Blarghagh Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Wait, so Shredder and April O'Neill's dad made the turtles? My girlfriend's reaction was: "Gross, what is wrong with their faces?" although she may have been referring to Megan Fox' new face, which is faker than the Turtles.
LadyCrimson Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 I saw that recent Jason Statham movie, Homefront. It was .... a Jason Statham movie. I was a little disappointed that James Franco wasn't actually the true "bad guy" - more like the idiotic local yoohoo who thinks he'll profit from bringing in some (non-local) badguys to pester Jason. Also ... Winona Ryder? Really? Interesting. I'm pretty sure there was never a sequel to The Breakfast Club. St. Elmo's Fire yw not a direct sequel, but a 'spiritual' one It's not written or directed by John Hughes. Despite having some of the same actors, I don't even consider it a spiritual sequel ... I barely remember it, actually. I don't think I thought it was awful, but it didn't have much impact on me either. “Things are as they are. Volourn Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 New TMNT certainly cna't be any worse than the original. Plus, they have a much hotter O'Neal this time. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
HoonDing Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 TMNT 2 & 3 were utter crap. Bay is the right man for this kind of cheesy action movies. As long as LeBoeuf isn't in it. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Orogun01 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I don't know why they felt the need to say it was a Michael Bay film, the falling building was dead giveaway. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
Blarghagh Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) Michael Bay isn't actually directing this. Jonathan Liebesman of Battle: Los Angeles has taken up that role. Bay is only producing. I still enjoy the original TMNT film. It could be nostalgia, but other than it being dated and being in desperate need for a spotlight (MAN it's dark) I think it still holds up fairly well for a kids film. It's got a lovely multilevel plot with strong themes of fatherhood and brotherhood and the puppets look a sure sight more convincing than those CG monstrosities (and this is coming from someone who generally supports CG in films), it's incredibly quotable and some of the jokes still crack me up, ("You're a claustrophobic!" "I'll kick your ass! I've never even looked at another man before!") and the characterisation and character dynamic is solid. I mean, it's not perfect and like many special effects heavy films of the time it's now very slow. I gotta disagree that the new April is better looking too, since Megan Fox hasn't been attractive since she replaced her entire face with cheekbones. Such a shame, since she was gorgeous in Transformers. Edited March 27, 2014 by TrueNeutral 2

Keyrock Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 My biggest problem with it is that, although I'm sure they'll throw in a few jokes, it look like this is going to be yet another Dark and Gritty™ reboot. TMNT isn't supposed to be Dark and Gritty™, it's supposed to be lighthearted and fun. Why must every single reboot these days, and lord knows we're getting more than our share of reboots, be Dark and Gritty™? Blarghagh Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) Actually, the original TMNT comics were pretty gritty and violent as a parody of the comics of the time, such as Frank Miller's stuff. Most of the humor came from overplaying the seriousness. They straight up murdered the Shredder in the first issue if I recall. Not saying you're wrong, the TMNT that became a worldwide hit was lighthearted and fun and that's how I prefer my TMNT, but that was actually a departure by itself. Keyrock Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) Yeah, I never read the comics. To be honest, I never knew there was a TMNT comic until you mentioned it just now. My introduction to TMNT was the cartoon in the late 80s. Sadly, the chances are probably pretty low that we'll get a Vanilla Ice rap in the new TMNT movie. Go ninja, go ninja, go! ManifestedISO Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I, uh, watched The Dark Knight Rises ... Selina Kyle's ass-kickery was really the only redeeming quality. All Stop. On Screen.
Amentep Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Well, her action outfit was also pretty much a plus as well, to me at least. I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
LadyCrimson Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 The only TMNT I remember watching was the late 80's cartoon. Which was kinda cute, but I didn't see much of it. But just enough to remember that silly theme song and to dislike the newer ways of drawing them. “Things are as they are. Bryy Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Dear lord, he's actually going through with this https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=nCjsWpM9zFU It looks fine to me. A bit overdramatic but decent. I just finished the Hunger Games. I thought it was going to be Twilight with Guns. Instead what I got was Pure Awesome. I'm going to read the books now. I'm assuming they read like the young adult books of the mid-90s.
Woldan Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Wait, so Shredder and April O'Neill's dad made the turtles? What the hell happened to hear? I gazed at the dead, and for one dark moment I saw a banquet.

End of the first arc they kill Shredder. The rooftop garbage truck fall from the first movie was how he died in the comics. The 2003 cartoon series took its stories mostly from the comics, lightened for kids. And the movie that capped it off: Turtles Forever, ripped on the 80s cartoon and the comics. I highly recommend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxhGr_Worhw Edited March 28, 2014 by Oerwinde The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.
