Guest Slinky Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) (don't get me started on TR - Anniversary, it was so bad I found it offensive) Really? How come? It's not as good as the original, but still about bazillion times better than legends which was boring as hell badly made shooter. Haven't still tried underworld even though I have owned it for years. Not going to touch the new QTE Raider unless I get it for free, maybe not even then. Anniversary did streamline pretty badly my favourite level of TR (Tomb of Tihocan), but I thought the game otherwise was fun and atmospheric. I was the opposite. I found it completely lacked in atmosphere. Large levels meant to be explored were reduced to corridors and badly implemented combat was implemented for combat sakes and contrived boss battles added for boss battles sake (to ensure that it was completely cliche and formulaic), not because it made any sense. I think I mostly resent it because the original was an exploration game and anniversary a mediocre corridor shooter with tiny, cramped levels (and don't get me started on QTE's, at least the original had some nice FMV's for it's time, even if they look naive by 2013 standards). Never made it to the "Atlantis" levels, uninstalled it in disgust 2/3 of the way through and completed a game of the original instead. Just *so* much more fun, low polygon gfx included. Hehe, pretty much exactly what I felt about Legend, damn that game pissed me off. When it was announced, it's web page had the original TR theme playing on the backround and I thought they were going to do something similar to that game. What a rude awakening that turned out to be. Anniversary felt like an excellent game after that. It's been too long since I played the original the last time, time to correct that and get playstation emulator up and running! Edited September 13, 2013 by Slinky
Monte Carlo Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Hardly anything. Have been pretty busy. All I've fitted in is a bit of Diablo 3 and a quick game of vanilla CoH with Wals.
Keyrock Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) Crystal Dynamics have never made a good proper Tomb Raider game. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is their best effort, but that's not really a core Tomb Raider game. Frankly, the reboot, Torture Porn Raider, isn't really a core Tomb Raider game either. I guess Underworld is the closest they've come to making a good proper Tomb Raider game, by default. Gfted1 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Got my Demon Hunter up to level 44. I just landed an awesome crossbow. So much damage (plus additional stats), plus the fact it's a one-handed weapon so I can equip something strong in my other hand at the same time. At first, I thought level 60 was out of the question, figuring it would take too long. At this rate, I should reach 60 by the weekend. FYI, you can still use an offhand quiver even when using a 2-handed crossbow. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"

SadExchange Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Got my Barb to lvl 59 last night and looking forward to some paragon leveling and the gear to follow. Still enjoying it and think that while D3 is from the pc, it feels "right" on the console with the control and feel. Mostly soloed the first couple of runs, but the MP so far has been much than the pc so far. Instead of the mad dash to the end that happens when I try MP on the pc, usually on the console so far, it's been good pacing and loot finding. Also saw that the new Grim Dawn update has been released, so may try that out.

(got myself Anachronox, Omikron and Urban Chaos instead) Whaaaat? No Daikatana? But yeah, slim pickings from the Eidos catalogue on GOG (it's interesting how people, including myself, reflexively use a lower-case 'o' there). Only own DX, Anachronox and the Thief games previously, and the only title I'd consider adding now is Omikron (because games need more David Bowie) As for the topic, started a new New Vegas game for the first time since my umpteenth attempt at a second runthrough almost a year ago was aborted. It's about time I righted the wrong of having done nothing but the base game yet. L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G
melkathi Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I already owned Startopia which is one of my favourid games. Omikron was just such an ambitious project, it would feel wrong to get all those other old games and leave it out of the collection. Keyrock Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Some good games in that GOG sale. I'm going to scoop up Anachronox myself, possibly Thief 2 also, just so I don't have to look for my physical copy. I was more commenting on the option to use a second weapon is there since my current one is a one-handed one. GhostofAnakin Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 You'll get it before I finish my revives, largely because I'm not sure when (if) I'll play Defiance again. entrerix Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Playing Oblivion on and off. It's better than Skyrim but not better than Morrowind with Overhaul mod. whoa, i don't think i've seen anyone who liked oblivion better than skyrim just curious, what things do you feel were better handled in oblivion? Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.
Tale Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Oblivion has better major quests. And better enemy variety. And that's the only nice thing I can say about it. 1 "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Guest Slinky Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Oblivion has oscuro's oblivion overhaul mod, that alone makes it better than skyrim Few things can destroy my will to play as good as level scaling enemies. But to be fair I understand it's existense, I'm not sure would I make a multimillion game that is hardest at the beginning of the game. The masses would very likely cry a river how they can't destroy everything from the start and leave the game to rot on the shelves.

HoonDing Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) Oblivion has better major quests. And better enemy variety. And that's the only nice thing I can say about it. Well it also has Shivering Isles, better magic, spellmaking, and lack of Ahnuld. Edited September 13, 2013 by Drudanae The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Keyrock Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Shivering Isles is the best thing Bethesda has ever developed. True story. If only the Oblivion main game was even 50% as good. 1 RFK Jr 2024 "Any organization created out of fear must create fear to survive." - Bill Hicks
Blarghagh Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) I just got around to playing Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs for the first time (birthday season keeps me busy) and it terrified me like no game since the original has. It's more subtle, not so many overt monster encounters and more things getting under your skin. I found a drawer full of dentures and broken glasses. What the hell? Definitely less gamey than The Dark Descent, there are almost no gameplay elements other than fetch this item to use it here so you can open this door - the "puzzles" are more like roadblocks forcing you to explore and feel the atmosphere. Oh, the atmosphere! The music and sound design in this game is fantastic! Though it hasn't scared me quite as much as the original, a lot of elements are far better. entrerix Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 i didn't think much of shivering isles, I'd say Morrowind was the best thing to come out of bethesda even when they produce a "bad" game, like oblivion, i still end up playing the heck out of it though, so i'd take a "bad" bethesda game any day of the week Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. HoonDing Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Skyrim really just doesn't have any good quests at all. Faction quests and main quests are all railroaded nonsense, and town quests + Daedric quests are almost all inferior to Oblivion. The proof in the pudding for me will be Failout 4. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
WDeranged Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) I'm very much looking forward to Fallout 4, god I hope they haven't stripped out too much this time. I think Fallout 3 was actually Bethesda's best game, Morrowind had the best setting/story/lore but the gameplay kinda sucks, with Fallout they built a very explorable world and a load of gameplay mechanics to mess with, yeah the plot was thin at points but at least it was fun. Shivering Isles is the best thing Bethesda has ever developed. True story. If only the Oblivion main game was even 50% as good. I loved the Shivering Isles, it's like they learned their lesson from Oblivion and tried really damn hard with it, and as much as I love Skyrim I do feel it's lacking the extra something that made even Oblivion special Edited September 13, 2013 by WDeranged

But Oblivion's scaling is so broken for me that the game becomes unplayable at points. Not in a "this game sucks, that makes it unplayable." But in a "why is nobody taking any damage, I'm stuck in this oblivion gate with nowhere to go." "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Hurlshort Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Fallout 3 is the only Bethesda game I've ever finished. So I'll give that an edge. But it could just be I prefer the Post Apoc. setting to their fantasy one. 1
