Karranthain Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 (...)We are inspired by the art direction and level design of the IWD series, but Project Eternity will have a much deeper narrative experience.(...) source : http://forums.obsidi...40#entry1231523 In which case Justin Sweet makes perfect sense
Emeraude Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I've had a terrible, terrible idea. I'm an awful person. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Obsidian did say they were going to allow the use of custom portraits ? Time to make a Kickstarter to commission Justin Sweet around 44 (4 per classes) pieces of Art for personal use with the Adventurer's Hall.
Shevek Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I like Sweet but whoever did that last wallpaper is pretty darned good in my book. I would like to see where that guy takes us.

He was already mentioned in this thread regarding the PE wallpaper (check these last 2 pages). http://www.kieranyanner.com/ PoE: Cast your vote on: Stretch Goals | Game Maturity | Party Creation | Level Scaling | World Map Interface | Magic System | Replayability and Choices | Quest Solving | Romances | Multiplayer | Art StyleProduction Beard at 4 million? Umberlin Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 (edited) I'd hate to have to decide the visual identity of a game via art style . . . there are so many great artists out there: And so many more out there besides the few I can post here, all with touches large and small worthy of respect and use. Way too hard for someone like me to decide. I'd want to use them all and smash them all together. It would be a disaster. Edited October 10, 2012 by Umberlin "Step away! She has brought truth and you condemn it? The arrogance! You will not harm her, you will not harm her ever again!"
Karranthain Posted October 10, 2012 Author Posted October 10, 2012 This thread definitely needs more Justin Sweet :

I don't particularly like these images (the first one has a cheesy huge sword dual wield, and the second one is not fantasy-esque), but I do enjoy the style. Can you tell me the source for them? IchigoRXC Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I love that first image with the dual wielding. The composition, the style, the use of colours. Literally everything about it I love. Do you have a source/artist for the fantastic dual wielder? Loranc Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Found a youtube link to some artwork from justin sweet. Check it out. Obsidian @Obsidian Current PayPal status: $140,000. 2,200 backers "Hmm so last Paypal information was 140,000 putting us at 4,126,929. We did well over and beyond 4 million, and still have an old backer number from Paypal. 76,186 backers. It's very possible that we have over 75,000 backers if I had new Paypal information. Which means we may have 15 Mega dungeon levels, and we already are going to have an amazing game + cats (I swear I will go stir crazy if Adam doesn't own up to the cats thing )." Switching to Paypal means that more of your money will go towards Project Eternity. (The more you know.) Paypal charges .30 cents per transaction and 2.2% for anything over 100,000 per month for U.S currency. Other currency is different, ranging from anywhere between 2.2-4.9%. Kick Starter is a fixed 5% charge at the end.
Aedelric Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Obsidian have many great artists that can do the job very well Dwarven ranger is a fine example, but Justin's artwork really does speak for itself. Does anyone know if he even wants to be involved?
Emeraude Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Can you tell me the source for them? Second one is from Shinobu Tanno, first one looks like it could be from Maciej Kuciara.
Karranthain Posted October 10, 2012 Author Posted October 10, 2012 Does anyone know if he even wants to be involved? Your guess is as good as mine. But I don't see why he wouldn't want to be - I think he joined the IWD2 team on a short notice.

Does anyone know if he even wants to be involved? If Obsidian offers him a fair contract, I don't see why he wouldn't be interested. Exile in Torment
Jojobobo Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I for one would like to see him do the portrait artwork, it was great in IDW2 and just looking at the MtG cards he's illustrated (found here: http://mtg.neoseeker.com/wiki/Category:Justin_Sweet) you can see how truly talented he is.

hideo kuze Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 That one looks amazing. It would be great if Sweet at least did the backgrounds for the narration slides. *sigh* PoE: Cast your vote on: Stretch Goals | Game Maturity | Party Creation | Level Scaling | World Map Interface | Magic System | Replayability and Choices | Quest Solving | Romances | Multiplayer | Art StyleProduction Beard at 4 million? Karranthain Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 Yeah, I suppose this won't happen after all. Though who knows? Sweet might be hired later on, after the Kickstarter is over. But hey, we got an amazing screenshot!
hideo kuze Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 True. I wonder what Justin has been up to in these last years. His site has been unaccessible since yesterday. Karranthain Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 True. I wonder what Justin has been up to in these last years. His site has been unaccessible since yesterday. He'll announce his involvement in the PE soon! I WANT TO BELIEVE!
Michael_Galt Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Yes. This is a VERY low priority for me, but it would be nice icing on the cake... I would be willing to donate separately for that. "1 is 1"
infernofrost Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 This was in the back of my head, when I saw the first concept art I was a little dissapointed, not becaus it's bad, but because Justin Sweets was soooo good in the IWD games! I'd fund this seperately as well!
Karranthain Posted October 12, 2012 Author Posted October 12, 2012 As unlikely as it is now, I still think it'd be a good stretch goal to have - it'd bridge the gap between the Stronghold and the second Big City. I particularly would've loved it if they reached that second goal - and I think announcing Sweet's involvement would definitely help to bring more pledges.
Sensuki Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 I don't think they'll be getting an external portrait artist now. I'm pretty sure they'll use one of the people currently in their employ.
