molarBear Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) "the bruise will look nice, and maybe the scars will make nice party talk.""drug dealer was critically hit in the right leg for 25 hit points, smashing the knee into the next town." "metzger was critically hit in the head for 27 hit points. the attack crushes the temple. good night, gracie." "slaver was critically hit in the right leg for 22 hit points, knocking him to the ground like a bowling pin in a league game." "mole rat was critically hit in the head for 24 hit points, squashing the rodent's skull like a wet paper bag." don't we all like 'em? oh, also from wasteland : "COVENANT brutally pummels the Wasteland Warrior for 33 points of damage, exploding him like a blood sausage." Oner Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Oh yes, yes! Just try and keep it in-universe. Giveaway list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DgyQFpOJvyNASt8A12ipyV_iwpLXg_yltGG5mffvSwo/edit?usp=sharing What is glass but tortured sand?Never forget! '12.01.13.
DocDoomII Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I'd really like if they actually influenced the fight. Like breaking the wrist of the arm of your enemy would decrease his ability in swinging his sword or prevent it altogether. Do you think Pillars of Eternity doesn't have enough Portraits? LordCrash Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 If you can turn it off why not. But please don't make messages like that obligatory!
cyberarmy Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Of course yay! There will be dwarves included, as cliche as it is no dwarf should be staying silent in a battle. Ever! Unless they are thieves or monks Nothing is true, everything is permited.
molarBear Posted October 2, 2012 Author Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) Oh yes, yes! Just try and keep it in-universe. of course. i mean they can't use the word blood sausage™ even if they wanted to how 'bout this taunt: Quog'ralin was hit for a massive 35 pts of damage. Your karach blade slices off the abishai's arm clean. Maybe you should pick it up and bludgeon some sense into that thick baatezu's cranium. sh*t like this...and change the planescape cant with the eternity's. Troller Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I liked it how you shot someone in their eyes and they complained about it "ARGH my eyes"
Rabain Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 of course. i mean they can't use the word blood sausage™ even if they wanted to Blood sausage is just a type of food, zero chance anyone has that copyrighted. Anyone can use it in any way they want. "slaver was critically hit in the stomach for 22 hit points, his guts spilling out like blood sausage all over the floor."
timobkg Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Not sure how combat messages are supposed to work in a real time game where you're not reading every line of combat text to see what happened.
Skie Nightfall Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) If they will be text only like Fallout, and with an option to to toggle them like Fallout, then yes. Problem: Real time combat... BTW! You're examples aren't combat taunts at all, they're just pip-boy descriptions o.o Edited October 2, 2012 by Skie Nightfall ✔ Certified Bat Food
Tale Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I'm still stuck on combat logs being data driven. I want to see the attack rolls vs. the defense. I want to see the attack value with modifiers that results in damage. But you can't do all of these numbers this way. Or, you can, but I don't think it's a good idea. I fear it would produce a very uneven tone from the log. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

Vampero Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Sounds great to me ! @vampero G+ http://gplus.to/CGMorin
Aedelric Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Combat taunts? Definitely! "I'll beat thee, but I should infect my hands."
molarBear Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 also if we have speaking items they should taunt too! (floating text) "if everyone is dead then why don't i remember dying?" —a clueless sod to a dustman "if we're all alive then why don't i remember being born?" —the dustman's response
Radres Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Yes and head over texts like Fallout would be great. I still chuckle when i remember a Mutie calling "badass moving in" and firing his minigun!
