kinemitor Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Did anyone noticed there are only 9 month left for estimated delivery, so i can guess from now, they will have to skip that date. I know there is a bunch of stuff to do
C2B Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) Did anyone noticed there are only 9 month left for estimated delivery, so i can guess from now, they will have to skip that date. I know there is a bunch of stuff to do I don't think they work with that date internally for a while now (Was that changed at a time or is that still based on the initial goal, btw?) Other than that, another 11-12? months to get this thing done doesn't seem to be that impossible. Edited July 21, 2013 by C2B

Pshaw Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 You know I kind of felt that there was no way the Wasteland 2 was going to be hitting its goal of Q4 2013, it seemed like they still had a lot left to do. Then yesterday-ish they sent out a backer update with their progress and they're looking to go to beta at the start of October and still plan on launching this year. So it can be hard to gauge these things from the outside since we really can only know as much as they tell us.I think PE will probably be a little late, maybe as much as 3-4 months, but I don't think we've got a double fine adventure type situation going on here. K is for Kid, a guy or gal just like you. Don't be in such a hurry to grow up, since there's nothin' a kid can't do.
Hassat Hunter Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 The release day was set without any of the additional goals, like stronghold, second city, so no I wouldn't be surprised if it got pushed back. Heck, I would be GLAD if it was pushed back. Last thing we need is OE's flagship Kickstarter game to have the same rushed issues several other OE-games have, so they finally break the stigma some gamers associate with the company... 3 ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. Keyrock Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 They can go ahead and delay to X-Mas 2014 and I'll be fine with that. Give me a quality product and I'll gladly wait. 2 RFK Jr 2024 "Any organization created out of fear must create fear to survive." - Bill Hicks
PK htiw klaw eriF Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I want them to take their time with PE. I would actually prefer a mid-summer or winter 2014 release date, because with playing the other KS games, replaying the classics, having a GF/social life, working out, work, and working on my degree, I don't have that much time on my hands. Nonek Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Christmas 2014 sounds good, pack the missus and kids off to the family, and spend my holiday in the Dyrwood. Seriously though given the mega dungeon and second city, a substantial delay is perfectly understandable. 1 Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin. Tea for the teapot!
lolaldanee Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) it's about time they anounce the delay nothing wrong with saying "it'll take us roughly half a year longer, no exacte time possible blablabla" avoids a lot of stupid speculation but i guess more important would be some info how that backer site is going... THAT one is really overdue Edited July 21, 2013 by lolaldanee
Semper Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) it's about time they anounce the delay imo that's impossible right now. they have not finished both the vertical slice and the production pipeline for the environment art yet, so everything up until now are just wild guesses. they'll keep the estimated date of the kickstarter until everything is set in stone. Edited July 21, 2013 by Semper
C2B Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I doubt it will take till christmas. August-October 2014 is my guess.

Sarex Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) This was already talked about, there will be a delay but not too big of a one. Why? Because delays cost money, ie. paychecks for the people who are working on the game. So in short they can develop the game as long as they can (which I'm sure they will do), but only if it's within their budget. moridin84 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Hmm I guess it's fine to have a delay. The problem is that if you keep thinking that, things will spiral out of control. I understand this as a software developer myself. If you give me two weeks to do it I'll get it done it two weeks, if you give up three weeks to do that same thing I'll get it done in three weeks. I'd just use that extra week to add things here and there. . Well I was involved anyway. The dude who can't dance.

Micamo Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I've said it before and I'll say it again: If you're seriously expecting to see this game before 2016, you need professional help.
Cultist Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 A CNNMoney examination of the top 50 most-funded projects on Kickstarter found that 84% missed their target delivery dates.
Karkarov Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 You guys are insane. I expect the game on time or an official announcement saying that won't happen. If it isn't out by fall-early winter 2014 someone is seriously dropping the ball. Once you finish making the resources, creating the story, and making sure everything "works", all you have to do is assemble it, add final touches, and do some bug testing. I am pretty sure they are on the "make sure it works" part right now with the vertical slice.
Kaldurenik Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I would rather have them push it back if they need more time to work on the game. Im sure there will be a few people that will cry on the forum saying that the world will end and how the devs are evil people and blah blah blah. But aslong as the game is good when its released people wont care. Good game means that they will sell more and people will talk about it more and so on. Make a bad one and well they will have killed their reputation. So take the time needed to make it good / great!
WorstUsernameEver Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I've said it before and I'll say it again: If you're seriously expecting to see this game before 2016, you need professional help. With what money would they fund 2 extra years of development? I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if they delay it compared to the estimated release date, in fact I'm expecting it, because it was an estimate made when they still didn't have a prototype running in Unity, didn't have the pipelines all set, and weren't expecting to get that much more compared to the $1.1 million target goal. A delay of *that* magnitude however is quite improbable.

AW8 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Honestly, I'm hoping they will cancel it and file for bankruptcy. Will teach them to mess with me. Batman: [intimidate] "Let her go". Joker: [Failure] "Very poor choice of words."

I am pretty sure they are on the "make sure it works" part right now with the vertical slice. If only game development was ever that easy. That's an utterly massive amount of work to be doing with a (relatively) small team, and you're assuming there will never be unexpected issues that crop up along the way. Games much less ambitious with much larger teams and budgets frequently take 3-4 years to get out the door: If anything I'd say the 2016 estimate is rather generous.
C2B Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 (edited) ? No, it won't be 2016 and that date is far from generous, it's insane. J.E. Sawyer also has Icewind Dale 2 and Fallout: New Vegas in his backpocket regarding managing skills. He's the last person (and not just at Obsidian, probably in the entire gaming kickstarter section) I would expect to go that far of the wagon. Edited July 22, 2013 by C2B
