EG article on a early attempt at a Witcher game

I'm glad they sold the license to CDPR and wound up making Gorky 17 instead, which was a pretty good game.

As an aside, that's a pretty stylish violet outfit Geralt is wearing.

Just lol, guess that mod I linked in "what are you playing now" thread was just unlocking the game. The PC gods are angry, prepare to be smote Ubisoft, the little stings of SJW are nothing compared to the storm that is coming.

Heh, that stuff works. Had to disable DoF because it was horrible, but other than that I didn't noticed a worse performance.

I don't really know, as I haven't played the game nor have any interest to, but it doesn't paints a pretty picture of the gaming industry if the PC versions are being gimped.

But they apparently still use the superior capability of the PC to create the pretty sales screenshots and videos, oh the delicious irony...

Torment: Tides of Numenera delayed until god-knows-when Q4 2015, sorry.

As long as it comes out, I'm okay.

My sentiments exactly, I'm not concerned about any delay that the developers feel they need. At least this way we won't hear the famous " we had to release the game in the state its in due to pressures and expectations from Publishers who funded this game so we had no choice"

In most of these circumstances I'm happy to accept the reasons given and have no problem giving them all the time they need. At the same time, users really ought to be aware that it's not a given that any similar delays would be as well justified. It's all well and good to tell every developer out there to take their time and get it right, but it only takes one cynical dev to damage a lot of the goodwill out there.

Point is that while the vast majority of projects encounter delays for (hopefully) good reason, I wouldn't go so far as to say they all have free licence to repeatedly get away with poor project management or worse, purposeful deception. We should expect them to learn from these early experiences and not have these early teething issues turn into the norm for their future projects.

The way I see it, in regards to Kickstarters at least, is that they already have my money. They could go belly-up without releasing anything, that was the risk I accepted when I pledged.

So a delay is meaningless as long as the thing comes out. The only effect mismanagement in the case of a Kickstarter could do, at this point, is keep me from pledging from future Kickstarters by that company or persons involved.

For those that aren't familiar with the some of the important game design decisions around the new Torment game here is the first part of a detailed interview from RPS

Guys you seriously have to take a look at this and see how much better GTA V looks on PS4 than PS3

Let's hope it's better optimized than the GTA4 PC port so that I don't have to get another 780Ti just to get it to a good framerate on medium settings.

:p

“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."
