Hassat Hunter Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Someone wants to give me a hand with Tombraider? The first QTE to be exact... I mash left and right proper, then 2 circles with the outside closing in appear and... I have no clue what to do and Lara always gets crushed by a rock. Help? ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. At least top 5. Keyrock Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 The combat in the Elder Scrolls games has always been dreadful and it really hasn't improved one bit. The allure of the Elder Scrolls games has always been exploring and dicking around, the combat is just the crap you have to deal with from time to time that gets in the way of the exploring and dicking around. Drowsy Emperor Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Ah, the counter-intuitive symbols that mean absolutely nothing. I think you have to mash F, supposedly the animation doesn't correspond with the input but there is no penalty for mashing the button, but I'd google the shape if I were you. melkathi Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 I can't seem to find the post now but someone had asked about the state of Sacred 2. If you get the gold edition which includes the expansion and then get the latest community patch, then you'll be fine. I really haven't run across any bugs and no crash to desktops so far. I'm even able to run physics in the game options which wasn't even remotely a possibility at launch. For some reason this game always holds a special place in my gaming library because I am always hoping that these developers will one day make another game like this without the bugs and without the need of a community patch. Sacred 3 is comming out later this year. Hope it's good. Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).

Despite getting a red X the mashing F thing worked. Thanks. HoonDing Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Only issue I had with Tomb Raider QTE was with the Russian rapist. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Drowsy Emperor Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 That was very annoying, I had to replay that scene at least 15 times. I ultimately gave up on the game when it became a full on shooter somewhere in the second half. The new Tomb Raider is very much a case of an amusement park ride - you will stick to the pre-defined experience or some piece of machinery will cut your head off. Its got many good things going for it in the technical department but the gameplay is too shooter oriented and linear. I wonder why QTE's are necessary in the minds of developers. I'd much rather watch a well choreographed cinematic than be stressed out because I might miss a key and then have to watch the damn thing again. Even when I hit the key I feel the game is treating me like an idiot. Its so lose-lose on the user experience end, there's no explaining why they bother with them in the first place. 3 И погибе Српски кнез Лазаре,И његова сва изгибе војска, Седамдесет и седам иљада;Све је свето и честито билоИ миломе Богу приступачно.
Wrath of Dagon Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 QTE's worked great in Shenmue, other than that I don't seem to play the type of games that utilize QTE's. "Moral indignation is a standard strategy for endowing the idiot with dignity." Marshall McLuhan
Keyrock Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) QTEs are fine when they're reserved for non essential mini-games or when they are used to enhance actions, rather than as a live or die mechanic. The Last Remnant, for example, uses QTEs about as well as any game I've ever seen use QTEs. Torture Porn Raider's use of QTEs falls into the category of adding nothing but frustration to the gaming experience. It's as if the devs thought to themselves "We have these cool, yet uncomfortable cinematics, how can we inject a healthy dose of frustration into this?" sorophx Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 QTE aren't fine. it's a flawed mechanic, it's a designers' cop out: instead of making the game actually react to players actions, make the player react to a set piece. in worst cases QTEs aren't even doing anything. fail? no prob, game keeps going. in best cases they are actually meaningful and give you several options (example: dialogue in Alpha Protocol, that's how all QTEs should be done). and even AP's "QTEs" I didn't like. but at least they didn't punish you too much. some games made me tear my hair in frustration with their ****ty QTEs. any designer that falls back on QTEs for action or interactivity is a dumbass and shouldn't be paid for his "services" 1 Walsingham said: I was struggling to understand ths until I noticed you are from Finland. Interesting - thanks for the tip I'd seen the UNSACRED announcement but couldn't find anything else - turns out the name is now UNBENDED - http://www.unbended.de/ I might buy Sacred 3 if it turns out to be interesting because I like action RPGs, but right now it seems kind of generic. Definitely a different approach to the game series, ditching the open world. Seems almost more CHAMPIONS OF NORATH than old Sacred. Edited May 5, 2014 by Amentep I cannot - yet I must. Tale Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Played a bit of System Shock 2. The respawning is annoying. One time I walked down a hallway and it seemed like the hybrid respawned right behind me out of nowhere. And that was my first encounter with the respawning so I had no clue why it was happening. But then I started running around lost and had respawned from where I killed them 10 minutes ago. So that was kind of disappointing. Amentep Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) I dunno, maybe it'll be "Unbent" by the end of production? IndiraLightfoot Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Unbended is like an archaic form of "unbent", but it doesn't help. It's a pretty hideous name. Somehow it sounds like some Christian fanatic pamphlet for zealots hell-bent on "curing" homosexuals. 1 *** "The words of someone who feels ever more the ent among saplings when playing CRPGs" ***
Nonek Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Surely the word the developers are looking for is "Unbowed" or "Unbroken." At the moment it sounds like a Futurama game. Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin. Tea for the teapot!

IndiraLightfoot Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) Hmm. After having thought about it some more, it seems obvious they've just literally tried to translate a German word "unbändig", which means, amongst other things: irrepressible, something or someone that cannot be suppressed, held back or put down, voracious. Amentep Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) So, is it like Gothic 4 vs Risen? Sacred 3 made by somebody, while ex devs make Unbended? Yeah, Deep Silver (who bought the Sacred 3 IP) has Keen Games working on Sacred 3; former Ascaron developers are doing Unbendend (Franz Stradal being the only one I know for sure is on it, as he did the interview I linked).
