Witcher 2 Again

Recommended Posts

I think they happen partly-random based on what you do in combat? I've heard them a few times as well, but not very often.

Heh, heard it there the first time as well (or I've noticed it there the first time).

Tested out the new hair styles. They are all pretty good looking, imo, but I am still sticking with his default rivian ponytail style. I've liked that one since the first time I saw it, unlike the no-ponytail style Geralt got in Witcher 1 (though, even this one looks pretty good in W2).

Witcher 2 patch 1.2 arrives tomorrow

New haircuts

It's nice to see them giving away free stuff though, even if it's tat.

*edit* They released the changelog early, faster menus, auto compressed savegames and, erm, all islamic textures removed or replaced?

Since I haven't played the game yet, I'm guessing that this perhaps&maybe are persian carpets? If it it, then they shouldn't have deleted or replaced them as the persian carpet tradition(s) predates the islamic traditions...

And why wouldn't a brothel a have nice persian carpet? I clearly remember a carpet in a brothel in BG1 that looked like or were similar to a persian carpet...

And what is an islamic themed rug or carpet anyway? Is is the pattern in the carpet that decided whether or not this is so?

No, they were actually prayer rugs with Islamic motifs. They had some in brothels, noticed that and removed them/replaced them. It was pretty distasteful overall, but I don't think anyone raged about it, nor I think people should rage about censorship. It wasn't an artistic choice, they simply threw something they found on Google and noticed later.

Of course nobody noticed, who the hell goes into a brothel to look at carpets? ...Nevermind that

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Started up a new game and noticed a few new items that also came with the patch. Also the Mahakman Rune Sihil (best sword in TW1) also imported correctly.

Gonna play a bit more ruthlessly this time and side with the Sociatel.

This is the best news about the patch I've heard.

Rare armour & weapons is one of the things I miss in TW2.

Legendary items like Aerondight, Rune sihil, Moonblade & Raven's armour are barely better than the items you start with if you don't import a save. A generic Temerian sword you can buy in Flotsam is probably already better than the Rune sihil.

It messes up the lore and setting, and makes it painfully clear that the game is nothing more than a glorified action game. Want more damage? -> buy bigger sword!

The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

Like any other game. :>

Players shouldn't have been able to import the items and problem would be solved.

Or import the equipment but loosing it at the end of the prologue. There is even a good reason for that story wise.

That stuff appears but only in the final chapter.

I don't know what you are talking about I've never have crafted or bought a sword. Armor on the other hand...

:ermm: The uber equipment from TW1 is only scaled down because if you could import them in their full glory the entire game would be retarded. The only other solution was to not allow importing them at all (which I'd have been fine with, but I can see a lot of people complaining about that, too). Otherwise, it's certainly more robust a loot system than TW1, and more rare and expensive stuff to craft near endgame.

My complaint would be that they're not differentiated enough - often the difference between, say, Temerian Jackboots and Nilfgaardian are 1% bleeding resistance or something - so the progression becomes quite linear. With the 4 different types of meteorite steel swords, again, one is clearly better than the others. It would have been nice to have item attributes change Geralt more drastically. TW2 is certainly better than 1 but looting is still not a strong point.

I was quite happy about it, because it reminds me of the Gothic games, where the item progression runs in a similar kind of way. I like this more than the diablo-way, where items with random stats are dropped all the time.

I'd agree, but I'll be more open and say that I wish they had either gone a more linear path, with you getting one or two swords during quests in each act, each a significant upgrade, rather than getting a billion swords that are itty bitty upgrades, or a more open path along the lines of Diablo, but instead of random stats, you had more focused stats on different styles of play.

You need the save to be in the right place (..\My Documents\The Witcher\saves) and it also has to be from the 'right' place, ie not any old save will do it has to come from- so far as I am aware, based on having 2 eligible saves from each of my Witcher playthroughs- directly before or after the final fight.

Of the import items Aerondight at least is pretty useful thanks to the three upgrade slots. I used it well into Chapter 2. The nerfs were clearly carried out for gameplay reasons, much as you end up with Epic Gnolls/ Random Goon who just happens to be Armed With +3 Stuff in Throne of Bhaal or NWN2. The one thing I found really silly was getting a Raven's Armour schematic as a reward when the first game makes it clear that it is a unique item requiring unique parts and assembly technique.

Funny that they nerfed the prologue in the new patch, I replayed it the other day and having died a lot on normal first time went through on hard without getting hit at all, except by archers.

That's the thing Zor, I've got it in the proper spot...

Hmm, maybe I'll play an hour of Witcher one just to generate a save and put the old one there.
