Azdeus
You sure it's not Activision? 3 Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Lexx
The Stomping Land is on Steam arly access now and... Holy Batman. It looks cool on the shop page, but I regret every minute I've spend on it. By god, this isn't even pre-alpha. This game is an early prototype at maximum. It takes like 10 minutes to see all available content and then that's it. 23 Euro for this, seriously? In this case, "early access" really just means pay for testing a game that might or might not ever get turned into something that isn't a turd. If I'd be one of the developers, I'd be embaressed to show this in public already. I feel that I am slowly drifting into the "early access == Bullshait" camp. VALVe needs to man up and kick such crap from their store. It can become available again as soon as it actually does have some real value, but right now... And it's not the only example. There are some games on Steam now where I wonder how the hell they managed it to get through. Blarghagh
Interestingly enough, The Stomping Land is doing an experiment where they phase in content that is already complete to test the balance, or some such. All that did was convince me not to buy it yet - and convincing me not to buy a game with dinosaurs in it is quite a feat.

Yes, of course, that's how you can call it as well if you'd like to. Well, right now it's a waste of money. And considering how such games usually work out, I'll guess it will take at least 2 years till you could consider buying it. Oner
Kind of rather tempted.. How much story does the average Civ game have? Malcador
None really, I think out of all the Sid games of that type only SMAC had some kind of narrative with the talking to planet stuff. For the most part, it's just like every 4X game where you make your own history if you want. 1 Why has elegance found so little following? Hurlshort
I'm a big fan of story, but honestly I've never really noticed they are missing in the Civ games. There is just too much to do, and the personal story that develops around your actions is pretty dang rich.

Malcador
Aww shucks. I like my stories. Thanks for the heads-up though. Fun to make your own, I am weird so I do that for my wars and relations with other nations. My sheltering of Egypt against Persian aggression, later toppling Persia from top dog in a war that left the Middle Eat a smoking ruin for decades and finally my grinding march East against China and the epic sieges of Tokyo and Bielefeld. 1 Why has elegance found so little following?
