a Mission chain. Generally, you must complete one alert Mission before you will receive the next. Note that you only need to complete the Mission itself, not necessarily recruit any Companion associated with it. There may be exceptions to this later on, for story reasons, but this is the general rule right now. It is worth noting that this is something the dev team is talking about, so it could change, but this is how it works right now.

Will I need to PvP for future Companions / Will I need to unlock Companions like Pierce to access future Companions?
The answer to your question is maybe. We are open to the possibility of future PvP related Companions/Mission content which could require the completion of M1-4X/Pierce's Missions. That said, we would not likely have PvE related content require it.

I think that should answer the primary questions that you have! Let me know if anything requires further clarification. Thanks!

-eric

Looks like a lot of people aren't happy with that answer both PVE and PVPers
