Guest Slinky
I grabbed the deluxe edition of Far Cry 3 yesterday and even at £6 I feel a bit ripped off, I want to like the game but all kinds of visual issues and stutter are spoiling it, worst of all the mouse and keyboard input feels floaty and weird, not the best port The weird controls you are having is most likely because the negative mouse acceleration the game has. Just another case of devs not having a clue about the differences of controllers and KB&M. These days I almost burst in tears of joy if I run across a game that doesn't have any kind of mouse acceleration crap, or heaven forbid, an actual on/off button for it in options! There are registry edits that disable it system-wide, I believe. Quote How I have existed fills me with horror. Gorth
Got my latest purchases downloaded. Went as far as trying to start Dark Souls before uninstalling it again and wrote it off as a complete loss. Starts up in windowed mode (any menus if it got any, outside the visible area), warns not to switch off because it uses save points (WTF? This is the 21st century) and the single dooming feature of insisting that I create a new GFWL account... gave it the middle finger and got rid of it again. At least it was dirt cheap. I'm guessing that they might work if the game uses some windows way to use mouse acceleration and not if it uses some ingame way.
WDeranged
You can disable the mouse acceleration in game but it doesn't really help with the slippery disconnected feeling, playing on a pad immediately feels right and that's a shame, I'm going to spend an hour with the game when I get home to see if I can't salvage some fun from it. Guest Slinky
That's because the mouse acceleration setting in options does not disable the negative mouse acceleration, which is just great. This might help: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Thread:Talk:Far_Cry_3/Negative_Mouse_Acceleration_Fix Thanks mate, I'll check that fix out later. If I can sort out the controls and figure out why I'm getting microstutter and huge geometric lighting glitches I might just be able to enjoy this thing. entrerix
i always wondered about the controls for far cry 3, i eventually got over it, but they felt "off" the whole time i played the game Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete. Keyrock
What's up with the fan cover frame? I though Far Cry 3 had 8 or 8.5 graphics at least. That cover looks like 4, maybe 5 graphics at most. Yeah I'm sorry to say this as I know it can be annoying when you having issues with a game but I had no issues with Far Cry 3 and I used M\Kb the whole time. Also my graphics did look much better than that, in fact I would say the graphics were one of the strong points of the game. The whole world seemed lush and beautifully rendered but I was able to run everything on max settings. Hope I got luckier with Mortal Kombat and Enslaved Dark Souls almost constantly saves. Open your inventory? Saved. Defeat a mook? Saved. Rest at a bonfire? Saved. The windowed thing is kinda weird. It always starts up in windowed mode for some reason even if you set it to fullscreen. It'll switch over at some point during the initial loading. I have the intro videos disabled so I don't remember the exact point it swaps over anymore. The menus being outside the visible area isn't something I've experienced so I can't comment on that. GFWL does suck. I don't think they've said what they are going to do when the service shuts down yet, but since the sequel is supposed to be using Steamworks it's possible they might swap it over after they get Dark Souls 2 finished. It's a good game, but kind of a mediocre piece of software. DSfix/DSCFix/DSMFix help with some of the annoyances, but you can't exactly mod out GFWL sadly. Blodhemn
Is Tomb Raider really that fun? I'll probably just wait for the next sale to get it, but I've briefly read it's somewhat like the Uncharted games. If so, sounds good to me.
Raithe
It depends on what you're looking for. It's got that Uncharted/Far Cry 3 style of run around, a little bit of exploration, a bit of hunter gathering, get xp from killing things, improve weapons, improve skills, loose plotline holding it together. It does have a few semi torture-porn moments, and a couple of annoying QTE's, but I found it mostly entertaining for that. If you were expecting Tomb Robbing, it doesn't really do that. But then, it's basically a prequel for how she became the hard bitten killing machine with an interest in weird archaeology. "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum." They can't be that exclusive if they're selling them outside of Steam's marketplace. Natural Selection I guess excluded. The trouble I'm seeing is, is that getting into a Humble Bundle used to mean offering up a DRM-free version. Some games were for DRM-free for the first time because of it. Someone else pointed out that they used to also have to offer it in multiple platforms. Not anymore. They're turning into just another Steam bundler. Oh well. More money not spent. Hmm, well I never played much of the original Tomb Raider games, not that I didn't like them but just never cared to play a female character back then so I wouldn't have any expectations of what a Tomb Raider game should be. But Uncharted/Far Cry 3? Unless they changed the formula for FC3, those are two fairly different type games - one is 3rd person pushed harder by a story and the other an FPS with sandbox gameplay. I'd definitely prefer the former, as I'm bored to death of most sandbox type games at this point. I'm guessing it is more in line with Uncharted, though? But they are pretty cool when you find them. I thought the game play mechanics were fun (apart from the QTE), but the general level design was a bit of a letdown. You've got this game based around jumping and climbing, and still more or less all levels force you down a pre-determined path. I'd have liked some more freedom of movement. It was fun though.
