SW: The Old Republic - Episode VII (J.J. Strikes Back)

Rumour has it that potentially you might be able to kill Gault when he turns up in the new story side of things.

One of the reasons they've changed companions so that they can be switched from dps/tank/heal roles is so they have the potential to kill off companions. Plus with the new story stuff, you end up with a crapload of fresh companions (of a sort) that you'll be able to use. Although only 6 or so I imagine will have serious depth to them.

And one of the key people in the new Alliance the Outlander sets up pretty much specifically states "if you see a Deveronian by the name of Gault or this or whatever alias he's using.. Shoot him."

So here's hoping.

On the other side of things, I actually spent a chunk of sunday and Monday running through every single Heroic on the Weekly Heroics terminal. Man, took me some, but the whole "transport to heroic" is a nice feature. Did net me a total of 20 Alien supply crates, 22 Artifact supply crates, 23 Military supply crates and 21 Smuggler supply crates...

The lower 3 bars of my inventory were filled with companion gifts...

we did all the heroics via the terminal and it still were not quite enough to get the alliance recruiters to level 10 influence.  were close to 10 on all 4 as we evened out the influence, but not quite.  is gonna be a mighty long haul to exhaust influence with the 4 main base npcs.

we also got our ithorian to 46 influence, but decided not to break our back attempting to hit 50.  got til januaryish before chapter 10, yes?

just for funsies, we spent some time leveling a sentinel.  went from 26 to 35 relative quick.  more impressive is how fast the influence meter increases with all the gift-giving and dialogue perks chosen... and even w/o 12x xp, you level fast in 4.0.  is easy to solo most heroics, so to level we were doing planet heroics (to keep us geared and save those now valuable basic comms) and the purple missions... and nothing else.  am not doing tactical fps at all.  and the thing is, if we wanted to genuine maximize influence, we would do every planetary mission, but we dont have the patience for such grinding... and am suspecting that we would hit 65 before we finished aderann if we did everything.  level adjustment means we cant over-level on a planet.  so, our sentinel, a character we have little genuine interest in playing as sentinels still seem sucktastic,  will have at least a handful o' companions near 40 influence by the time we hit 65, and we wont have needed to resort to costly gift giving antics to do so.  will still immediate boost to 20 influence via the cheap level 1 & 2 gifts, but at that point the massive and frequent dialogue opportunities becomes the major influence booster.  kira and t-7, in particular, is gonna be uber by time we hit 65.

...

as ridiculous as it sounds, am tempted to make our main a new character.  with all the legacy gear available, as well as observing the benefits o' universal mastery stat, am figuring it takes us a couple o' weeks to get a new character to 65 and through kotfe, as long as we play 90 minutes a day at least 5 days a week.  cant manage much more than 1 hour o' game time these days. so, am slight more than 2 weeks behind our bestest characters, and starting from scratch means all those juicy dialogue boosts wont be wasted.

hmmm.

might be worthy o' experiment. got two extra character slots after all.

HA! Good Fun!

I've been two-manning a lot of star fortresss and I've just about got all the paladins

I've been trying since last week to get in on an operation but the ops finder never pops for me

I've also thought about rolling a new character to get the most out of the influence system but I'm kinda struggling to get through KOTFE a second time around. Too much running in circles and killing waves of mobs. Now I'm thinking maybe the time would be better spent just grinding gifts at a high level but it's just so dull and I like the levelling process more than the end game gearing process

Edit- current status

Edit2- I think I will go ahead and make a new assassin either that or a sentinel which I don't have, only a marauder and 2 guardians

Edit3- leaning towards sentinel now because I ran run Esseles over and over again to help get influence up for T7. I can do the same imp side with BT but Khem likes the more DS options if I remember correctly

Edit4- finally picked up

Qyzen which now opens the door for Lokin

Hm, with the small influence you get from going through the story stuff and the supply crates I had from doing all those heroics and meeting the resistance leaders on the planets.. I had enough to reach influence 10  with all 4 of the recruiters.. and still have a couple of crates left over.

I haven't really hammered the influence system yet with my companions. I've got Lana up to around 21, Senya at 19, and the rest of the "main" core around 12-15. The rest are mostly in the 11-13 range.

I went and did the heroic Star Fortress with a 3 man group and that rushed through sweetly.

Can I play as a droid Bounty Hunter yet?

Or at least kill that Devaronian they try to force on me?

Regarding the first question, this is the closest I've come to achieving a complete droid look:

looksirdroids.jpg

However, since Bioware insists on randomly hiding headgear during cutscenes for that "cinematic" feel, the whole get up is sometimes fail. I wonder why don't they also hide, say, Darth Malgus' breathing mask during cutscenes?

As for the second question, that seems to be the direction they are going in, because everyone seems to have a NPC they want to kill badly.

Time to get back to my IA, forgot how much I hated the downloader for this - tells me percentage and speed but not total download size.

So this happened when I tried logging in.

I mean, what the actual ****...?

edit: hilariously, the estimated wait time went up, to 1h 10'.

edit 2: ah, it seems the queue was mostly F2P and pref players, the wait for subs turned out to be ~10'.

Still, I didn't see this with either RotHC or SoR, so I guess it's working for them...

I think this is the first time since launch that there was any freaking waiting time for an EU server.

About the topic of killing off your companions - that used to be possible in the Beta, e.g. it was possible for Sith Warriors to actually kill Quinn for his betrayal but players complained about the permanent death (there is no way to reload in an MMO obviously) and so Bioware removed it even though some story points clearly were meant for the option to be available.

Although having to "forgive" Quinn annoyed me less than having to oppose Baras. Quinn was absolutely right after all. Meh. I also will never understand why Malgus was squandered so easily during the base storyline. The CE even came with a miniature Malgus statue and then he's the boss of a 4 man instance?

Malgus was a wasted opportunity to do something more interesting

Well, the man wasn't necessarily killed. At least in the original version of the instance, anyway. The other high-profile character that is defeated in a FP and whose body was never found, ended up returning as a major player in a certain expansion...

Further, they haven't released Malgus' armor in the CM, and we got even Satele's. And then there's this, in case you missed it. So yeah, I think the odds are good that he'll make a (predictably lame) comeback. I wish they just had got it right the first time, dammit. Darth Marr is basically Malgus 2.0.

Illum was just a setback?

Back before I got in the Beta, I had such wonderful hopes for Bounty Hunter. The one thing I hoped is that I'd run around getting quests from Malgus, be the Boba Fett to his Darth Vader, the guy he calls on when he can't trust anyone in the Empire to do it right.

Nope, some stupid contest.

Yeah, I know. I threw him off the ledge myself a few days after the initial early access, and my friends and I yelled IT WAS MERELY A SETBACK in Team Speak and laughed because that was such an obvious setup, but he never came back.

At some point I'd love to see the original storyline roadmap as laid out by Mythic Bioware Austin. Rakata Prime was slated to be in 1.3 or 1.4 and Maked was supposed to be a summer content patch after all. Well, before all the players ran away beacuse they released an unfinished product. They probably thought they could do the same thing Blizzard did back when WoW came out but their content didn't last nearly long enough to pull that off.

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

Nope, some stupid contest.

Act III is more or less that, they just couldn't use Malgus and

retain the possibility of the player turning on their employer and killing him. Personally I thought that was really badly executed. "So you double-crossed and murdered your employer, who just happened to be a prominent Sith Lord, at the behest of the guy who put a deathmark on you? Oh well, on your way, citizen..."

I'd much have preferred that Malgus play a more central role in the BH story, at the expense of an otherwise hard to justify plot branch. Can't please everyone though. Beyond that, I really enjoyed the BH story. Much like the JC, it felt like the kind of story you'd expect in a PnP campaign. None of this destiny, chosen one, save the galaxy stuff.

I really enjoyed the BH story.

You and me are enemies for life.

To this day I can only think of the story as being Survivor: Star Wars edition with a bad guy who is the beach bully from those old mail order workout routine ads.

I don't know what that dude's problem was, but killing people I met 5 minutes ago is just being petty.

dunno if this has happened to anybody else, but for Gromnir, the heroic on makeb, savage skies, is repeatable Daily from the alliance terminal for supply crates.... which is nice seeing as how we cannot solo for the record.  is a couple heroics (counterstrike on makeb) that am gonna stop doing as they take far too much time.  being able to do daily savage skies would be a nice salve for our burning ocd.

am also gonna note, for those who is farming basic comms/crystals, the gsi heroics still provide 4 comms apiece, but the alderaan gsi heroic provides 8 comms.  all is repeatable daily.  the gsi weekly is... meh. 20 crystals and no elite or ultimate?  anywho, at the very least, is worth hitting the gsi heroics while on a planet for the supply crate missions... and we will likely do alderaan daily. also, while most o' the post 50 daily missions has had their rewards reduced, the black hole dailies is continuing to provide 4 crystals/comms per mission.

With the bouncing around on planets doing heroics, I finally actually wrapped up part of that macrobinocular chain.  I thought "finally, i'll get around to clearing that."  Got to Nar Shadaa, wen through the first batch of that Heroic 4 fairly easily - The whole jumping from air car to air car was a new and fun touch. Then I get to the hideout.. and find out you have to have a group to do it, because there are multiple clickied you need to press all at the same time.  >_<

I loathe these quest chains that are all single player up until the end point, and then it demands a group. Especially on these quirky quest chains that no-one seems to be at the same point on.

Doing heroics mostly

Next week I should be at max rep with the specialists since they are all about 16 right now. Slowly making progress on getting Pierce but 20 warzones is a lot. Most teams I get on hate me but not much I can do about that since PVP isn't my thing but I'm forced to do it to get a companion

It doesn't actually take that long. As long as you're on winning teams, you can get Pierce with 10 pvp matches.

Remember to pick up the Weekly pvp thing as well, completing that gives you a boost to his influence.

I think I've done about half the weekly heroics now, and with what I did last week, I've got three of the specialists up to 12 and one to 14.  It's that point where you need 4 crates to go up one rank.

11 straight losses before a win. The Republic tends to dominate PVP on my server... at least when I play... probably because I'm playing

I can't wait for the companions that you have to do GSF and space missions for

Don't miss the weekly droid quest for specialist rep if you haven't knocked that out yet. Also, you can trade common crystals for more crates.

Update - took 17 warzones to rack up 20 points

I haven't done PVP in a long time, but I know the feeling. PVP in this game can be pretty fun, but it can also suck major ass if you are the only mara/sent in a team with no healers, for instance. No matchmaking in regs is a terrible decision, but it's the price we pay for quick pops.

I guess it must be even worse now with people who would never otherwise PVP being "forced" into warzones for the alliance thing. And not just any PVP, but the 65 bracket, where they will be pitted against the fully geared premades and various regstars. Meh.

Exactly

I enjoy PVP occasionally but I haven't done any PVP on my Sorc since probably around level 40 so I have no expertise gear or comms or anything. I respecced for PVP because I didn't want to be a total drag on my teams but being "forced" back into PVP was definitely a drag. More than half the people I'm fighting with and against have PVP gear sets and valor levels out the wazoo which also makes it less fun because I don't really stand a chance against them. It was nice to run into a few others in my same boat but a total downer when people quit my team after inspecting me

Anyway, just need to wait for the rakghoul event to finish getting Lokin

Doing heroics mostly

we got 10 characters at +60, but only 3 is through chap 9 of kotfe. with the savage skies "bug," am much wishing we had all our high levels able to access the supply crate heroics.  am looking at potential 10 extra supply crates a day, but only so long as the savage skies mission is bugged. unfortunately, given our ocd, we have difficulty getting through kotfe intro material with the proper tempo.  as soon as we get a new story companion, we make certain to boost affection to level 20 through tier 1 gifts.  takes 20-30 minutes to do the traveling to fleet and buying of gifts and giving of gifts.  by making effective use o' early gift give, am adding an extra couple hours o' mind numbing gameplay to kotfe.

am doubting we have more than 5 or 6 characters through kotfe by tuesday, at which time we expect the bug will be addressed.

HA! Good Fun!

ps am also leveling an additional guardian to be seeing if we can get all companions to ~40 influence.

If I'm running a Republic character through KOFTE and I get Qyzen and T7 can I do Esseles with them for influence?

I only have Imps through it right now and you don't get any of the beginning companions so I can't test with Black Talon

yes.  get ~7000 influence per run.

shady's question got us thinking...

as silly as it sounds, doing solo esseles tactical flashpoints might be the ideal level option for a knight or consular-- nothing but esseles.  cant do any gathering worth mentioning, so you would need boost crafting through companion missions. as such you likely wanna have at least 3-4 total companions, but level all the way to 50 or even 60 doing little save esseles might be worth the effort.  solo tactical fp esseles grants better than 1 level per run til you hit 47-48.  that is not sooper-fast leveling as even a quick run o' esseles takes Gromnir maybe 30 to 40 minutes... not certain.  you also garner big influence with your starting comp.  you should be staying geared okie dokie 'cause all the boss 1007 drops is gonna be class appropriate, which is nice.

dunno.  on a couple characters we has spent a boat load o' credits and more than a few crystal/comms to boost influence o' a single companion to 50.  to be able to start kotfe with a companion at ~50 influence w/o having spent credits beyond the initial level 20 influence booster vial tier 1 gifts is an option worthy o' consideration.

on the negative side, other than the boss drops, credit and 1007 in tactical esseles is appropriate for a level 10 mission.  you are not gonna earn many creds by completing esseles.

is a few other drawbacks, but am serious considering esseles leveling.
