Calax Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 US won't invade Austria since it doesn't go in accordance with the McDonald's doctrine. It does with Disney, and disney has more clout than mcD's (trust me) Cholesterol kills more people than Donal Duck. Killed? Maybe, Ruined? AWWW HEELLLLLL NAAAWWWW Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
Gfted1 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Our stuff? You mean the US is gonna invade Austria soon? Cool. Unless you think invading random European country is the same thing as invading an medieval place like Afghanistan. It's not gonna be such an easy cakewalk as Iraq or Afghanistan, though. Good luck. Austria? I thought you were from Australia. You guys just got electricity and running water. And your military? Seriously? Did you see what you typed there? I don't know, really... I don't see how the US has been taking anything from anyone by war lately. More like, you're wasting tons of money and making yourselves look like morons to the international community. Exactly, and thats just cause youve made us mad. Imagine when we need your sweet sweet natural resources. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Hildegard Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Hey, it wouldn't be the first time US troops marched into Austria But they didn't have McDonald's back then, therefor they are perfectly safe now. It does with Disney, and disney has more clout than mcD's (trust me) With Disney? Don't know about that doctrine, what's it about?

I will admit to a bit of poking you with a stick but I fail to see anything to discuss in your post. The Austrian military has no navy (obviously), ~30 planes in its "air force" and an active army of 17 year old conscripts smaller than one US division of highly trained professional soldiiers. Whats there to talk about? "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"

Cause rapid consumption/spending within the nation, and have a monopoly on entertainment, while also utilizing emminent domain to provide for "government" expansion (literally). Guard Dog Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Ah he's done. Don't wast any more of your angst on him. You know, I really am surprised you non US folks follow US politics so closely. I watch the politcal battles in other countries too, Canada, Mexico, and the UK in particular but I don't maintain near the degree of interest you guys do in ours. I just find that very curious, if you don't get a vote why do you care? I mean seriously this folks on this forum were 99% in the tank for Obama and after four years aside from the fact he has run up a staggaring amount of debt the US is really not that different. Foreign policy has changed very little from Bush, we have gotten involved in yet another war and appear to be prepping for a fourth since he's come into office. He's had very little effect on the world and US economy which are both actually worse for everyone since he came into office (not that it's his fault, it was happening anyway). The only real social change in the US since he's been in office was allowing gays to serve openly in the military which was inevitable anyway because the "gay stigma" is vanishing from the US culture. And that was also inevitable. I'll tell you a little secret, if Romney wins in November the US will only be slightly different in 2016. A little further right or a little further left but only by the smallest of degrees. A little better off or a little worse off who knows. So I'm genuinely curious, why do you non-US guys care so much about it? "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Morgoth Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 So I'm genuinely curious, why do you non-US guys care so much about it? Why not? We non-US people are interested what's going on on the globe. What is it you don't grasp about that, Guard Dog? Rain makes everything better.
Tigranes Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I live in the US now, so that's one reason. But I'm interested in how things are going with Cameron, Sarkozy, Merkel, Putin, the Chinese power transfer and the Japanese political swamp, since they are all pretty important positions for a lot of things in the world. And then there's the fact that you're often going to get more info about Obama et al than most of those folks, even in non-US English media. American (actually, global) voters/media seem to always overestimate the actual powers of a president, sure, but it's still an important part in the system. Finally, of course there's the fact that the American electoral system has something very disgusting and disturbing about it, which I really wish was not there. But I don't pretend to think it's reducible to something like 'American sensationalism / stupidity'. It does put me off paying a lot of close attention to it, though. Humodour Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 So I'm genuinely curious, why do you non-US guys care so much about it? Because when you guys **** up (which is often), you **** up the world around you. That's just what you do. That's why us non-US guys have to take an interest in which **** you're going to elect this time.

Gorth Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 So I'm genuinely curious, why do you non-US guys care so much about it? It's better than most of the other reality shows that gets exported overseas? Realistically though, as the world gets more integrated and economies more interwoven, the repercussions of the actions of one of the larger economies will invariably be of interest to those it affects, eligible for voting or not. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Pretty much. Also, the US electoral system has an extravagant entertainment value that can't be found anywhere else in the world. Meshugger Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Let's change the subject somewhat, who will be Romney's running mate? Any bets? Hurlshort Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 Let's change the subject somewhat, who will be Romney's running mate? Any bets? For awhile I was thinking Herman Cain would be a good fit, but the way he exited the campaign makes me think he isn't an option. I hope he doesn't pick Santorum, and I doubt Santorum would accept anyways. Gingrich is also probably not an option, although I personally wouldn't mind. Ron Paul is probably not an option either. So that leaves someone less well known, I suppose. Pretty hard to predict, I just hope it isn't another Palin type character.
