May 18, 201411 yr Hello everybody, I respect and understand the decision to make PoE a single-player formatted title... But what about an MMORPG of the same style game? Say something similar to EVE or WoW at $15/month to enjoy years of the PoE universe. I know several players already that play MMO's and are already enjoying the beta of a soon-to-release Wildstar. They were huge IWD and BG fans and I'm sure if they had a choice of something like this, they'd bite. Just a penny for your thoughts.
May 19, 201411 yr They are helping with one MMO and making another one. Keep Pillars of Eternity SP focused.
May 21, 201411 yr There's a billion boring MMORPG's out there. We don't need more of those, we need more quality SP CRPGs.
May 21, 201411 yr Video games take time to make. MMOs even more-so. MMOs require constant money-funneling for servers and gameplay changes. The infastructure for an MMO is vastly bigger than that of a SP game. They already are making one and half-making another. They have a full plate already with Armored Warfare, Skyforge(?), the PoE expansion, possible South Park DLC, and this unannounced title possibly to be announced at E3. They only have 180 people working there.
May 23, 201411 yr Not to be rude or anything, but... May 24, 201411 yr A MMORPG of recent years is to a SP CRPG of good old IE-standards like a cool dude that surprise everyone with a shave after all those years:So all old RPGs are just as shallow, empty and trivial as the new ones, and their richness and depth was just a shallow facade?
May 24, 201411 yr How would you make a real-time with pause MMO anyway? What happens if a player pauses the game and then just leaves? Is the entire server stuck? "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
May 24, 201411 yr I guess you could instance each combat encounter, like they do with conversations in most MMO's.
May 24, 201411 yr I guess you'll just have to do it using the honour system. Call time outs when you need to change something. :D L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G
May 24, 201411 yr There's a billion boring SP CRPGs out there. We don't need more of those, we need more quality MMORPG's. No there isn't. There's hardly one from the past two years. And MMORPG's are boring per definition as ninety percent of the players only wants to "hunt", five percent wants to cyber and for the rest it is just to steep an uphill climb to even attempt to roleplay.
May 24, 201411 yr No, just no... OE already made themselves a laughing stock by working on not one, but 2 useless MMO's already... do you want them to be the MMO-factory of mediocrity? ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. May 24, 201411 yr The World of Darkness MMO sounded kinda interesting, before it got shelved...But an MMO certainly isn't anything I would want Obsidian to work on..
May 25, 201411 yr "No there isn't. There's hardly one from the past two years. And MMORPG's are boring per definition as ninety percent of the players only wants to "hunt", five percent wants to cyber and for the rest it is just to steep an uphill climb to even attempt to roleplay." \CRPGs - SP or otherwise- is fake role-playing and nothing like pnp. MMORPGs are no differen for the most part. NWN is the game that came the closest to true RPing. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
May 25, 201411 yr Volourn: Indeed. Nothing beats NWN as far as RPGing on computers go. A MMORPG of recent years is to a SP CRPG of good old IE-standards like a cool dude that surprise everyone with a shave after all those years:So all old RPGs are just as shallow, empty and trivial as the new ones, and their richness and depth was just a shallow facade? You certainly got me there! Well, perhaps one can argue that inside that head it's always just code, scripts and ones and zeros, so it's empty anyway. Computer games are all about that cool façade, but in the case of good old CRPGs that façade wasn't shallow, but very deep and intricate, whereas in most MMORPGs, it's just smooth like baby cheeks. *** "The words of someone who feels ever more the ent among saplings when playing CRPGs" ***
May 25, 201411 yr i would not say no to an mmo in the world of PE, but that is something to be left for later... much later. and in case they do make one, it should be something a bit different than the usual wow clones or grindy copy paste korean mmos... otherwise they should expect a mob with pitchforks and torches ouside their offices The words freedom and liberty, are diminishing the true meaning of the abstract concept they try to explain. The true nature of freedom is such, that the human mind is unable to comprehend it, so we make a cage and name it freedom in order to give a tangible meaning to what we dont understand, just as our ancestors made gods like Thor or Zeus to explain thunder. -Teknoman2- What? You thought it was a quote from some well known wise guy from the past? Stupidity leads to willful ignorance - willful ignorance leads to hope - hope leads to sex - and that is how a new generation of fools is born! We are hardcore role players... When we go to bed with a girl, we roll a D20 to see if we hit the target and a D6 to see how much penetration damage we did. Modern democracy is: the sheep voting for which dog will be the shepherd's right hand.
May 29, 201411 yr OE already made themselves a laughing stock by working on not one, but 2 useless MMO's already... From who?
May 29, 201411 yr I echo Bryy. What's this 'laughing stock' nonsense? That comment makes absolutely no sense. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
May 29, 201411 yr Sure, a few people find it weird. I myself find it strange. But it makes sense for the progression of a company, and this has not made them an outcast of the industry.
May 29, 201411 yr No. There are too many useless MMOs around already. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."

May 29, 201411 yr From who?Pretty much every RPG-fan I know/RPG-forums that talks about Obsidian/It's announcement thread here/probably more places Nonesense Bewilderment at the announcement? Yes. Unhappiness with the direction? Yes. (Though, its something temporary) But, not suddenly a laughing stock. Edited May 29, 201411 yr by C2B
May 29, 201411 yr I don't understand the laughing stock comment either. I can't wait to try out Armored Warfare. For me it shows that if a company like Obsidian can do multiple genres of games and still release rpgs, then I think that's a credit to the talent Obsidian has and a great commitment to the rpg community and fans to continue to release rpgs. I'm all for that and I'll likely try out their other games that aren't in the rpg genre. And it seems by the Armoried Warfare forums, there's a lot of buzz for the game especially since the latest trailer came out yesterday which looks like actual game footage.
May 29, 201411 yr I also don't understand the laughing stock comment, since working on games means they have a money influx, somewhere in the pipeline. Which can only be good for an independent studio. I think that would be better than what happened with Troika which, IIRC, ended one game's development only to find they couldn't get anyone else to take up any of their pitches for new games. I have no interest in any kind of MMORPG, but if it helps them and they still are making games I'm interested in outside of those games...why would I care? People get bent out of shape over the weirdest things. I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
